Default Marcus Ball to Gahanna? - 05-07-2012, 01:31 PM

Gahanna officials are denying Marcus Ball (Westerville South) has transferred to the school. Say he is not and has never been there. Have heard from others he was/is.

Interesting. Why would he consider such a move? Or I guess I should say, why would someone assume he would make such a move?

From the above, it is rumor.

Maybe Gahanna has an even better IB program than Westerville South does?

On a more serious note, that would lead South in a bind if the word of Renzetti (sp?) transferring to Liberty is true.

Could it be hoops related? Maybe Gahanna is loaded next year and they have a shot at state.

Dammit Boss........you beat me to the IB punch.

If it's true......it's poetic.

Now hold on one second! You mean to tell me that somebody with talent is transferring to another school! This clearly has to be recruiting right? Oh wait nevermind this is only between two public schools. Sorry, couldn't resist. If Marcus Ball was transferring to DeSales we all know how this would be getting received.

This is absolutely not true. No reason to spread rumors.

State Law forbids School Officials from releasing any information about students without the consent of the parents. All Gahanna parents have to sign a release each year as to whether or not they want information about their child released to the media/public. So before we jump to conclusions that it was a denial, maybe we should think about the parent/guardian not wanting the information released. (for whatever reason.)

So until he shows up on a roster someplace or in a Lincoln sports program, then it is all just a rumor. Why do reporters want to dig, dig, dig...oh yeah, they think they are important.

Why would a kid transfer with only 2-3 weeks left in the school yr?
Just finish the yr out...

For 2 weeks? Wow!
Obviously academics is pretty low on the priority list.

This does shake up things a bit in R3, in my opinion.

I originally had Westerville South and Pick North as my favorites to meet in the R3 final. Ball's transfer will do a lot of things. In my opinion:

* It makes Gahanna more formidable than merely just a 'bubble' team, which is where I had them previously. I think the OCC Ohio gets 3 teams in to the post-season now (GL, PC, and PN).

* It makes Westerville South more beatable. I originally projected that Darby would be the only potential road block on the season. I could now see them dropping 2 and have a tougher time securing a week 11 home game (depending upon how the rest of the teams in the Cardinal do).

* UA's road to the playoffs just got a little tougher. I'm not completely sold on Elder yet, but UA has 5 games in HD, DC, OL, GL, and MV that could go either way. Gahanna, with the addition of Ball, just got a lot tougher (IMO) for the Bears.

In closing, I will say that I generally would argue that one player +/- would not have this kind of impact. However, he can make plays on both sides of the ball and things were going to be generally pretty even this year, so a little change on the margins can have a big impact, IMHO.

All i'll say is that was not the first school he looked at. If indeed true. 1st one told him to take a hike.

Soup: If he is truly at Gahanna, and is going to play this year, I would presume his family would need to have a bona fide move/change of residence. Are you suggesting he/his family had conversations with coaches prior to moving?

The transfer rules require a legit change of address so I am sure it will receive scrutiny. Renting an apartment and living in the old house in Westerville does not meet the requirement.

I feel sorry for all the teammates he left at WS, I am sure it is a blow to them.

Remember the Girl who sued and lost to try and play basketball at Pickerington North. Was made to sit out her senior year. Lets hope Ball's family has transfered into Gahanna or it will be another wasted year for another athlete.

I bet this has everything to do with the group in Westerville that is trying to repeal the recently passed levy.
