I love (L-O-V-E) this matchup. I caught both these teams live a number of times the past couple of years. Cory Benson is an insane talent. I think he is better suited at facing the Tigers' blitz schemes than almost any QB in central Ohio. He will be able to keep plays alive with his feet and has a good release.
I saw big improvement in the Devils's discipline between 2010 and 2011. Their games against Scioto were not as close as the scores appeared. They lost a few scores and a lot of big gainers in '10 due to penalties. The only TD they gave up was on a fumble return. Last year, they gave up 3 4th quarter TDs to the Irish when the heat started getting to them.
As I've said before, Pick Central lost a ton of talent and will be down (relative to years past) IMO. They'll be breaking in a new QB and will be in need of leaders to emerge. This one could be especially huge coming off the skyline game vs. Colerain. Recovery from an 0-2 start will be tougher in '12 than it was in '11.
Definitely Central Ohio game of the week material. May be Central Ohio game of the season. love the matchup!

The big ones that I am aware of are Jackson (the DT) and Alverson, the do-it-all freakish scoring machine. From what I understand, however, is mostly every one else returns.

Wb- Alverson is back along with the majority of the offense. The defense will have to re-load, but the offense has almost everyone returning.

Wow! My bad. I could have sworn he was a senior last year. That is very bad news for Central Ohio defenses. That kid is ridiculous!

MF has been good for the past 8yrs winning the city and making the playoff each of these yrs, but PC is Pickerington... This will be a close game for the 1st half, but then PC numbers will wear down the MF. PC is D1 and MF is D2 but when the recount comes out in a yr they will be D3.
PC - 28
MF - 13

Timbers: Great call on the kicking game angle. I'm always amused when I watch MF, with all their talent, and then see some kid line up Mark Mosley style and toe-boot a kickoff 20 yards down field.
Other points to consider:
It is an early season game and PC will breaking in a new QB (or QBs), whereas the Devils will counter with one of the best and most experienced QBs in the area.
Unlike years past, PC won't have a seasoned stable of RBs to lean on.
Another equalizer will be the leadership void at PC. Who will step up to replace guys like Boren, NJC, Foster, Raymond, etc. There will be guys fill the void, no doubt, but losing that sort of seasoned leadership will be a big deal, IMO.

WU- I will be shocked if Marion Franklin is held to 13 points. Their offensive skilled positions are as explosive as any in the area regardless of division and maybe the state. The match-up up front will be interesting. Should be a great one!

Rch: Tru dat! I'd wouldn't bet against Alverson scoring 13 by himself.

The season is near, and I truly can't wait! A few post on here reminds me of a thread I was on prior to the Trotwood game! The majority of the posters predicted MF to score 13 pts or less, THEY PUT UP 44! My point is this every skilled player that started that game will be returning! MF has a winning streak of their own, 20-0 over the last 2 regular seasons! I have to agree with a couple of things that were mentioned, such as PC constantly reloads there high school team, due to having an incredible instructional & little league program, buuuuuuut, with that being said! PC will be going up against the BEST team in the state in Aug! I genuinely want PC to win their gm against St. Ign in wk 1, due to it making MF's win over PC not only sweeter, but hopefully get MF , it's players, coaches , and school the recognition they deserve! Oooohhh, btw, to the posters who think its goin to come down to the kicking gm! Lol...it has to be close for that! 44-12 MF!!!!

RD Dad: Welcome to the Huddle. Love your enthusiasm and I do love your Devils. Two things quick things, however. Picktown plays Colerain week 1, not St. Ignatius. And, as dynamic as the Devils are, with Benson & Dukes & Alverson & Co., I have a lot of trouble envisioning them hanging 40+ on the Tigers. That does trigger a great trivia question though: Who was the last team to score 40+ on Pick Central (answer below)
Answer: The Fighting Irish of Dublin Scioto....2005....43-7

Conditioning and kicking game -
07-06-2012, 01:58 PM
When MF played Canal Winchester last year, although MF had all the talent in the world, their conditioning nearly cost them the game. They literally looked worn out in the first half. CW lead til very late and two big plays by some special athletes pulled it out for the Red Devils. Canal really controlled all but 3 minutes of the game. Later in the season, I saw them play in cooler weather and after playing into shape and they were pretty awesome. Still had the worst kicking game I saw all year.
If they can beat CW and PC back to back, they may roll all the way to Trotwood again. Doubtful but would be impressive.

You have no idea about PC's D-Coordinator, there is no way they hang 30 points on PC let alone 40!

King34- I agree to in theory, but PC will not just out athlete Marion Franklin like they do 80% of their opponents. They better be careful with the all out blitz and man on the outside. MF has a mobile quarterback and 4-6 athletes on the perimeter that are outstanding athletes. Should be a great game.

This should be a good game. I still stand with my early post PC by 14. However, both teams have a hard week 1 game that the coaches and players better worry about first. I hope both teams are 1-0 after week 1, that will make this game a little funner. Best of luck through the summer to both schools, see everyone week 2.
