Ohio vs. Michigan border battle July 31st. Anybody been to one of these? Sounds like some good talent.

The title OGBR ought to answer that in large part. Tom J. and his staff are familiar with most of these girls through their skills camp, etc. In fact, the coaches who help with the skills camp evaluate a lot of the players attending it or recommend other players.

and many of those same coaches have playeres that happen to get selected. Same crowd most years (some good coaches, some not) that are in the OGBR club

The event went very well. I am hearing 267 college coaches were in attendance, which is the most of any event I have attended. Ohio's kids did a very solid job, and yes, the talent included most of Ohio's top players.

Congratulations to OGBR and MGBR for putting on another great event, and giving the girls an opportunity to be seen by so many coaches.

Correction on my previous post...here are the official final numbers:

257 coaches in attendance, the most ever an at OGBR event, previous high was 226 at the 2008 Top 64. This was the 9th OGBR event that exceeded 200 coaches.

Final score for the day:
Ohio- 40
Michigan- 20

Morning session (classes of 2013, 2016/17)- Ohio 23-7
Afternoon session (classes of 2014, 2015)- Ohio 17-13

Total number of kids- 237 Ohio, 209 Michigan. Ratio of about 1 coach per kid.

The thing is that any coach or AD can nominate players for OGBR events, such as the skills camp, Top 64, etc. It is through attending such events that OGBR staff (who co-hosts the border battle with MGBR) can evaluate potential players for that event.

Dabbelt Report
Are you the Marketing director for Tom and OGBR? Sounds like one of the Political commercials. We're all happy that a number of coaches attended to watch many fine players from Ohio & Michigan - who cares if it's the most coaches ever? That many coaches means that it was a great revenue-raiser for OGBR probably.

Incorrect Balllady, Sun & Fun is just pointing out the obvious,in that Dalbert Blogs and publishs a lot of OGBR info and events and promotes a lot of tom's favorite players. And every year it is a popular event among college coaches as it is the last day of the viewing period coaches can see players.

This event is jointly sponsored by OGBR and MGBR. If the people in charge of those programs didn't have the contacts with college coaches they did, the event would not exist and the players would not be getting seen. For years, Dabbelt has reported on and been supportive of all girls programs in SW Ohio. He doesn't just cover OGBR activities, but AAU programs throughout the area and state. You can ask almost any outstanding girl's basketball player in that area and throughout the state who (other than their own coach) has provided them the most opportunities for college exposure, and both Jenkins and Dabbelt will be among the top 3 or 4. Period. No "marketing director" needed. They just both love girls basketball.

sorry balllady, I have no player or daughter to promote. Just some realistic observations and comments after many years in the high school and college hoops business

3dogs, thanks for the "promotional" commentary. Many people love girls basketball, so ????

I'm just saying they give a lot of girls a lot of opportunities due to their love for the game, constant work, and contacts they've developed. They don't love it any more than me or you, but have been tireless in providing these opportunities. To me, that's not promotion on my behalf, it just realistic fact based on all I have seen them do.

The MGBR is reporting that Ohio teams won the morning and that Michigan won the afternoon sessions, is Dabbelt's report the official score?

Players are invited by the OGBR based on how they perform at their other events and based on feedback from their staff and other advisers. Hope this helps.

stevebusby...From people I've talked to who were there and the fact that dabbelt reported actual game totals, I would tend to trust his report more. The MGBR report says Ohio won the morning session in a "nip-and-tuck" competition. 23-7 doesn't sound nip-and-tuck to me. People who were there said Ohio also won the afternoon session, but it was closer, Sounds to me like the report from up north has gone south!

My daughters team Ohio #13 went 2 and 1 in the afternoon, and based on all the games I watched MGBR only won a hand full of games.
