Default Ohio Capital Conference - Cardinal Division - 06-09-2012, 10:33 AM

So who takes the OCC Cardinal crown? Who challenges for a playoff spot? The lineup...

Dublin Jerome
Dublin Scioto
Hilliard Bradley
Hilliard Darby
Westerville Central
Westerville North
Westerville South
Worthington Kilbourne

Reminder... Worthington Kilbourne is D2. Everyone else is D1.

I think it is a two-horse race between Westerville South and Darby. I think like most years in the Cardinal, no one will run the table. The winner will be 6-1 or there will be co-champs at 5-2.

Here's my order of finish:

1 & 2.) Darby & Westerville South (toss-up)
3.) Westerville Central
4.) Dublin Scioto
5.) Dublin Jerome
6.) Hilliard Bradley
7.) Worthington Kilbourne (may finish in front of Bradley)
8.) Westerville North

I'll shuffle a little:

1.) Darby I'm giving Darby a slot edge here. if they stay healthy, I think they take the Cardinal, but will likely not run the table. We may have co-champs again.

2/3.) Westerville South and Westerville Central With the folks South has lost and the folks Central has gained (not to mention their new found winning attitude), the margin between South and Central has narrowed and I think this will be a G-R-E-A-T matchup this year. South is still loaded to the gills. They just have less margin for error with the defections. Plus, Coach P's teams are always good for a melt-down game or two. What looked like a pretty sure 9-1 type season is shaping up to be an 8-2 or 7-3 type campaign. The Wildcats will still be dangerous. Central is adding athletes to go with the size they had coming back. They'll be right in the thick of the league title race with South and Darby.

4.) Dublin Scioto The defense will be improved. It was one of the worst in school history last year, on par with the '06 team. However, back then, the defense roared back the following year in '07 to be one of the best in school history only giving up about 10 ppg. Not sure they'll be that solid, but they will be much improved. Especially along the d-line. On offense, they will throw. A lot. Evan DeMars will put up very big numbers.

5.) Dublin Jerome Not sure who the QB will be. That was a question mark last year and I am not sure it the situation has gotten any better this year. I could be wrong on that though. Without Cam around, it will be the Donovan Wilson show all....night...long. The fans may hate it, but I could possibly see a return to the ol' Jerome Double wing.

6.) Worthington Kilbourne Were very, very young last year. If coach T can get the kids to come out and commit, Kilbourne could get competitive again. Seems hard to imagine that they played into week 12 as recently as 2008, since they have been so completely mediocre or worse since then.

7.) Hilliard Bradley Lost an awesome senior class. They'll still have some talent and will up-end someone who finishes above them.

8.) Westerville North I think they are righting the ship, but are still a year or two away from their first conference victory since 2008.

Dub: Janre Hinton (#6 last year) is the only receiver who graduated. The irish have 5 of their top 6 pass catchers back. Shadoan, Davis, Matheny, Houston (out of the backfield), McDonald caught the ball well last year too. Yates is back and I'd expect him to play TE. These guys will all catch a lot of ball, because the Irish will probably throw more than they ever have before.

If the OCC doesn't completely reshuffle the division (excepting the move of Kilbourne & Canal), it could be a very competitive, entertaining mix of teams for years to come in not just football, but many other sports. (Still not happy about Kilbourne leaving!)

I believe that darby, south and central will all have a heated battle for the division with the dublins and bradley falling behind them by just a little and then i think kilbourne will be right in front of north. Its been difficult to see my team be winless for the past three seasons but i believe this will be a turn around year for the warrior program and they will win at least one confernce game most likely against kilbourne and against franklin heights in the season opener

WN-3: How are the young'ns looking and how is summer lifting going overall? It was great seeing the North frosh turn in a respectable, competitive campaign last fall. it would be nice to see them build on it and head into this fall with some enthusiam and energy.

Lifting has been amazing in both effort and numbers. The last season freshman have stuck together and became closer to the upperclass man and have helped out the freshman. I.believe that the varsity can finish .500 of they work hard this offseason and during august. They definitly have the energy and I'm proud to call them my alma mater seeing them condition and lift. The incoming freshman have definte skill and will win a.few games. I can't wait till the season opener at Franklin heights

Great to hear optimism coming out of Warrior country again. I'd have to think .500 is a stretch, but it seems as though you feel pretty good about "the streak" coming to an end. I certainly hope you are right about that.

i have high hopes for this years sophmore class there because they finished 6-4 and they only want to improve from there. they can easily beat franklin heights. grove city will be an l. reynoldsburg will be tough but from the games ive seen they could win. they can beat bradley and kilbourne because they did so last year and they will improve from there. thats why i have a feeling its turnaround this year. i also feel they can pull at least an upset

I look for Westerville South to run away with the title. Darby will have a good year and Kilbourne will be improved Westerville Central is a year away. The Dublins will also be improved. Westerville North will be young but better

Pulled these in from another thread. These were end-of-season summaries ThisWeekNews did last season. Should be good fodder for "who" has "what" returning. Can't find Westerville Central, but we have Eric preview and we know they are going to be pretty solid.

Yes. Except the 2009 team, which was absolutely loaded and came about 1 foot short of reaching the the R3 title game. And, it is worth noting that the Cardinal was pretty soft in '09. Liberty was the only other team with a winning record that year and they lost by 52 to Coffman and lost to South two weeks in a row by margins of 27 and 36 points.

South will be loaded this year, for sure. But I would interpret "running away with" as meaning 7-0 in Conference. I don't see that happening given what Darby and Central have. Not to mention South's habit of giving away at least one game a year.

Sounds like scioto is the team to beat. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/sports/2012/08/03/03-goin-camping-dublin-scioto.html

Seniors were 9-0 as freshman, military practices, and they have the best pizza eating press box statistician in the division with walking boss.
