The first round of the Zanesville District Golf Association (ZDGA) Junior Golf Tournament was played today at Jaycee’s Golf Course west of Zanesville. The top graduating senior gets a $1500 scholarship from the ZDGA; second place gets $1000; and third place gets $750. On the girls side, the winner gets $500.
Matt Kaido of Tri-Valley staked his claim for the top prize by firing a stellar 2-under par round of 70. Gavin Mawhorr (West Muskingum) and Zach Smith (Philo) were in second place after the first day with a rounds of 73, but Mawhorr and Smith have high school eligibility left and are unable to claim the monetary prizes.
Below is a list of all the finishers from the first day. All participants played from the white tees today (girls played red tees), but they will be separated into flights on Wednesday, with the Championship Flight playing from the blue tees:
