I suppose it depends on what ball you purchase.

I am spoiled. I like (an am generally able) to practice with 100 or so volleyballs. We built this stock gradually, ordering about 25 volleyballs per year over the course of 4 years. A good ball will last about 4 years if you take care of it (ie: keep PE classes away from it!). So now each year when our new balls come in, we look through the old balls, pull out the 25 most beat-up, and donate them to an organization that can use them.

I realize that 100 volleyballs isn't possible for everyone for various reasons. I think you can also make do with 30 or so, but you'll spend more of your practice time rounding up volleyballs.

We use a 3-ball system for game balls, so I generally order 3 each year. After the season, those game balls become part of our practice stock. I prefer Molton soft-touch, but that's just me.

For what it is worth, the Molten Super Touch is superior to the Molten Soft Touch. The difference here is the cover material which increases the longevity of the ball. If you can shell out a few more dollars per ball, the Super Touch is your best bet; and it is the official OHSAA State Tournament ball.

We buy about 10-20 balls each year and pass the worn out balls to the 5-8th grade programs to practice with. Also, if you go to the JO regionals in Columbus you can purchase the balls used on that day (only slightly used) for a reduced price and these are great balls that can be used each year for practice balls.

Molten are the choice for game balls.
