I'm not sure how to act my age. I've never been this age before.

Only six days until HS football kicks off. Hope the team or teams you cheer for are doing well or at least showing improvement, because the fun is about to begin.

Same here, 19AL63.
And, if your team(s) aren't doing well, hopefully the players are both having fun (a little, anyway) and developing into responsible young men.

When I was a senior, our new head coach told us he would never tell us we had to win. What he said was, he wanted us to have fun and if we thought losing was fun he did not need us on the team. End of subject.

Good sentiments. Our society is so gearded upon winning on the scoreboard. A successful program isn't just based on points vs. the other team.
In almost every game I've ever been to in my life, one team wins, the other loses. In any standings you look at, one or two teams win most or all of their games, some are .500 and some win just a few or even some, none.
I've often told people, it's not winning or losing, it's WANTING to win. Some programs you see will just go through the motions, accepting defeat. Many kids (and parents) will not even be part of a program that isn't successful. That's so wrong.
Everyone can be a good winner, doesn't take much work. But everyone should have to go through losing at some point. It builds character. Some of the worst losers out there are teams that are very successful. They have a distorted view of the world. Yes, I believe you can work hard to make yourself succesful, but there is always someone out there better.
Best of luck to all out there, have a succesful season!

Does anyone know if Drew Pasteur is going to do his game predictions again this year?

Sound like some schools are not stating the year out very good. Avon High School suspended 10 players for the first 2 games for drinking. Heard 5 Steubenville players are being investigated for possible rape. Not the way to start a football season.

My wife and I have never been without at least one dog and or a cat for our entire 46 years together. Every time we lose one it's like losing one of our kids.
Both of us extend our heartfelt sympathy to you and yours Libbey.
We really know what it means to lose such a good friend and faithful companion.

Five years ago our sweetheart, Right-Wing Annie, a champion black and tan standard dachshund, died at the age of 10 years. About a week later a very young black-mouth cur adopted us while we were at the fairgrounds. Our male dachshund, a champion black and tan standard, Cracker Jack, taught Skipper all there was to know about being a dog. Two years ago Jack died. He was 10 like his half sister. Skipper went into a noticeable depression. After a month of this we went to the pound looking for a dog that was a victim of foreclosure. We came home with a beautiful German short-haired pointer. Magnus was only a year old at the time. A "high energy" pup to say the least. Though it has been so long since Jack and Annie left us, we still think of them quite often. It is most difficult when we work at the Marion Kennel Club annual dog show. Many of the dachshunds shown are related to Jack or Annie.
Your post brought tears to my eyes and I extend our condolences to you.

Every year I wait 37 weeks for this to begin, Now it is here and in 15 short weeks it will all be over. High school football is the best. Even without a favorite hometeam, I think watching Ohio football is the best. Good Luck to all teams as the season starts.

10 months ago we lost our beloved border collie (well, sort of) Lady. She was the most well-tempered, loving dog anyone could want. We still miss her.
We share your grief, libbey1963. If you can, give thanks for all the years that you were able to spend with Little Joe.
