UHS 40-0. End 3rd. East Tech dressed about 15 players. UHS not contesting punts and the 3Q clock started at 8:00. Tech probably will end up with negative yardage.

sounds like it could have been 100-0..how can a team field only 15 kids? and why are the Irish playing a team like this?

It wasn't by choice it was either play this game or have a bye, East Tech plays Jonathan Alder next week and I would assume it's wasn't by choice for them either to schedule this game.

The Cleveland City Schools are in a tough position. Glenville draws what is basically the cream of the crop. The kids that are left are there truely for the love of the game and to have something to keep them off the street. A few years ago I happen to be at the field where Collinwood was holding summer practice. The kids came with change of clothes in a grocery bag, barely had the equipment to participate. Not too many'athletic looking' players, either. Yet they were working as hard as they could and sweating as much as any team in any league.

These early games are usually the 'money makers' for the entire year. It's a shame but this team with approx 15 players has to play for their school's financial life. The payouts from playing UHS, Alder and the others fund what limited sports programs they have.

Congrats to UHS on an awesome display of football...and congrats to East Tech for showing another side of what HS football is about.

Ursuline showed VERY little last night, but I love the younger kids coming up in the future. The QB, Durkin, who is a freshmen will be a star at Ursuline and if he develops like he could, he may be a Division 1 QB in 4 years.

My main concern is at RB. Over the past 5-7 years we had the luxury of having Yarab, Mason, and Jones. Now we look weak back there. Teague is very good, but he is what college recruiters would call an "Athlete" on the field due to his size and speed. We need to develop a RB if we want to maintain our dominant standing in Ohio football.

The East Tech team showed a tremendous amount of spirit. With very little experience, the QB was running keepers into a wall of defenders up until the last minute, and they basically didn't get to leave the field. Given the reality of the situation, I thought it was handled well -- Ursuline wasn't overly condescending (aside from not rushing punts, plays were pretty fairly contested).

VT -- I don't know that I agree with your assessment of RB. Teague was impressive against Coldwater - granted being the second threat after Jones is perhaps easier than having a target on your back, but as a D5 team, Jones was a once in a decade player, don't you think? This is going to make some of the schedule rough, but that's the row we hoe. Teague is still an amazing threat for most of the schedule we will face in the regular season or potential post. And even allowing for the skill of the defenders, that TD run by Thigpen was pretty solid.

I am not trying to bash Teague, cause he is a hell of a player and could end up bigger than Jones, considering Teague has MAC offers in addition to an offer to YSU. However I see him better at WR than RB, but that is just me. There are some young players that looked good at RB last night too..

Remember this: Jones did not get his shot to start until Mason went down prior to the Massillon game in 2007. From there on out, Jones owned the position.

GO IRISH!
