Hopefully he can get some players out. With the low numbers coming in late as a coach can kill the program.

I was told, by an extremly reliable source, that the boys on the Golf team were all called in and "encouraged" to come out for football. They were assured that they could participate in BOTH sports. As both a retired golf coach (who was also a football coach at one time) I don't see how this could be possible since most golf matches are on Tuesdays and Thursdays and many invitaitonals are on Saturdays. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

It's possible that St. Wendelin will get enough boys to come out to make the program viable but it seems tough since they are such a small school. Anyone have any ideas on just how many boys are at St Wendelin grades 9 - 12?

They were 6-3 last season, but I believe nearly half of the team were seniors.

Per the OHSAA website, they had 55 boys based on enrollment in grades 9, 10 and 11 as of October 2010.

Going downhill. I've heard that their schedule will mostly be made up of the club and home school teams they've played from the Michigan area.

I think they should just cancel and be done with it. Not much help coming in the next few years. Current freshman only have 7-8 boys, with few playing sports. 8th graders will be the biggest class, but then after that the 7th grade has about 5-7 boys total, 6th grade has about 6 as well, and the 5th grade class has 2 boys TOTAL!

You may be right about giving up football. Thou I know next years 5th grade class has 13 boys and 11 are playing 5th and 6th grade football this fall. Some of those are athletic and hopefully they all stay out.

Maybe I was wrong on the exact grade numbers, but I know they have a few extremely small classes coming. Only hope would be to move to more of a club schedule, play who they can with the less than 15 players ans hope to bring up enrollment and hang on to see what happens

No matter the coach good luck to the Mohawks. From what I've heard about the cfl-mi those club teams are getting better every year. I could only think that it would be beneficial to join that league except the travel to Flint muskegeon and battle creek as well as maybe elkhart.

That would be a lot of travel, but it's better than plaiying an MAL schedule.

You are correct. The principal called in each golfer individually and talked with them, trying to convince them to play football.

How on Earth can you play both sports? You have to golf daily in order to be successful. They'd literally have to go to football practice and then straight to the range for an hour at least. I mean when I played it was...

School Out- 2:30
Short Game- 3-3:45
9 holes-3:45 to 5:45

I mean there's no time for those kids

You don't. You play football since this is the one/only/last chance these kids will ever have to strap on pads and play the ultimate team game. These kids have the rest of their lives to play golf.
