Couldn't agree more. Looks like Hoke is getting the program back to where it should be and OSU is probably gonna keep rolling, after a year (maybe two) bump in the road season. The way it appearing to take shape, Woody and Bo would be proud of what is about to come. It is gonna be fun, except for the other 10 teams.

I don't know, the rules have changed a bit since then. The reduction in scholarships doesn't let UM and OSU hoard players anymore.

I think if/when Nebraska gets rid of Bo Pelini and gets someone or if he gets someone that is better able to recruit Texas, and SoCal like they did in the 90s they'll be tough. I don't think they need to recruit Ohio, Illinois, and Penn. like the rest of the B1G.

If Wisconsin is ever able to recruit a QB that will be there for 4 years to develop they could give OSU trouble in their division, PSU is suspect yet with the new coach. If MSU is able to find the under the radar guys and develop them as well as they have they won't be the same Sparty anymore unitl Dantonio leaves to replace Sperrior (spelling?) at South Carolina or somewhere else. Iowa is kinda similar to MSU, and Northwestern isn't the same Northwestern of the 70's. I remember hearing Archie Griffin speak, he would say they would do something each week to prepare for Michigan, unless it was Northwestern week... that week they prepared for Michigan. Can't really do that now.

UM and OSU will still win a majority of those games, but they won't be large margins or they won't be able to pull starters in 2nd half every week and let the reserves play.

I did notice that PSU is doing surprisingly well on the recruiting trail. Got another commit yesterday, DT Webb that both Hoke and Urban were after hard. Maybe, O'Brien is going to get them back to a more consistent power.

Butteye fans should temper their shots at Brady Hoke. I watched him take a TERRIBLE Aztec team that couldn't do anything right and had no discipline and gets the best season in decades and a bowl in one year. It was stunning...most Aztecers in San Diego couldn't believe it at first. He did this with guys he didn't recruit. They looked like the Aztecs when Brian Sipe was throwing the ball
So Michigan comes calling and he goes there and coaches a team that ************ under Richy boy with again, players he did not recruit. The Wolverines were a much better football team last year than any year under Rodriguez. The man can flat out coach.
My Tide is taking them on in the first game next season and I will have some fitful night's sleep because I know UM has a great coach that will have his boys ready to play.
Underestimate Brady Hoke at your own peril. He's already 1-0 against the mighty Butteyes.

Plotius - I am not trying to criticize Hoke or the season that UM had, but he sort of caught the perfect wave. The Wolverines did not have to play Wisconsin, who were the Big 10 Champions, so that was a nice break. He came in when the roof fell in on Ohio State and I don't think that anyone could have imagined what happened in a one year span to the Buckeyes, so another nice break. He was fortunate to get his 1st game against Ohio State in Ann Arbor, which is probably worth a touchdown. His team pulled out an unbelievable drive against Notre Dame, also a home game, which was another nice break. On top of all of this, they were given a BCS berth, over MSU, who won UM's division and beat UM on the field - pretty fortunate again.
AND despite RichRod doing a terrible job at Michigan, he did hand Hoke a really nice Christmas present named Dernard Robinson. I know that Hoke and his staff did a great job with the defense, but Robinson beat Ohio State with his athleticism.
Alabama will beat UM by 14 points to start next season.

Could the same be said about OSU and not playing MSU in 2010? OSU was fortunate with that one. OSU didn't play Iowa last year... or how about OSU not playing Northwestern last year? You'll probably laugh but Northwestern has given EVERYONE fits in the B1G for many years now. OSU won't play Iowa this year either. How about OSU being fortunate in 2013, they won't play Nebraska OR MSU that year... It's not anyone's fault that teams rotate of the schedule, especially a coach.

He came in when the roof fell in on OSU? Ummm... no... he didn't.... He was hired and tressel was still there, the "5" were still there and were only going to have to sit out the first 5 games. Then Tressel is out in May then Pryor leaves. The roof fell in on OSU of their own doing. Pretty unfortunate for OSU if you'd ask me.

Home field advantage is usually worth a field goal, according to Vegas. UM players used to say that just coming out of the tunnel used to be 14 points, but that hasn't been the case in years. And OSU was in every game they played last season, so for them to be "down 7" to start, come on....

