It's been a rather hectic day, but here's the basketball/music trivia quiz I promised to post. A few of the questions are "recycled", but after about eight years, it's tough not to repeat. Also, with some new AARPsters, I thought the "recycled" questions might be of interest.

Here's the way it works. Each poster has the opportunity to make FIVE GUESSES from now until tomorrow (Thursday) night at mid-night. Also, we're on the honor system, so NO GOOGLING or REFERENCE MATERIALS may be used. Best of luck!

HOOPS - General Questions

Oh man! I missed it! I work Tuesday through Thursday, and I didn't get on here soon enough to get the ones I know.

27. I know you're not looking for Heart, but they have a song called "Down On Me" from the Bad Animals album. (Yes, album. ) When hubby and I were in our band, we did 17 Heart songs, "Down On Me" being one of them. It was a very bluesy song, not my style at all so I just copied how Ann Wilson sang it. We did probably five songs from that album; great times!

Let me add my welcome to the new guys, too. This is a great thread with great posters. No rudeness is ever experienced here because we are a group who are old enough to know better but young enough to still experience life to the fullest.

If you're ever in Upper Sandusky, look for the red Jaguar and give me a wave and a smile. I will return it happily. Carry on, gentlemen.

An excellent job by lots of posters. How about the Diva ("If you're ever in Upper Sandusky, look for the red Jaguar and give me a wave and a smile. I will return it happily". ). This is why our thread has its own diva. To be a diva, one has to act like one.

Good to see some "newbies", as well as veterans. It's good that Green&Gold posted some answer, but it's really important to check out the topic. The music was from the "Flower Power" era (late 1960s). Glad to see coldshoulder jump right on the trivia quiz since he missed the last one. As a result, coldshoulder is no longer on "secret-double" probation.

Below are the answers posted. The correct answers are in bold and there is some additional information provide for some of the answers. I've edited the original trivia quiz to include these answers.

coldshoulder
1. Tex Winter - Incorrect; actually Tex Winter learned the offense from his college coach.
3. Stephen A. Smith
6. South Carolina - incorrect
12. Wang Zsu Zsu (sp.???); correct - Wang Zhizhi

barney
10.

Bevo

19. The Monkees
21. The Byrds
22. Blues Magoos - not the original "Flower Power" artists

grub
B. Stu Jackson - incorrect, but the correct college
E. Earl Strom? (Wrote a great book, also mentions dad in it.) - interesting, but incorrect. Strom, known as "The Pied Piper" is from Pottstown (PA)

Here's a quick update:

grub
E. Mendy Rudolph (wild guess) - An excellent guess, but incorrect.
If that doesn't work, Richie Powers (if I'm allowed two guesses.)

storm
6. West Virginia - Yes, on the money. "Pistol" wanted to continue the Mountaineers' streak of big-time guards (Hot Rod Hundley, Jerry West, Rod Thorn),

Zunardo
23. The Easy Beats - Yes, good answer.

Remember, tonight at midnight you may have FIVE MORE GUESSES. Also, please NO-GOOGLING. The correct answers have been edited to the original trivial quiz.

OWK.....thank you for giving me credit for Wang Zhizhi (I had him as Wang Zsu Zsu). Actually I went back and forth on the last name and had it correct once before finally posting as I did. Then this morning I was going to add that he (correctly, as you pointed out) played for the Dallas Mavericks, and maybe even later played for the LA Clippers for a time?

But obviously I was close enough with the correct first name and the correct dominant letter and framework of the last name.

Since nobody's posted since 8:49 p.m., and since it's almost midnight, and since I'm off "secret-double-probation", I'm gonna jump the gun and add a couple of more answers:

5. "Donut".....for the "O" in the center
30. The Cowsills

coldshoulder - Hey, we've tried to be fair and not too picky. I didn't even have to beg Dean Wormer to reinstate you. Your answer to #12 was certainly close enough. Most people think Yao Ming holds the distinction of being the first Chinese player in "The League". Also, your answer to #5 ("Donut") is correct. The documentation is below:

What was the nickname Jerry West used in addressing "The Big O"?
DONUT or as Oscar writes, "DOUGHNUT" -
...."He [Jerry West] took to calling me 'Doughnut', because doughnuts looked like big O's."
....The Big O: My Life, My Times, My Game, by Oscar Robertson (page 116)
http://books.google.com/books?id=fs6IXDF80WEC&pg=PA116&lpg=PA116&dq=oscar+ robertson+donut&source=web&ots=7qKmORO58Q&sig=GM6z 6y1-T7hAYoKjOOBNckg_aqI#PPA116,M1

I can't give coldshoulder credit for "The Cowsills" (#30), but below is some interesting info on the group:

The Cowsills started their musical career in CANTON, OHIO. Their father, Bud Cowsill, was in the navy and stationed in the "Hall of Fame City". He worked there as a navy recruiter. The boys developed their act and performed at many church functions in Stark County. Their first TV appearance was on the old Gene Carroll Show (WEWS - Channel 5 in Cleveland). I'm sure Bevo and some others remember the television program.

rdlwolverine is also correct in finishing up #10 by answering "C". Larry Brown, the "Marco Polo of Basketball Coaches", is the proper answer.

Below is the update:

JoeA1010 - "Joe, say it ain't so". Welcome to the AARP Thread and you certainly came through with some big answers. I think you might qualify as a legitimate AARPster.

Very true that John Wooden spent his first two years coaching at Dayton (KY) High School, right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Your other two answers are also correct:

18. I Was Made to Love Her - Stevie Wonder
20. I Feel Free - Cream

The above correct answers have been edited to the last update.

Also, as a former athletic director at a NE Ohio high school that won 3-consecutive state SOFTBALL championships, you would have to be further away than Spokane to "hide" from the softball faithful. Thanks for posting, good luck and if you see Jerry Krause in Spokane, tell him the "guy from Ohio" said, "Hi".

As mentioned on my last thread, everyone has FIVE MORE GUESSES. Please, still NO GOOGLING.

NOW ROLLIN' ALL THE WAY TO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

I'll be darned, you're making me feel like a minor celebrity. If I run into Jerry Krause, I will definitely say hello from the guy from Ohio!

I have read Wooden's books too many times not to know Wooden stuff. And how 18 and 20 lasted so long is beyond me. Those were easy.
