T.J. Hammer is the new Tinora basketball coach -

Wow! I hope the powers that be are happy now at Tinora. They get a coach they can control, who cares if they win! Good luck with that! Well at least they didn't rehire the AD's friend who coached before Mahnke. That guy was awful! How long before this coach makes a players parent unhappy and they force him out to?!

I don't want to pass judgement on this guy before he starts. He's got a tough road ahead of him. Hopefully by the start of next season there will be a new AD, one who actually supports the coaches. Don't know what these parents are thinking, instead of using this as a good teaching moment for their kids that they need to obey authority they have taught them that if they cry loud enough and long enough you can get your way. You have just gone from a coach with a winning record to one with a losing record. Hope you don't regret what you have done parents. Hopefully he just had losing records because the tradition wasn't as rich at those schools.

Wow, this doesn't sound like a good situation. What happen? Sounds like the last coach had a winning record??? What happen with him??? I hate when coaches don't get the support of their administration. I expect some parents not to approve but come on.

I'd love to know what you think you know, or have been told you know. I have more facts than I need to know that what the parents did to the former coach was embarrassing to the entire school. Kind of a Tinora basketball tradition when they have a good coach i guess. I don't know why anyone would want to coach here, should just have the parents do it, after all they are the experts.

Today's sports are so much different than when I played. A 'old school' coach can't coach the way is needed. Either the kids are not happy, or the parents aren't happy. In today's world, a kid can't be told what to do, shouted at, told to run laps, otherwise a coach picking on the kid.
I'm in my early 40's, played in the 80's. I assure you not many of those coaches would be around in today's sports as most parents would have them run out of town for the things they did to us during practices. You know what, it made each and every one of us better for it!!!! Parents need to get off the high horse and realize a coach is doing what is best for each individual kid, it will benefit them in the long run, sports, life, etc.
Parents think a nice coach is the way to go. The kids will have easier practices well, no be told to do things that are needed, welcome to losing then. How many nice coaches win? Very few, I assure you.
Good luck to the new coach, and also sorry to see the old one go.

Sad but true. Being a Tinora alum I am so tired of this situation. I just wish they would leave well enough alone and let a coach win! Very surprised coach Krouse the football coach has not been run out yet, guess he hasn't had a run in with the wrong parent(s) yet.

I am also a former player from years ago and have an inside source that was "close" to the situation for six years and was "close" to the situation during the state run. He has told me in many conversations about coach Mahnke that the ad and principal had made it a tough working environment for the basketball program. The ad and baseball coach was telling kids not to play basketball. The principal and ad would have ridiculous demands and if coach m wouldn't comply they would report insubordination. Coach Mahnke deserves better and was treated unfairly. I know how the ad treated and talked or yelled at his players and my source has told me an instance about the football coach basically undressing a player in front of his teammates and kicking him out of practice the day of the Liberty Center game. I don't live around here anymore but I know that is one of the biggest games of the year, but somehow coach m is too negative. I don't know what kind of guy Tinora is looking for to lead their basketball program but in the Crescent the powers that be have basically selected what you would call a players coach. You might as well replace the name TJ Hammer with the name Steve Ford. All of his former players would stand up for him too, Steve is a great man. We hired coach m because he wasn't like the two previous guys. It is my hope that as time goes by that coach Mahnke's time at Tinora will be looked at as a great time for Tinora basketball. After all, he did help bring the community together which was a dream come true for many in the community. Now we are somewhat divided because of a select few but I hope TJ understands what he is getting himself into and the community gives him a chance but not only that instead of getting after the coach maybe we get after the kids to work a little harder.

The AD is only got his job because of his mother-in-law. People in the Tinora area knows what I mean. Remember when he was hired. Also, he wasn't a very good basketball coach either, he was before Ford. What kind of AD threats to move his kids to Defiance or doesn't let his kids play basketball for Maneke. About running Krouse out, they would like to but he wins 8 or more games a year. One bad year and he would be gone 2.
