Default Do Football Officials get paid mileage? - 10-25-2011, 11:57 AM

In talking with a buddy this weekend, he told me that Ohio high school officials get paid $60 per game plus mileage. Is that true?

Pay various from conference to conference and is set by each conference. I know in football for varsity games our game checks have ranged from $55-65. No pay for mileage until playoffs if your lucky enough to get one and that pays $1 a mile once you go over 50 for trip to the game site and is paid just one way. I will say game fees are much higher than regular season. Also sub varsity games vary from $30-40 .....that's 7-junior varsity. Again no mileage pay.

You seem surprised. Does that seem like a little or a lot to you?

Central District OCC crews do not get mileage.

“ When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life."

No surprise here. I think $60 per varisty game is too low.
I spoke with some officials from the Parkersburg,WV area and they told me they get $75 per varisty game in WV.

Probably extra pay because they have fewer schools therefore travel further each week ....just a guess.

In North Carolina, we get a flat rate of $70 for a varsity game and $60 for a JV game, no travel. The NCHSAA sets officiating fees for all sports.

In Central Ohio...there was a meeting of all AD's etc and the assignors agreed to a set fee for all sports, across the board. Football was ok...but other sports were really pissed.

I know umpires were unhappy for several reasons but most of all because the changes got shoved down their throats without any input from officials who were not also assigners. Imagine being told you were receiving a pay cut of 6-12% and you had no voice at the negotiations??