The defense needed the work, not the offense. To improve nearly 100 positions is remarkable, with many of the same players and FRESHMEN playing in the secondary and a few key contributors as linebackers. The offense had some transitions to a more pro style, but when they had to they ran alot of the shotgun option stuff. The coaches were smart enough to introduce some new but keep some old so there wasnt' another huge offensive set back like when Rich Rod came in (I understand why he scrapped the old system completely, that's a different discussion).

Does Urban Meyer come into a fortunate situation as well? He comes to a school with one of the largest athletic budgets in the country, he gets 8 home games in his first season, he gets Michigan and Nebraska at home and not Iowa or Northwestern on the schedule and he inhertis an athletic QB as well in Braxton Miller.

There were alot of things that happened that were out of Hoke's control, the stuff that was in their control they handled pretty well. To diminish anything that team accomplished just amazes me. I'll expect you to diminish anything this year's OSU team to being fortunate this year then as well. I know you won't because Urban Meyer invented football and Columbus is "ground zero" for college football. The greatest coach with the greatest team are finally united to dominate the sport that they will have to be elivated to the AFC North while the Browns become the newst member of the Big Ten.

Wingman - 1st of all if OSU would have played MSU in 2010, there is no doubt that OSU would have been the favorite in that game. Would Michigan have been favored against Wisconsin last year? Answer that honestly.
To say that Michigan Stadium is only worth a field goal is crazy. Northwestern having a home game is worth 3 points, so are you stating that it is as tough to play at Northwestern as it is to visit Michigan? See how many Big 10 players agree with that statement.
Fact - Hoke never faced Tressel or Pryor. If he did do you really believe there would have been the same outcome? Michigan's defense couldn't stop one of the worst offenses in College Football. Then look at the track record that those same Michigan players had trying to stop Pryor.
I also think that Meyer has walked into a completely different mess than Hoke. Did Hoke face a bowl ban before he ever coached a game at Michigan? If a school had their choice 12 months ago or now to hire Brady Hoke or Urban Meyer, how many would take Hoke? Very few, if any. Sounds like a little jealousy in your post.

One last note, why didn't you address Michigan getting a BCS berth over MSU who earned one with their play on the field?

^^^ MSU had three loses vs. 2 for Michigan and was ranked lower in the BCS standings, so no they did not "earned one with their play on the field". They had their chance at a BCS game, win the B1G title game they were in the Rose Bowl. They lost, plain and simple. Michigan beat 9 bowl eligible teams and was the first team in NCAA history to play 12 6+ win teams, if I have my facts straight, so let's not play this they didn't deserve to be in the BCS game. They did & they proved it on the field by winning. The Michigan players were even quoted as saying that they would rather have been in the B1G title game with a chance to either win and be B1G Champions and go to the Rose Bowl, or lose and not make it to a BCS game. Ohio fans can make all the excuses they want for Michigan's season last year. Facts are they went 11-2 and won a BCS game. If Buckeye fans wanna take away from these facts because of "breaks" well then I guess the 2002 season should be smeared with mud for OSU as well, because of all the "nice breaks" they caught during that season. "Holy Buckeye!" 4th down play vs. Purdue and the half hour late pass interference call in the Natty game vs. the U just for starters. Breaks and schedule are parts of the game and season. Some are out of the players control - schedule, not playing Wiscy during the regular season, and others the players do control - making the plays needed to come back and beat ND. Nothing can take that away from team 132. 11-2 Sugar Bowl Champs. GO BLUE !!

Everything adds up to the 58-44-6 series lead for Michigan. Including the Ohio fans' excuses, "breaks," burnt cars, and the dead bodies of Ohio fans floating in the Olentangy.

Not addressing MSU was simple oversite. Sorry about that, but I'll agree with OLPride about it. It's happened to many other teams in similar situations in the past, loss the CCG and no BCS bowl even though they could have received a bid. Mizzou is an example, was passed over for Kansas, it's happened a few times to SEC teams as well. Teams control their own fate going into those last few weeks, if you're in the CCG win and you're in, lose and you're leaving your BCS bid hopes to a selection committee for the Bowl.

Yes, Wisconsin would have been favored over Michigan last year no matter where they played, but it's a good thing games aren't decided by betting lines, otherwise they wouldn't have had to play the Nebraska game and if I remember correctly ND was favored to beat UM as well.... BOTH HOME GAMES. I think both lines started with Michigan GETTING 3 points and then the spreads swung from there depending on the betting. So no, Michigan's home field advantage isn't worth a field goal. OSU would have been favored against MSU but they still would have had to play the game.

