Default OVR Teams that have qualified - 03-29-2010, 05:41 PM

Congrats to Blackswamp 15 for qualifying in 15 National at NEQ. I think this is the first and only OVR team to qualify so far.

Thumbs up Congrats! - 03-29-2010, 06:33 PM

Congrats Blackswamp 15's! That is extra special to earn a National bid at a Qualifier, hopefully that gets the ball rolling for more OVR teams to punch their tickets to Reno at NEQ, Big South and then figure out the rest of the OVR representatives at the Regional Bid tournament.

Nice job on winning the OVR Power League a few weeks back and using that as tune up to earn this bid!

Now, enough congratulations to all of you down in Tiffin, Findlay and surrounding town girls there at The Swamp, time to get the Big City Toledo girls fired up to meet up with you in Nevada!

Huge congratulations to Black Swamp! I think this is one of the first National qualifiers Black Swamp has won outright. It is amazing to see how Black Swamp is really being recognized now beyond the regional level with the success at National Championships and large representation during the past few years.

Good luck to all the OVR teams still in contention for bids at these tournaments. Especially the 16's, get the bids now so the teams that did not have a "Good" Friday can have a little easier path in a couple of weeks down in Columbus!

From Big South...

Congratulations to m.52 Navy for winning 15 Club at Big South and picking up the bid!

Also, ECJ 15 Elite finished 3rd in 15 Open, earning an Open Bid.

In Baltimore...

CVA 17 National earns a bid by winning the club division, finishing a perfect 10-0.

Congratulations to Mintonette M.52 and Kaepa Eastside Cleveland Juniors for your sucess in Atlanta. It looks like the OVR will have a lot of representation in Reno at the 15's level.
Good luck to everyone else in Columbus @ the OVR National Bid Qualifier on April 17 and 18.

Why are these good teams playing in qualifiers to earn a National or American Bid? I would thought that if you are or you consider yourself an OPEN team you try to make it thru the Open route and let your Regional Bid Tournament be the event to cover if you did not make it the Open route.

Very dissapointed with these teams that are lowering their standards.

amen wisdom...somewhere along the line it became about winning to make the club look good rather than playing against the best to get better!

But what if you have a bad day at the Regional Bid Tournament? Everyone wants to get a bid. It would be worse to be stuck at home than to earn an American or National bid.

There are other tournaments you can go to (namely AAU's) and get better competition than the National division by playing Open at AAUs.

So you prefer to say I went to Nationals playing National or American vs saying I played at Nationals in the Open division. Don't take me wrong....there are some very good teams in both divisions, but why pay the money to player at in general lower level.

I would prefer to be stuck at home after playing against the best vs saying I went but at a lower level. To me it is a false indication of your success in the club season. If I'm calling myself a National Open team then I try to play against and qualify Open. If I'm not that good, then I make it via the National or American route.

Not every team should be playing in the open division at Nationals or Qualifiers. There is no shame in playing in the club divsion and an honor for any team that makes it far enough to qualify.

After tryouts and judging by previous club seasons, you should have a general idea on how your team stacks up. Qualifiers only give out a couple bids per so it is really hard to get a bid, but if you know you're very good, enter into the Open division. If you don't get a bid, you will likely get one at the BID tourney. Especially in the OVR where each age group usually gets a hand full of bids and a trickle down or two.

Volleyextra,
nobody saying it is a shame.....but if you are considering yourself as an Open team why not play them? If you don't make it that is why you have the Bid tournament in your region. Specially when the OVR due to its size gets so many bids. I will question the honor word due to the water down that the USAV national event has become.

Wisdome -- The USAV/JVA split is what it is - the players have no control over it. But I really find your remarks offensive to all of the players and coaches out there who are working their tails off to accomplish something. Our club could do the JVA route but have chosen the USAV route instead and we are very honored and excited when any of our teams qualify for nationals either through a qualifier or the bid tournament. Whichever path you chose it still takes hard work and dedication and a bid is not just handed to you - you have to work for it -- and isn't that what life is all about?

So "congratulations" to all of the teams that have qualified so far and "good luck" to everyone at the Bid Tournament this weekend in Columbus. I hope all of your hard work and dedication pays off!!
