It is quite ridiculous that Mooney has to take a week off because of those who make the schedule. I guarantee the kids at Mooney would rather be playing this weekend that sitting around without an opponent, no matter whom it may be. The high school season goes by so fast as it is, and to have to wait two weeks to play a game is unacceptable. It's not fair to the kids. That's just the way I see it.

Sometimes I wonder if we are "great" because of these decisions, or we are great inspite of them. I can only imagine how confident and healthy we would be right now if we played East Tech, NDCL, Betheham Catholic and others......instead of 4 D1 powers (counting the Glenville scrimmage) and a perrenial D2/D3 state title contender in DeSales. (DeSales BTW didn't Out-hit us, they Out- "clevered" us).
We'd probably be 4-0, with no injuries, and our young kids would have gotten tons of meanigful varsity minutes which could help us down the road. Instead we're sucking the life out of the varsity who have to play 48 minutes every ............single ..........game. If Ursuline (a two-time defending StateChampion) can get a full schedule of these patsy games and still play well in the playoffs, why can't we get one or two?
Steubenville has done just fine playing ############ty schedules for the last 30 years. If Steuby had our schedule 5-6 years ago maybe Collaros (one of my favorite football players of all time BTW) goes down, like McCarthy did and maybe Steuby wins "0" titles instead of 2 the last 6 years. That team was all Collaros and he played every game (expertly BTW).
Just something to think about.....We lose DJK (All Big Ten), QB in 2005, prolly a 1-3 round NFL draft pick. McCarthy All-State QB (ND) in 2007. We lose both state title games. That's either a lot of bad luck, or improper scheduling for a D4 team.
You make the call.
Someone please do the math.
Maybe we need to send a Canadian and Washington, DC, phone book to the Mooney schedulers.
Hey, whose in charge of that?
|
Agree with most of your post, but Zach was not even close to the whole team. The 05 and 06 teams had the D3 defensive player of the year and 6 other 1st team all staters. Zach was just the best player on a great team. It's not like he took the cleveland jfk to back to back state titles!

I know its not a popular opinion but I also question the toughness of the schedule. I imagine its hard to get psychologically "up" week after week.
I defer to the Mooney Brain Trust though, as they know a lot more about what really goes on then me.
I think Steuby and Ursuline have optimal type schedules.

After some Quick Computer Crunching, Mooney will stay in 7th or 8th after 5 weeks! The good thing is a lot of teams behind us lost which gives a little cushion for the Cards to keep in top 8!

I saw that Michael Zordich had a big td run yesterday for Penn State late in the game and Ray Vinopal had a int for Michigan...Congrats to both of them! Always nice seeing Mooney players do well

I have a question for you Mooney guys...I was watching the Elder vs St.Ed's game last night on the internet and St.Ed's DL Deonte Gibson had 6 sacks vs Elder and hurried the QB another 5-6 times. How did he do against you guys?? He literally looked un-blockable....He was #13

You can gripe about the schedule all you want. That is your right as a fan. But PLEASE get your facts straight.
Darrell Johnson got hurt in a PLAYOFF game against Bellaire. Danny McCarthy got hurt in a PLAYOFF game against St. V's. What does the schedule have to do with those two injuries?

Looks like Mooney will remain at #7 this week! Official Points are not up yet, but for a BYE week, I believe it helped! Healthy Athletes and our points went up. Time to go on a roll! 5-4 we will be a bubble team, but I feel we will get in. 6-3 and we are in and possibly Hosting Round 1. JMO, Go Cards!

Doesn't really matter where we would get in as long as we are in, I dont think the #1 team in the region would want to play Mooney at # 8.

I guess the trick is when you schedule the big games (like the No. 1 ranked D2 school) is win them. Just an idea.