I would like to think the UM/OSU game would have had the same outcome, just as you'd like to believe that it would have been different. We'll never know though. For you to say it would have been different ignores the fact that anything could happen in any game, a favorite can lose at any time... that '69 Buckeye team was "the team of the centrury" and "could have played some NFL teams" but they got beat 1 Saturday in Ann Arbor. A few years ago OSU was favored to win AT Northwestern... Northwestern won. In 2009 with the "great" Tressel and the "mighty" Pryor, OSU was favored to win AT Purdue, if you dn't remember how that turned out Purdue won by 8 and they only won 5 games that year. The favorites do win a majority of the time, but it does happen when the "underdog" does win, so to say for certain that UM would have lost to Wisconsin last year, or OSU would have beaten MSU in 2010 is not a fair statement. I think Wisconsin was favored against MSU last year in the first game by 7 and it got up to 10, and Wisconsins was favored by 7 against OSU.

Who knows how many schools would have wanted Meyer, to say every school did may not have been accurate, some may have been turned off by his lack of control over players (see many criminal charges against Florida players), some may have been concerned he'd leave early for "health" reason. Would UM have wanted him? I dont' know, but I'd bet after highering a high profile coach, going back under the radar would have (and turned out to be) the safer bet. The whole situtation blew up on them the previous time and they were willing to take a "safer" pick with someone that was familiar with the program, worked there, and was well liked by everyone. I told many people even before RR was fired that Hoke would be the next UM coach, most laughed at me but that was kind of the way things were headed. He left a coaching position at UM to get HC experience, turned around 2 schools, well a 3 school needed turned around and here's a guy that proved he could do it at the small schools, why wouldn't he be able to do it at a big school that he loves?

No jealousy at all in my comments.

Wingman - just because Michigan is a 3 point home favorite, does not mean that their home field advantage was 3 points. It means that looking at the strengthes/weaknesses of the 2 teams and the fact they are playing at UM makes Michigan a 3 point favorite for that game. Anyone who is involved with setting betting lines will tell you for example that Ohio Stadium is worth 7 points as are most stadiums for the elite programs (Michigan would definitely be included in this group).

As far as Hoke, I was not trying to criticize him in my original post (I even stated that). What I was trying to do is point out that UM had some very good fortune last year. Do I think that Hoke did a much better job than RichRod? No question qbout it. Do I think that he has proven himself as one of the top coaches in the country? No - his resume is simply not that strong - yet. Reading some of the posts on this thread and you would think that he has accomplished more than Woody did. Has he gotten off to a good start at Michigan - yes, and has recruited really well.

However, if I was a Michigan fan (which I am until they go up against Ohio State), I would be worried about Ohio State. Meyer (who I am not a big fan of) has too strong of a resume to simply blow off. Combine that with the hunger surrounding that program and I truly feel that Michigan will have a very tough time this November in Columbus.

^^^ No logical Michigan fan is blowing off Meyer, however there are a lot of Ohio fans that think Michigan and the rest of college football, for that matter, should be terrified of him. Heck, his mighty Gator(a season removed from a National title) team led by the Heisman trophy winning QB, Tebow, couldn't beat a Michigan team that had gotten beat by Appy St. that year. I think Hoke and the Maize and Blue boys are well aware of what Lord Urban and OSU can do and that hunger surrounding their program. However, I think there is a sense of again establishing the pride of the program in Ann Arbor. So, OSU should be just as worried about what is going on up at Michigan. The easy victories that came vs. RR aren't going to be the norm that most of the Buckeyes fans seem to perceive. Boy this rivalry is gonna be fun again. GO BLUE!!

^^I hate them because the fans are awful. Jealous is the last thing I am. Plus that game was in the Snake Pit, so that game really doesn't matter because they get every break in the world. Ohio is the most hated team in the NCAA, not only in the Michigan/Ohio area, but every where. The fans are absolutely terrible. Deal with it, no one likes Ohio. GO WOLFPACK!

That was a home and home series and the Bucks won both. NC State is not hated because they threaten no one. OSU was not even in the top ten most hated college teams this past year although I have to admit that they are usually in the top 5. But if you look at the list, all are powerhouse teams with the exception of Notre Dame. You're always trolling Ohio State threads (although this is not an OSU thread) ripping OSU with no facts to back your venemous BS up.
