It appears that Perrysburg is going to be very difficult to beat this season. They are really smacking the ball all over the park. Plus, their pitching appears very solid as well. The NLL is so tough from top to bottom Though, that it is very premature to hand the Jackets the title too early. Southview is very good as is Springfield, and others, because of a tough #1 pitcher, can beat anybody on a given daY.

I predict that Springfield will be the one to beat.

Perrysburg's pitching is just OK, NOT dominating. Pitcher has a unique windup that causes batters to start their swing a little early but does not appear to have Great Speed? Perrysburg's SS is a fine defensive player but the rest of the defense appears vulnerable. Perrysburg has a couple of girls who bunt and slap well, which can manufacture runs without strong hitting.

Springfield has some Excellent Hitters and will be tough to contain. It will take a Strong Defense to hold them in check. Their pitcher (though young - Sophomore), is going to keep them in the game.

Southview will have difficulty against both PB and Springfield.

It will be TOUGH for anyone to make it through 2 rounds of league play without a lose or two?

Overall, I tend to agree that Springfield will be tough to beat. But your analysis of Perrysburg made me smile. I would never be considered a defender of the Yellow Jackets, but I think you might be a tad off here. Pburg is averaging over 9 runs a game. Not bad for a team that can manufacture runs. They also have 9 HR's in 9 games. Actually, they are manufacturing the heck out of the ball!! Eisenbrandt has an ERA of under 1.00. Not bad for an OK pitcher. At this point in the season, I wouldn't bet against either one of these programs.

Southview plays Springfield tomorrow and Anthony Wayne on Friday (weather permitting); both away games for the Cougars. We'll get to see how they play against some of the better NLL talent.

Perrysburg softball jumps on Bowling Green early and coasts to 8-1 win
Perrysburg refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Bowling Green, recording an 8-1 victory on Tuesday at Perrysburg.
The game was decided quickly as Perrysburg exerted its will early with five runs in the first three innings. An RBI single by Ty Wilson and a groundout by Cami Messenger in the first inning and an error and a two-run single by Wilson during the second inning fueled Perrysburg’s offense early. Katie Dunphy had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She tripled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth inning. Perrysburg got the win thanks in large part to Felicia Eisenbrant's dominant, eight-strikeout performance. Eisenbrant allowed no earned runs, four hits and no walks over seven innings. Bowling Green scored its only run of the game on an error in the sixth inning. Perrysburg quickly matched Bowling Green's strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the sixth. Perrysburg scored on a two-run double by Katie Zampino and an RBI single by Wilson.

Perrysburg`s pitcher Felicia Eisenbrandt has attended the Gillis Academy the last 6 years and has been taught by Doug Gillis the last 3 years. She has always worked very hard year round on her pitching and hitting. She has been very successful pitching on her travel team and has faced some very competitive teams from across the country. A pitcher does not have to necessarily have over powering speed to be considered dominate or have success. If she can change speeds and place her pitches well that can go a long way. Slower pitching can take a lot of the pop off the bat too. Her travel team always played a competitive ASA schedule over the past 7 years too. Unlike some on these forums over the years I have never bragged or really even mentioned my DD figuring if she worked hard and proved herself that would speak for her. I am glad she along with Perrysburg has been flying under the radar and it will be exciting to see how the season pans out.

Doesnt Granata still play for Pburg. In all the discussion it doesnt mention her and she is a solid catcher and one of the best hitters around. If they have gotten off to this start while waiting for her to really catch fire that is scarry. If the experts are correct, then Springfield is the team to beat, but as history has shown us the NLL is always a tight race and will probably be that way again! Glad I will get to watch a few games this year!

Central Catholic's #1 Pitcher lost 2 Games Saturday to NLL Teams.


Channel 13 Sports covered the Central / Notre Dame game the other night and their lead in indicated that Central's pitcher was the "Best" Pitcher in this part of the state. I think she is a nice pitcher but I would NOT consider her the Best? I don't think the competition in the TRAC is even Close to the level of play in the NLL. She is a Nice Pitcher BUT if she had to pitch in the NLL vs the TRAC, her Strike Outs and Win Totals would be considerably lower!

Remember CC has no backup pitcher due to an injured player. Sounds like Seiler had to pitch 3 complete games in less than 24 hrs and was probably spent after rival NDA game Friday.

The NLL does have stronger teams top to bottom than the TRAC. However NLL has no dominant pitcher and overall talent does not compare last 5+ years.

100% True about being spent...what Rural Guy also conveniently left out was that Seiler also had 15k against BGHS in that game, no walks and only gave up 3 hits (yes 1 was big-but only her 2nd big hit of the season).

I truly don't understand why people feel the need to criticize or call out any single player on this board...especially when they never seem to know all the facts or have seen the player play more than 1 time in a season. There are so many factors that lead to a player's success at any given moment, most importantly, the performance of the team around her. This is a TEAM sport and no one player, no matter their talent, can win games all by themselves!

A couple of things...

1. Seiler is a top notch pitcher who would have plenty of success is the NLL. She has played many NLL teams over her career and has racked up plenty of K's and wins.

2. Pitcher's of Sieler's quality are used to pitching 3 games in two days (but perhaps not as much so during the HS season).

3. Every time there is not a pitcher who throws 60mph people say "there's no dominant pitcher." This to me shows a complete misunderstanding of what "pitching" is all about. You don't have to rack up a ton of strikeouts to be dominant. Bre Buck from Springfield is looking pretty dominant right now. Her only loss is to...Seiler! In an extra inning game 2-1.

4. To say that the talent in the NLL is not what it has been the last 5+ years is a discredit to all the young ladies playing currently and is also untrue. No, you don't have the "big name" pitchers from years past, but there is a ton of talent in the NLL.

Since both the AW and BG Pitcher also pitched "Full Games" Friday night, then they Must have been "Spent" also? That is the "Unfortunate Side" for Most High School Softball Teams, is it not?

Again, Central's pitcher is a Nice pitcher, but there are a number of "Nice" pitchers in the area including the pitcher from AW and BG.

I don't think there is any comparison between the teams in the two leagues. The NLL, top to bottom, is MUCH Stronger (and Has Been) than the TRAC and/or former City League. I would point to the number of NLL teams that have advanced in the State Tourney, over the past several years, and compare those numbers to the TRAC/City League.
