How do they "score" 7 on 7 scrimmages? I keep seeing how Kenton wins them all the time.

Different format for different contest. Some award points for 1st downs, where the ball is caught, turnovers, etc... other simply go by td's and conversions.

In the end...does it really matter???

It's basically backyard football with helmets. Doesn't mean much either way

^^ This. It's different depending on the event/format.

The biggest 7-on-7 our school attended this year awarded points as follows:
6 points for a touchdown
1pt PAT if successful from 5 yard line
2pt PAT if successful from 10 yard line (offense got to choose)
2 points for an interception

They need to just add another scrimmage this is not football.I guess it helps a little but its easy to throw and catch when you know your not going to get hit.

i was just curious some some people seem so darn excited that Kenton is "winning" all these "competitions". I didn't remember anyone ever talking about winning OR losing them. I thought it was just a practice.

Besides, i'm a Mooney fan. We're still contemplating the forward pass.

kenton plays basketball on turf.they should make a rule that you can only pass the ball 4 times a game.the spread has really diminished the game in my opinion. lets line up and see who is tougher, thats the old school mentality.

7 on 7's mean nothing. Great for timing and such but absolutely means nothing come the regular season.

The scoring etc. are similar at most of the 7 on 7's, with some local variations. It's basically just a way to keep the interest up and maybe work on some timing.

18. Scoring:
- Touchdown - 6 points
- Interception - 3 points (no points for INT on PAT)
- Turnover on downs - 2 points
- PAT - 1 point (may opt for 2 in OT)

19. Penalties:
- Defense pass interference = Automatic first down and 5 yards from
original line of scrimmage.
- Offense pass interference = Previous spot and loss of down.
- Defensive holding = Automatic first down and 5 yards from original line of scrimmage.
- Illegal procedure (offense) = Loss of down.
- Defensive off-sides = 5 yard penalty.
- Delay of game = Loss of down and clock stops in final 2:00.
- Fighting / unsportsmanlike conduct (INDIVIDUAL PLAYER): 1st
offense = ejection from game. 2nd offense = ejection from
tournament.
- Fighting / unsportsmanlike conduct (TEAM): if any player
leaves the sideline to participate in an on-field fight, the
ENTIRE TEAM WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE TOURNAMENT.
- Personal Foul: Offense = loss of down and 5 yards from original line
of scrimmage. Defense = 1st down and 5 yards from original line of
scrimmage.

In the event there is defensive holding and a sack on the same play, the defense will be penalized according to the above and the sack will be ignored.

I don't THINK so!!!! Play the game as your personnel allows it, and for teams like Kenton, Coldwater, and a host of others, that means throwing the ball a lot more than running it.

7 on 7's are great for competition in the summer....

Understanding who can do what is a benefit from 7on7...run good routes, catch, accuracy, play man to man or zone

The other benefit is learning the passing scheme and getting reps, which in a lot of today's schemes this is priority

I don't think offensive timing is improved a great deal due to ... no pressure, defense bails at the snap, play action is useless, and if they choose not to use a center

Who wins or loses means absolutely nothing...I have seen team get so hyped from this only to fail during the season...

It is a glorified practice , some teams run 10 play from same spot,,,some have 8 guys on defense. They are all different

Really good points Goose. People get so excited about a 7 on 7 result when they have no bearing on how you will perform in the regular season. I have seen teams never lose a 7v7 and then go 0-10 during the regular season.

I agree the 7 on 7'S mean absolutley nothing; I saw Logan Elm at one of these scrimmages last year and they were just terrible; when the regular season started they only won about 12 in a row.
