Default Inter Valley Conference (IVC) 12-13 - 07-23-2012, 03:59 PM

I’m really looking forward to this coming IVC season with the girls. Yes, I think Hiland will have a killer team, but I’m interested to see what Garaway can do in Coach Hall’s 2nd year, and they will have the best post player in the area in Misko. Newcomerstown’s Allie Hinton will be a candidate for POY in the conference. I think the Miller girl at RW is a really nice player.

I think Malvern has a chance to raise some eyebrows. They have Logan Smalley and some good, experienced players around her. Plus they have a great frosh coming in with Sarah Loomis. If things go really well for them, they could get into the 2nd tier of IVC teams.

Most interesting to me is that I’m hearing that former CV Coach Moore has moved to Strasburg, and his daughter will play for the Lady Tigers this season along with her cousin. The Moore girl is a solid player. Strasburg would already have had high expectations, but this really helps bolster their chances of challenging Hiland and Garaway. Coach B has it going on over there.

My ridiculously early IVC rankings:

Hiland/Garaway/Strasburg
Ridgewood/Newcomerstown
Malvern/TCC/ Sandy Valley

hawk...Not too sure who they had/didn't have there, but thought Garaway played pretty well at Olentangy this past weekend. I agree that I would have them 2nd at this point

If the Lady Pirates can get the ball up the court and throw it into the post, they should be really successful. Defensively, they are always one of the best in the state. When you play them, you'd better pull your big-girl panties on!

The only one missing was Misko, the girls played like world beaters on saturday and went 3-0 against cbus centennial, oak hill and olengtangy liberty2. Played tough vs. Olentangy liberty1, lost to sunbry big walnut and lost to akron hoban all on sunday and played like bottom feeders. If the pirates can play consistent and get some scoring from the youngsters they will be fine. They handled the press all weekend, with the exception of first game, too many TOs and rusty. Strasvegas is gonna be a tough game for anyone in and around the IVC. If they are knocking down the outside shot they will be tough to beat. I haven't seen enough of hiland to even comment and I DO NOT want to give bulletin board material the those Hawks!!

I really haven't seen the Lady Hawks either. Just have heard about their summer achievements. They have beaten Twinsburg and Mckinley among others. They have some weaknesses with rebounding and ball handling that they are working on. They are at their best when shooting the 3 well. Not sure if that means they live by it.

They are playing in the Best of Maryland this week. How they do over there will reveal whether they are a good team or an elite one.

Dvr, I don't think what's said in July will show up in December or beyond.

hey, DVR ... I'm curious about who some of the newcomers are for the Pirates this year. Any potential freshman contributors?

Kendra Miller in the post. Izzy Meese and Cassidy Widder at the guard will give them some depth, defense and ball handlers. I expect Courtney Werker and Kendall Riedenbach to maybe see some time and give a little more depth as well.

Thanks, DVR! With Putt back at the guard, the Pirates should be pretty competitive.

I'm full of questions ... Hawkeyz, who appears to be the main cogs this year for Hiland? It's exciting to get some talk going! Should be another competitive season in the IVC and Eastern District!

Putt will be even better than last year, especially if playing the 2 no doubt. After watching them this summer compete against the Twinsburgs, Solons, Centervilles and Oak Hill caliber teams, I came away very impressed. The scrimmages they have and the non conference schedule against Uniontown Lake, Dover, NP, Carrollton, Northwestern etc. and the in conference games against Hiland and Strasburg will bolster this teams confidence. Look forward to some great things coming out of this season. Good Luck to all IVC teams.

Hiland will have a strong back court with Jr Emily Yoder returning at PG and then they have Sr Kendra Schlabach and Jr Regina Hochstetler at the 2/3. Regina can really fill it up from the 3. Jen Schrock is an experienced player at the 1/2. Jr Sasha Goings is a nice player. They are short of post players. Sr Jasmine Goings is a strong offensive player. Sr Natolie Nichol (transfer from RW last year) has nice size and is a strong defender. She can play some offense too inside and outside. I think her ability to play in the post will be a key for them. Then they have a host of sophs that are good players. Benay Miller (coming off ACL), Alex Troyer, Rachel Horn, and Megan Beachy will be major contributors. The freshmen have some good players, but with all the players in front of them, it will be hard for them to get a varsity slot.

They beat West Holmes this summer!

"Killer" might mean different things to different people. They will compete for the IVC and they have a good shot at being back in Columbus next year. They will be a very good DIV team. I don't think they will lose 8 games. We'll have to see.

It doesn't matter. I know Laina was there and I believe the substance of both teams played. I heard Hiland hit a ton of 3's in that game. WH will be the favorite when they meet in the season. Hiland beat some great teams last summer and went on to lose 8 reg season games. So, it's no big deal. I just noted the win over WH because you felt the need to pick up on the "killer" word.

Hiland has now played 3 games at the Best of Maryland. They lost to a 4A Indiana power by 19. They lost to a DC prep school by 13. This morning they played what was supposed to be one of the best teams there and led 41-13 at half. Ended up winning by 13. Shows they have a lot of work to do in terms of consistency.

jets likes to get worked up when someone questions about his beloved Knights doesnt he? Hiland im sure will be at the top looking down at the rest of us in the IVC, the district, sectional and regional will be like murderers row in D4 east this year. feel sorry for a few teams. Sburg, Hiland, Garaway, Shady and Bishop will be like a heavyweight fight of 25 rounds!
