Was able to sneak in for 3.15 yesterday near the Port Columbus hotels. Whew! Now I can buy meat to put on the grill today.

$3.25 in the great Ohio NW today. It seems that the gas price increase for one National Holiday appears to be the result of typical greed on the part of oil companies who know that a lot of people will be traveling. Our gas went instantly from around $3.13 immediately to @3.49-@3.39 and the very next day back down. I don't think that this was some Middle Eastern plot. I think it was good old American greed and avarice. Profit is not a dirty word to oil companies.

I love it. As a stockholder of one of the major oil companies, I applaud their application of the basic concepts of capitalism.

Going up, saw 3.39 to as high as 3.59 to day in the Dayton area.

Nor should it be. Why is it not greed on the part of the consumer to feel entitled to cheap gasoline?

What I object to is not that oil companies make profits, but they always report record profits when a barrel of oil is at it's highest. Couldn't they do that when prices are down and it is not hurting my back pocket so hard?

You're still alive?? I was sure I saw John McClain shoot you as you fell from the top of the Nakatomi Plaza.

Yeah, I saw 3.58 yesterday on I-270 and Alum Creek Dr. Not bad, a 20% jump over 3 or 4 days.

I would agree that profit certainly should not be a dirty word, but when prices go up almost 50 cents in one day, that isn't profit. That is gouging. In the loan shark business, it would be called usury. Highway robbery may be another good title for it. Stealing also comes to mind. I can see no explanation other than they missed their huge profits from the day before so they unilaterally decided to begin shafting the American people again.

The consumer needs to employ discipline. When the prices go from $3.59 to $3.12,continue to boycott or buy minimal amounts.Buying power is a two-edged sword.Producers know it and so did the public years ago.

What is the "right" amount that it should go up? If $0.50 is too much, what is the right number to allow them to recoup their higher costs?

Because no matter what they do we seem to still just keep buying. I know some of what we buy is necessary, but some how we must reduce how much we buy.

You are absolutely correct, 19AL63. I guess the only answer then is to keep buying the gas to get us to work and stop buying the gas that used to get us to fun.
