Default Poland vs Fitch - 08-27-2010, 12:21 AM

Week 2: Austintown Fitch visits Poland for the first time. I know Fitch hasn't played week one yet, but what are your thoughts on this game?

Far from the first time Poland and Fitch have played. They played regularly in the 40's and once in I think the early 80's when Fitch waxed Poland pretty good. I'll dig out the history sometime later.

That is correct. The two schools have played 7 times with Fitch leading the series 6-1. The last game was played in 1980 with Fitch winning big, 41-6. Poland's lone win came in 1949, 32-12. Fitch was 0-9 that season.

Good luck to both teams.

Ytown,
Thanks for the info. It looks like it is time for another Poland win over Fitch since it's been over 60 years!!

I am, of course, rooting for our Bulldogs to win this game, and hoping for an injury free game. In any event, kudos to Poland for stepping up and playing Fitch.

Good Luck to the Bulldogs this week. It seems that both Poland and Howland are both stepping up playing the local Big Boys. Howland plays Harding next week. If either team or both can pull out a win it would be huge for playoff points as well as the respect for the AAC. Play smart, play loose, and play with class. See you in about 5 weeks!

Will Poland buy out the contract with Fitch next year? Listening to Brungard this week. he stated that he would not reup after 2011. After the curb stomping tonight don't be surprised if these teams don't play next year

This is generally what happens when a really good DI public school takes on a DIII public school, regardless of how good the DIII school is. The only time the DIII school ever has a chance, is when the DIII school is a great team and the DI school just happens to have an awful team. It's the size of the school, the 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 times as many boys to choose from. There are more bigger, faster , better players.

I can remember playing for Poland when Howland was still in the Mahoning Valley conference and Howland was a much bigger school, and besides that they were one of the better high school football teams in the Youngstown/Warren area in the early to mid 70's. I can remember being scared ############less playing on the field with those monsters, we held our own, but Howland was big and fast and strong at every position, twice over. Dave Moore, Jack Lazor, etc. We were all lucky to not come off the field in those games with nothing broken.

Look at Winton Woods last week. They were the best DII school in Ohio last year, and the best this year, last week they played a DI power and got there butts handed to them.

That's just how it is. Hopefully Poland didn't get anyone killed or maimed or hurt real bad and can recover and have a decent rest of the season.

Please get real. I was at the game. Fitch had the second and third string in the majority of the second half. Annarella is a class act and could have really ran up the score. What a bunch of whiners. This was a mutual decision. Poland wasn't pressured into this game. I actually have friends from Poland who tell me that Fitch ran up the score. Wow!!! Deal with the loss and move on.

The best way to combat running up the score is to play some D. I don't remember a huge pity party in 2001 when Mooney was losing by 40 every week on their way to 0-10. Poland's fans need to get over it. I'm sure the kids have already moved on.

Now if we could just get a little love for Ursuline and Mooney getting scheduled with local teams. That would bring some big time gates

Haven't been to a game the past few years when ursuline or mooney played Harding. How big were the gates at those games?

Because Poland is such a well coached team, fitch can't afford all the penalties they had last week or Poland will take advantage.Seeing both teams last week,I'd have to give the Falcons the edge in this matchup due to overall team speed and way more playmakers on both sides of the ball.Barring mistakes,I'd say Fitch by 2TD's,but anything can happen when two local teams get together for the first time in 30 yrs.Good Luck to both schools.

It is good to see local powers playing each other out of conference. Poland-Fitch, Mooney-Boardman.
