Welcome aboard. I come from a small town background myself, so I appreciate the DIV through DVI teams and, frankly, am often envious of the community spirit those places have around the Boys of Fall and Friday Nights. Much of that is lost in the city and suburbs. And, unfortunately, this board is heavily focused on the DI and DII schools, so the smaller guys (and gals) have a hard time getting any oxygen on the Huddle at times. Hang in there and share with us what you can.

Back late last night from Findlay and busy with soccer this morning so this report is a little late...
The format for Davidson v. Findlay was 10 plays each on offense and then 2 quarters of timed game. Davidson with the ball first and scored in about 7 plays. The line blocked well, backs ran hard with the score coming on about 35 yard run by Jennings. Mixed the pass in as well (6 runs, 4 passes). Only play not positive was a tipped pass. Next 10 plays Findlay would have had to punt if game situation but ended up with a long TD pass on the last play. Corner took bad route to the ball and missed and the receiver took it in. Nice catch and run.
The game situation was back and forth with HD winning 21 to 13. The Cats moved the ball at will all 4 possessions with all three RB's having their moments. Jennings, Waters, and Clark all looked really good. Also two long runs from QB Iske who was allowed to be hit this week. He showed a good burst and decision making. The only time that HD was stopped was on a drive that ended at about the 15 and a missed fg. Nice improvement from a week ago.
The defense had some good and some bad. Gave up two long drives on the first two possessions for Findlay, mostly through the air although one long run. Again, the d-line was freely subbed but the LB's, and DB's were pretty much starters. The Findlay QB was good and had some weapons to use so give them credit. The last two possessions the HD defense tightened and held them to two three and outs. I liked how they ended strong but still work to be done.

goob1dd-There were obvious differences that stood out to me between Liberty & Olentangy! Alverson played qb for MF against Liberty, he is a great in the slot & as a rb, but a qb...he is not! He's a chucker! Libertys db's reacted to pass plays in slow motion, they seem to never take a peek in the backfield after the receivers started their routes! It was amazing! Our 1st play on our 1st series was proof of that! Our center bowls the shotgun snap, it literally rolled 8 yards back to the qb, he finally picks it up & starts his journey to the endzone @ one time he was running behind a Liberty defender that was still chasing a wideout!!! WOW! Our next series we had the ball 5 plays & scored, this time it was a little more traditional 3 passes & 2 runs! I mentioned Alverson was the qb so every pass thrown down field looked like a loaf of bread! Liberty he's never broke on the ball, the would actually wait for the receiver to come back & catch the ball, then make the tackle! The db's also gave up 6-9 yard cushions on every play, even with help over the top! Enough about the db's because I could go on fir days, the Braves were much tougher @ that position! Libertys & the Braves d-line would be a push in my book, they both were very active & cause havoc! Liberty's lb's were ok & like their db's aren't sure tacklers nor good in coverage! I was disappointed in the play of Liberty's highly touted O-lineman(forget his name) he was matched up with Dillard & was no factor on defense! Over all the Braves have a much better defense! Liberty's offense takes way too long to get started! Their first 3 possessions net a total of 10 yard! Liberty had one of the biggest o-lines I have seen, and it is a testament to the saying bigger isn't always better! Liberty didn't pick up a 1st down until their 4th possession! Run blocking needs work, pass blocking was decent! Running backs ran very hard if they got a chance to make it out of the backfield! Libertys o-line blocked as though every run play was a screen play, O'le!!! Liberty's receivers weren't go getters! MF has to have one of the smallest defensive backfields in Ohio(other than D.Williams), but Liberty's receivers would not catch a pass over the middle, nor would they pull it in if they felt they were going to get hit! Libertys qb took a while to get warm, but was on target when he did! The receivers(including the huge TE) wouldn't catch the ball if they weren't wide open! A defense that comes out & hits Liberty in the mouth early will control them, some of Liberty's players might need to look in the mirror & determine if this is the sport for them! Im not trying be demeaning @ all, these are all children were having a discussion about & I wish a great & healthy season for all!

RDD-77: I had thought there was some talk about Alverson being suspended for the first 3 games? Was that just a bad rumor?

Steelergal78-
No kidding! That didn't even look like the same team. Both LU scores were in the first quarter, then Mifflin Defense played like they cared. Looked really good 2nd and 3rd qtrs. Offense never really did anything. LU looked really solid.
JV-4th qtr. 0-0

Central Crossing defeats Newark 21-14
Brief notes on Newark:
Had a decent passing game with moderate success on the ground but struggled to get what they needed in short yardage situations. Drives and big plays were destroyed by holding and personal foul penalties. I honestly lost count. Offense committed one turnover (INT). Defensively they struggled. Defensive line seemed weak and struggled to make tackles. Missed 2 FG's
Brief notes on CC:
Running more option than past years. Moved the ball very well. Much better blocking and more athleticism than past years as well. Scored on runs of 33 & 14 yards and a pass of 61 yards. Committed three turnovers (1 int, 2 fum). Defense struggled, especially in the passing game. Gave up 3 or 4 big pass plays. Newark faced a 3rd and 26 and hit a wide open receiver for a first down. Run defense is mediocre. Clamps down and has some success on 3rd or 4th and short. D-Line gets pressure to the QB but may over pursue or allow the QB to break out of the pocket.. Overall much improved from previous seasons.
JV CC 1 (pick 6) Newark 0

cc rider: great summary. Thanks. Would love to hear input from your neck of the woods throughout the season. We're normally radio silent for the SWC schools with the possible exception of Grove City.
Good luck this season and I hope the boys taste victory a few times this season.

I've noticed the silence as well. Usually it's caused by a lack of success. Even GC has lost it's prowess it once had back in the 90's. I will attempt to give input throughout the season. This season has the potential to be CC's best with 4-5 games that could definitely be won.

CC: Please don't let any lack of success on the field keep you from sharing insight and opinions. Some of the best Huddlers are those who aren't trying to convince everyone that their team invented football. And, in my experience, as long as one's opinions and insights are fair and honest, people won't attack you for supporting a team with a losing record.
Good luck to the Comets on Friday!

Crap........don't like reading this. Looks like HD will be strong again as Findlay is supposed to be very good this year. As a UA guy we are like 2-12 against HD since 2003 or at least it feels that way.

3-10 since 2002.
HD isn't going to fall off the map, but I still think they are going to take a step back because of youth and inexperience this year. Perhaps a bigger step than the small steps back each of the last two years. I think they'll roll this week as I believe GC is going the way of their SWCS brethren (one man's opinion, you don't have to like it, and I could certainly be wrong). With Darby week 2 and Coffman week 4 we'll find out about the Wildcats early.

As happy as I was to see the HD offense have success against Findlay, I kept thinking that this couldn't be the best team in region 2. The offense was good but they have a lot of work to do the defensive side of the ball. Granted it was a scrimmage and who knows what they were trying to work on but their DB's and LB's looked smallish and got run over multiple times by the HD RB's.

Eastmoor looked a whole lot better vs olentangy beating them 6 to 0. Hartley is for real and I think they will win the state in football. Eastmoor needs some work offensively, defesively tho, it will be hard to score on them.
