Seems strange that OHSAA doesn't rotate regions. O-G played Portsmouth out of Ironton's region in 2012.

I like Ottawa-Glandorf by 12. Oak Hills was 9-15 against a schedule that I'm not sure of including a number of Kentucky teams and Ironton beat Oak Hills by 17. It seems that Bloom-Carroll is a better team than Ironton.
...and I may be totally off base...just a feeling I have.

This will be a showdown, hard nosed basketball on both sides in this one. Ironton is rich in tourney history and Ottawa-Glandorf is incredible on defense. This game ought to be a battle to the final buzzer.

You must be thinking of the wrong Oak Hill lol........
Oak Hill was AP #10 and finished the season 22-5 and they did not play any out of State teams.

This will be one of the best games of the tournament. Im really excited to see this one. Ironton is one of the scrappiest teams in all of Ohio, bug OG returns players from last year's tourney team. It's going to be a blood bath, but I'm going to take ironton, but I think this game WILL come down to the final shot.

I stand corrected, fightingtigers. I will have to revise my prediction.

Ironton fighting tigers are hungry for 2more W's!!!
Hoping for a river rat run to the Schott & a return back to southern Ohio with some hardware!!!
Gotigersgo!!!!
Hang tough!
Good luck to all final 4 squads in all divisions.
Ironton has only lost to 2 teams in Florida during a classic tourney. Both were defending state champs here. They went 1-2 in the tourney. The 2 losses were to large schools, comparable to division 1 in Ohio. 4 & 5 k enrollment++!!

I don't know enough about O-G to even attempt an intelligent 'prediction' of the outcome. I do know that Ironton has only lost 2 games, both to schools in FL (I believe) larger than any in Ohio... and 1 was the defending 8A (largest classification) state champion.
Ironton's closest margin of victory was 2 pts in the 2nd game of the season against Portsmouth. Of the team's 23 wins, only 3 have been by single digits:
Portsmouth - 2nd game of season; later won by 34
Cols. Eastmoor DII - 9pts. :lost to Cols. Bishop Hartley in Dist. semi's by 15
Akron Buchtel DII - 9pts. : lost to Cuy. Falls Christian Acad. in Dist. finals by 4

Ironton is an awesome team. Exceptionally well-coached. Big and strong. A Division I guard who is capable of scoring 40 points any night. Very fast. Their bench may be suspect. I know OG is one of the best teams in the state. So is Ironton. I'll take Ironton by 7 points.

Titan-ic Matchup -
03-18-2013, 04:42 PM
Big believer in the ole "step-ladder" effect..OG was a semi-finalist last yr & lost to Portsmouth (which btw was disappointing in the final vs Cincy SCD I believe). Having said that think the Titans find a way but I do respect Ironton & their schedule playing those FL teams. The better team will win..just sayin...

Ironton is a solid ballclub - without a doubt.
In looking over their record, schedule and team stats this will be probably one of the better semi-final games in all divisions.
I think however O-G has played a tougher overall schedule and the regional they played through was much better.
I like the Titans, their big game experience, and how they match-up with the Fighting Tigers. Titans in a close one !

i would agree that og played a tougher postseason so far. And I don't know a whole lot about their reg season opponets. I do know Ironton played the 3 florida schools , i heard one was defending big school champ, and all three were over 4 thousand students, and this was early in the season when football players were getting back to bball, along with columbus schools centennial and eastmoor who are generally good. akron buchtel, also traditionally good. Bell academy from dc, mcdonald from north carolina-supposedly the defending big school champ, ashland ky, traditionally strong, spring valley and huntington high are both d1 size i do believe. I get the feeling ironton can beat about anybody in ohio on a given night, but sometimes play down to their competition. Not a bball expert, just my opinion. should be good game

Why is it that the fans who support their team doesn't get as good seats as others that are just fans? I may not be a booster or a season ticket holder but I go to as many games as possible during the year, I'm jus curious as to why that is. And I'm curious to know if I can try to "upgrade" tickets at the arena? I heard that I could.

Ironton and Ottawa Glandorf feature two schools with winning traditions in multiple sports. Both teams have kids that are used to playing big games and being in the spotlight, so neither should be overwhelmed by the moment. Sizewise, these teams matchup almost hand-in-glove. O-G is maybe a tad taller, but Ironton is maybe a tad quicker. I look for a close and competitive affair between two excellent programs.
Here is a tale of the tape between these two heavyweights:
Ironton Ottawa-Glandorf
Record 23-2 24-3
Final AP Rank 3 4
CalPreps Divisional Rank 4 2
CalPreps State Rank 31 22
CalPreps National Rank 824 634
CalPreps Schedule Strength 9.1 12.0
Opponents Record 339-264 370-271
Opponents Winning Pct. .562 .577
Points Scored P/G 70 62
Points Allowed P/G 50 45
Record vs. Top 25 Teams 6-2 4-2
Prior Final 4’s 2 6
Records against Top 25 teams was compiled by looking at opponents ranked by CalPreps in the Top 25 of their respective states and/or divisions. Ironton has wins against Huntington (#9 in WV-AAA), Flora MacDonald Academy (#4 in NC-1A), Bell Academy (#16 in DC), Eastmoor Academy (#17 in OH-DII), Akron Buchtel (#21 in OH-DII), and Oak Hill (#20 in OH-DIII). Its losses were against Hialeah Gardens (#7 in FL-8A), and Coral Reef (#23 in FL-8A).
Ottawa Glandorf has wins against Lima Bath (#6 in OH-DII), Lima Central Catholic (#5 in OH-DIII), Bloom-Carroll (#7 in OH-DIII), and Leipsic (#6 in OH-DIV). Its losses were against Lima Central Catholic (#5 in OH-DIII) and Elida (#12 in OH-DII).
I know some folks don’t care much for CalPreps, but its system has been quite accurate in predicting Ironton outcomes all season. For example, CalPreps predicted an Ironton win over Oak Hill by 65-47 (actual 66-49). Similarly, it predicted Ottawa-Glandorf to down Bloom-Carroll 57-54 (actual 60-56). Interestingly, though CalPreps ranks Ottawa-Glandorf ahead of Ironton, its system projects Ironton to prevail over O-G on a neutral floor by 57-56.
That said, O-G just survived a very tough regional up at Bowling Green, and has played in more closely contested games this season than Ironton. That may give the Titans a slight edge if this game comes down to the final minutes. Plus, O-G shot 33 free throws to just 4 for Bloom Carroll in the regional final by pounding the ball inside, so foul trouble could become an issue in the outcome. When given the opportunity, Ironton has been a very solid free throw shooting team this season, with Carter sinking 16-18 in two regional games.
Take some Pepto-Bismol with you to The Schott on Thursday morning for this anticipated stomach churner.
