  • Nominate Now! National Guard JJH Week 9 Team and Player of the Week Awards

You vote, you decide - who had Ohio's best player performance in Week 9?

JJHuddle is proud to announce that the Ohio National Guard will again sponsor the ONG JJHuddle Player and Team of the Week awards in Football and Basketball during the 2013-2014 school year.

Each week during the football, boys basketball and girls basketball regular seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Ohio National Guard Ohio Team and Player of the Week. Each weekly winner will receive an award (a banner) from the National Guard.

    How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted in the JJHuddle Football Forums each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the 10 weekly finalists on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.

Winners receive a personalized banner suitable for hanging from the Ohio National Guard.

    Newark Catholic

The offenses might not have lived up to the prime time billing, but Newark Catholic's defense delivered a highlight-reel performance.

The Green Wave intercepted Granville quarterback Isaac Maurer seven times - as many as he had thrown in eight games - and held the Blue Aces to just 31 yards passing in a 25-8 Licking County League nondivisional win Thursday before a TV audience and a huge crowd at Granville.

On the first truly chilly night of the season, NC (8-1) put Granville’s offense in a deep freeze. Maurer was just 6-of-20 for 31 yards and receivers Ajay Alderman and Brock Hill - who came in with a combined 100 receptions and 17 touchdowns - never caught a pass. Maurer had thrown for 2,684 yards and 37 touchdowns entering the game.

Bishop Hartley deserves consideration for an impressive win over Cincinnati Withrow. A case could be made for five or six Harley players as player of the week (#s 10, 21, 24, 31, 51...). There is not doubt Hartley is talented and extremely well coached.

Ada Bulldogs....Beat a previous unbeaten Delphos Jefferson. Down three with less than 5 minutes to go in the game, defense intercepted the ball and then the offense drove the length of the field to score the winning touchdown.

Saint Charles Prep beat watterson and won their first conference title since 1962! They won without their star player NiQuille bell who is out from a broken leg from last Fridays game against the kings mill kings. Players wore A sticker with NiQuilles jersey number 3 on their head to honor him

Circleville High School (7-2, 5-1) had another great week of action. They came back from a 14-0 deficit to defeat Liberty Union (7-2, 4-2) on the road 20-14 to clinch a playoff spot for the 2nd year in a row. The team made big plays including a touchdown saving tackle on the 1 yard line by Justin Hill as time had expired. Jonathon Brooks blocked a punt late in the game setting up a Circleville touchdown by Payton Griffin and then David Burroughs passed to Hill for a two point conversion to tie the game. Kyle Smith also came up with several key plays as he had an interception in the first half and blocked a field goal to set up the go ahead touchdown. Other big plays for the night were a fumble recovery by Jarod Topping, interceptions by Jared Roese and Hill, and a 44 yd reception by Trevor Fullen for the Tigers first TD of the game. The Tigers fought through the entire game and as a TEAM were victorious. The Tigers will host Amanda next week and with a win will be co-champions of the MSL Buckeye division.

Nomination for Player of the Week:

Derrick McIntosh (6'2', 225), Senior MLB and captain for Western Brown had his 8th double digit solo tackle game of the season in a decisive Bronco victory over Batavia, 66-26. McIntosh recorded 13 solo tackles in just 3 quarters of play, and eclipsed the 100 solo tackle mark for the season. McIntosh is averaging 11.6 tackles per game for the vastly improved Western Brown defense. Western Brown is 9-0 and in position for their 2nd ever visit (1st coming in 2008) to the playoffs.
