You are right and he did it when he was Mass Govener. In fact it was done in line with the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act of 1994, more commonly known as the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which expired in 2004.

It points to certain weapons ONLY...not a ban of all guns. Could it be that he is "evolving"????

Hopefully this person is put away for life in solitary confinement. He's 24, so he's got about 50 years to think about it the pain that he's caused.

I'm much closer to a Republican than a Democrat so pardon me if I state I do not support the sale of ASSAULT rifles/weapons, either. As their name indicates these types of weapon are not manufactured for sport or self defense. Magazines which hold 100 rounds or so can go as well. As a matter of fact a clip which holds a dozen rounds should do. If people want to collect such things. they can collect the photographs or a nonfunctioning model.

Additionally, the mother's quote was takent totally out of context. She was identifying herself over the phone to the reporter by basically saying, "you have the right person." Meaning the person you were calling is the mother of James Holmes.
I would be much more interested in the psychological development of this person. Parents (married/divorced - any domestic violence), siblings, middle child, bullied, loner, IQ near or over the top, etc...
Batman may have little to do with anything. If a loon thinks he is being followed by the CIA doesn't mean the CIA is bad.

Drewline I agree with you. Gun sales in Ohio and hand gun permits are at a record high since Obama came in office, so you can take that for what it's worth. Most of the new owners and permits are women. Great article in yesterday's paper on this subject. I carry, but I agree you don't need a assault rifle to kill Bambi. So I guess I would agree with Romney . Thanks for posting it bethere http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/24...t-since-movie/ Now that is scarey, how many of these buyers have been trained? I was taught gun safety and how to handle a hand gun at 6, since dad was a drill sargent in the special forces. If you read this Obama and Boehner agree. It the Left wing Liberals that are pushing gun control again.

Some of you are clueless. I blame it on public education.

The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting or home defense. It is the people's check against tyranny. Our founders most certainly intended for citizens to own weapons suitable for military purposes...period.

I recommend reading-- Stephen Halbrook's-- That Every Man Be Armed

That said, I'll repeat myself. This tragedy has NOTHING to do with lax gun control...period.

I'm with you all the way on this one. Someone bent on destruction will find a way to achieve their goal. A single crazy with the right knowledge can kill a lot more people without using a gun.

Don't let this get around, but the most deadly weapon the killer used in close quarters was the 12ga. shotgun.

They'll be wanting that next.

I remember hearing something like 35 federal, state, and local weapons laws were broken by the Columbine killers. I guess if we'd just have had 36 they'd have thought twice. lol

I understand the reasoning behind the 2nd Amendment. However, last time I checked it wasn't the 1700's anymore. You and I are going to need much more than assault rifles if we are going defend ourselves against the tyranny of our government behind which is the greatest military super power on the planet.
Granted evil people are going to kill. We just do not have to make it easy for them. Like shooting 71 fish in a barrell in under 2 minutes.

Last I checked, tyranny didn't go out of style in the 1700's.

I'm sorry, but you still don't get it. Try the book.

1--through drones and infra red cameras they will know where you are, who you are with, and where you put your stuff with total certainty at all times;
2--new microwave and sonic weapons mean that they won't even have to get within firing range to take you out;
3--a good call, mr. drewline.

In close quarters, neither is effective. Trade the 870 for an 1100 and then cut a foot off the barrell.

Semi > Pump

He just needed a smaller magazine. The 100 round ones are notorious for jamming the weapon.

i understand your point, but if that ar-15 fired as it should have fired there would have been 200 victims, not 12. we have been incredibly lucky that these clowns don't go to the range and learn how to use their weapons, because if any of them were competent these tragedies would have been 10x as bad.

Even the old technology looks sufficient to convince me. :D

Correction: 71 victims of which 12 died, so far.
He had made an inquiry with a shooting range. However, the owner of the range was turned off by Holmes 'freaky at best' voice mail message that he spread the word to employees not to let him join.
