Is there any chance we could see some newcomers from other sports such as Arbie Murray? His 6'3" height and basketball hands could make him a good target at receiver?

I think your talking about Tony Osborne, the running back/outside linebacker who filled in well for De'Veon at times. He graduated last year, he was a very solid player during his time at Howland.

Saber1980 is correct in one aspect of the game. When I coached I would look at the basketball players who were between 6'0 and over say 6'3'' and have these ambitions of playing D1 in college but just didn't have that overall talent. However,..as a Defensive Back, a kid that size would be snatched up in a NY minute by a D1 team. Plus his basketball man to man talents fits in perfect with FB coverage as does his knowledge of zone too.

Also as a coach you can tell the basketball coach it will toughen up the kid for rebounding, drives to the basket, and overall toughness which is totally true!

Plus a wrestler whose used to that constant contact would make one heck of a offensive lineman with those skills with his hands that are easily transferable to Football. And again it would help the athlete with his wrestling skills.

So lets hope maybe some other athletes do come out for Football and help the Team and their Classmates.

Osborne graduated this spring. Falfas attended 7 college football camps and excelled at each as fullback and inside linebacker. We were at 3 of the camps he was at. Falfas weighed in at 230 5'11 he was clearly the largest back even at both OSU camps. he was fast and impressed a bunch of college coaches. Cope did very well at Girard we watched his performance as well. Lockney hopefully will be there starting qb. he has alot better skills than Cope. Cope is a reciever not a qb. There are some others to watch but they really only performed at special teams last year. We have been watching the four players above and they will have to step up and lead this team to success. We just hope Angle mixes it up and uses some strategy on offense and defense.

I knew about Tony Osbirne, he was a good player, but there was another Osborne that was a sophomore. I thnk his name may have been Austin?

Bandon Alexander was a wrestler who made an awesome defensive back at Howland. Another wrestler that made an impact at defensive back at Howland was Greg Ryan. Cody Reeseman was a good defensive lineman who also wrestled.

Saber, I believe you are right, he's Tony's younger brother, and the name (Austin) sounds right.

While we're talking about players to keep an eye on, let's not forget about Tyler Drass, he was very solid in a back-up roll last year.

I just hope the players on the current football players have talked to the other athletes from the other sports teams and gotten the best kids to come out for the football team. Every body out there can help out in some way with some aspect of the game weither it be as a special team player or a starter or a 2nd stringer to give the 1st stringer a blow for a couple of plays evry quarter. Football is a brutal hard hitting game where you need bodies and kids who like to hit and have good spirit and want to be winners. Lets hope this Fall the Tigers field a team of kids that are dedicated to block & tackle like no others in the Valley and kick the crap out of all who dare show up to play against them.
Team Wins over everything!

More excited than i was about this years team. Numerous holes to fill but athletes are their to fill the holes. Not much size but maybe it will benefit Howland since we have had size and not gone far in the playoffs with it.

No one will stop Deveon this year and a passing attack that should be more than capable to do better than it has in Angles previous yrs. Defense will give up more points with the loss of their D coordinater and numerous starters.

8-2 at best with 6-4 a possibility also. Harding is going to be a tough win since they have the numbers, size and speed. Poland Canfield and Hubbard are the other 3 teams that concern me most. if Howland goes 6-4 we will lose to these 4 teams. Niles is a year away till they get numbers in their program up.

Look for alot of high scoring games this year.

It;s an uphill battle for the Tigers this yr. Huge amount of starters to replace starters, esp the entire offensive line! Which must make at least a seam for DeVeon to explode through or time for the QB to throw which Howland may do more of this yr to through off the oppossing defenses. Then there's the Defense, huge holes that need plugged there too. The Tigers have to be hostile and hit people with authority. They have to be nasty and fearless and make their opponents scared.

Howland coaches, most who are new and just learning the sysytem themsleves, must really teach these youngsters. And Howland doesn't have the massive lineman 6'5", 270, instead this yr we have 5'11" 210 kids on the line who are going to depend on techniques, brains, and guts.

This yr will be a great test of the Howland Football Team and it's Coaches.

Can anybody list who the current coaches are? I heard a few of them are former players under Angle?

Did we lose Echols?

I have heard we are possibly getting some coaching from recent graduates Eric Jones and Vince Peterson. Although the loss of some good coaches will hurt, it is good to see that the program is starting to transition into the next era of leadership.

I know one is Steven Boyle, who had been coaching at University of Maine. He is known in Howland history for ripping the ball out of the Canfields runner with less than 1:30 left in the game and allowed the Tigers to drive 40 yds for a game winning FG to advance to the 2 nd round of the playoffs back in 2002(?).

I know Dom Menendez is still there but it's only a matter of time before he gets a head coaching job himself(or replaces Angle eventually). I'm not sure who else is still there but I know the Tigers lost their long time defensive coordinator Ungaro, and also lost Coach Bayuk along with a couple other coaches to Warren Harding. So there's a lot of turnover in the Howland program, and not with just the players.

Things will have a dramatically different look after this year when De'Veon, Cope, Lockney, and Drass leave as well. Not to mention the ever flowing rumors that Coach Angle will be retiring after this season.

I think Steven Boyle also caught a few balls for big gains in that game also.

Steve Boyle is now coaching at Thiel, some of the new coaches are Angelo Ciminero formerly of WGH and West Branch, Eric Jones was DCord of freshman team last season and Jon Elliot former offensive cord. at Fitch.
