Jay Bruce needs too quite making Jay Bruce mistakes, you can't fall asleep on the base pads.

Good sweep of the Brewers. Cueto was great, bullpen was great. Got just enough offense. Can't believe the Pirates, they won't lose. Reds have won 11 of their last 13, and they can't put any distance between them and the Pirates. The NL central doesn't look as weak as before. Wilson Valdez with a good game today.

Good grief, AllStar Bruce has been anything but lately. Welcome to JJHuddle, by the way. It's a fun place, don't be afraid to jump in with your thoughts on things, regard less of what others may think. You be true to your own thoughts and share them!!

Bruce is a tough guy to figure. He leads the team in home runs and RBI's, but has a low average and isn't good with runners in scoring position, and has a low on base percentage. He's a very good right fielder, but has lapses of poor decisions from time to time. The Reds signed him to a pretty good extension during the off season. Time will tell if he's going to be a Red for the long haul, or maybe one of those guys that has some value in the trade market.

Latos against Wandy Rodriguez tonight in Houston. Rodriguez has thrown some pretty decent games against the Reds, and Jay Bruce has been absolutely miserable against him to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce gets the night off.

Good point Bird. Maybe Heisey gets a start in RF tonight??? Stubbs/Lud in the other 2 slots. Frazier/Rolen at the corners in the infield. Be nice to get the road trip off to a nice start.

You all are right re Pittsburgh. Hurdle clearly is Manager of the year so far. McCutcheon has to be MVP I would think so far, given all of the factors to consider. Frankly, I'd like both teams to get in playoffs.

Interesting since the 'Roid era is over (kind of, anyway....I think), that good starting pitching can once again overcome a lot of deficiencies in teams. Reds and 'Rates both have glaring deficiencies offensively, but boy they've been getting excellent pitching.

I'm not sure there has ever been a time when there is more good young pitching in baseball than right now.

Bruce is indeed getting the night off, and Heisey is indeed starting in right. All righties to go against Rodriguez.

1-0 Reds after one inning.

3-0 after three and a half. Hopefully Latos can make this an easy one from here.

Not so fast, Astros have 4 hits in the 5th inning, 3-2 Reds but the Astros have 1st & 3rd, only one out. Latos tweeked his knee/ ankle and he's not been the same. I'm surprised he's still in.

Lead is widened to 7-2 in the eighth, hopefully this should be an easy putaway from here.

I didn't know this team was capable of scoring more than 6 runs in a game. Wow, 17 hits! Two of the guys I've criticized the most (Ludwick/ Rolen) are hot right now. Shows what I know. Hopefully Latos is ok.

Well it helps when you're playing the Astros. Good to see guys hitting though.

Mike Leake starts tomorrow night against some rookie.

It would be really nice to see the Reds go 7-3 in this stretch against the Astros, Rockies, and Padres.

A nice win by the Reds...did everyone see the guy who didnt' run out the popup in the later innings? he would be on the way to AAA ball. I know it was an easy out, but you got to show the desire you want to be there. I feel bad for Brad Miehls (?). The Astros have drafted awful the last 6-7 years, and he is left trying to manage it.

The Reds did what they had to do. Latos didn't throw so great, but did enough to get the win. It is nice to see the offense hit the ball well. The Reds are in a fairly easy stretch of their schedule, so hope they can make some hay. The trip to Colorado scares me a bit. The Reds usually don't play very well there. We worry about the Rockies when we have to though. Have two more against the Astros...try to win as many in Houston as we can get.

How about them Reds?

Joey out and the Reds are rolling. The pitching has been good, the hitting timely and Dusty, in his quiet low key way seems to have things under control.

What a great year to be a Tiger and a Reds fan... Let's keep it rolling boys!

Ludwick continues to do his job. To me he is the everyday LF. Plays great D, hits for power and is great in getting folks home. Frazier is a doing very well (put him wherever) and Heisey is showing flashes of last year.

Reds on a roll!!!

There is such a small margin of difference between the good teams and bad teams in baseball. Even last night, the Astros left the bases loaded 2-3 innings early, a big hit and that game may be totally different.

I hope people are taking notice. As much as we like Votto and offense, winning baseball is pitching and defense, defense and pitching. A guy like Adam Dunn can hit all the homers he wants, but he hurts the team more than he helps the team with a low batting average and no defense.

Gotta like seeing the Reds start to put some distance between them and the Cards and Brewers. The gap could close quick so the wins need to keep coming. Would be nice if the Pirates would go on a skid, I can't believe how they have been hanging in all season. The 3 game series in Pitt to end the season could be huge!

I'm thirsty!
