Any word on recruits that Urban is talking with? I believe he is visiting a Florida OL and a WR is visiting today. Its hard to get any information on bucknuts.com because it is a pay site. I would appreciate any information.

Even though he has only been on the job for two days, Urban Meyer appears to have focused in on his primary needs to finish out the Ohio State 2012 recruiting class. Meyer has been burning up the phone lines across the country in an attempt to draw top talent to Columbus. Who has Meyer spoken to, and who's listening?
Urban Meyer has not only taken the Ohio State fan base by storm, but it appears the new Buckeye boss is having a positive impact on recruits, both in-state and on the national level.
Even though he was introduced as Ohio State's head coach less than 48 hours ago, Meyer has hit the ground running, and his call list shows the ability to not only get a recruit's attention, but there could be a new cast of visitors to Ohio State this winter.
Who has Meyer reached out to? Where do things stand with Ohio State's 2012 recruiting class?
Noah Spence: The nation's top-ranked defensive end holds offers from nearly everyone, but up to this point Ohio State was not a player for his services. Last night, Spence tweeted: "just got off the phone with him (Meyer) definitely at the top of the list for now."
Dante Fowler: Another five-star defensive end prospect, and a current Florida State commit. Fowler has been talking about taking visits, and it now appears Ohio State and Meyer could receive an official visit. Fowler would be a huge flip for the Buckeyes, and getting him on campus is a big first step.
Brionte Dunn: The five-star tailback has been committed to Ohio State since last fall, but he has been taking unofficial visits, and Michigan seemed to be rising in his mind following two consecutive trips to Ann Arbor. A Meyer phone call on Monday night just might have Dunn solidly back in Ohio State's corner again, and Meyer deserves all the credit for that.
Jordan Diamond: Another five-star prospect, this time on the offensive side of the ball, this offensive tackle spoke with Meyer Tuesday night. Ohio State was basically out of the Diamond sweepstakes up to this point, but after the Meyer call it appears the Buckeyes will get an official visit.
Joel Caleb: The four-star wide receiver has an official visit to Ohio State coming soon, and the Virginia playmaker indicated the Meyer hire only increases his interest in the Buckeye program. Caleb will visit this weekend, and Ohio State will look to secure a commitment on the spot.
Shelton Gibson: The dynamic junior wide receiver became Meyer's first verbal offer, when he spoke to the Buckeye head man Tuesday night. Ohio State will be in Cleveland Heights High School this week, and although they cannot speak to Gibson, they will seek to flip Wisconsin commit Kyle Dodson.
Kyle Dodson: The Cleveland Heights four-star offensive tackle has been committed to Wisconsin since last summer, but there are rumblings he is looking around. Ohio State has a definite need at offensive tackle, and they will be looking to get Dodson on a visit before National Signing Day.
Se'Von Pittman: The four-star defensive end has been flirting with Ohio State recently, although he remains committed to Michigan State. Ohio State appeared to be gaining ground before Meyer arrived, and contact has been made between the two parties. As always, this one probably depends upon Pittman taking an official visit to Columbus, and there is no word if that has been planned. Look for Ohio State to turn the heat up on Pittman in the next week.
Keith Brown: The four-star linebacker out of Miami Norland was contacted by Ohio State late last night, as the Buckeyes try to address a glaring need at the position. Brown committed to Illinois recently, after being committed to Miami since early this spring. Ohio State will try to convince Brown to take an official visit in the next two weeks.
Kyle Kalis: Meyer did reach out to the five-star offensive tackle recently, but Kalis is still solidly committed to Michigan. The attempt to try to recruit Kalis back into the fold shows Meyer's brashness, and his recognition that Ohio State is in dire need of offensive tackles.
Nelson Agholor: The Tampa five-star safety has spoken out about the Meyer hiring, and is hoping to hear from the Buckeyes. Look for Ohio State to make a run at this playmaker, who has a history with Meyer. Landing a visit from Agholor would be a necessary first step in recruiting a player with offers from everyone.
Who's next to be contacted? One might just take a look at the Scout Top-100 and go from there, as it seems Meyer is embracing being back in the college football world once again. Names like Taylor Decker, Jonah Pirsig and Jordan Simmons should expect to see a 614 area code pop up on the call screen very soon.
There were questions in some circles whether Meyer could find the passion he had before suddenly retiring from Florida a year ago. If the first two days are any indication, it appears Meyer might be attacking recruiting like never before.

Penn State was once the quiet leader for Noah Spence, No. 4 in the ESPNU 150 and the nation's No. 2 DE. But now, the Nittany Lions are being given equal consideration alongside four other schools: Maryland, Ohio State, Florida and LSU.
“Basically, it's a wait and see process with Penn State with so much up in the air,” said Greg Spence, Noah's dad. “There's so much uncertainty with the coaching staff.”
Spence would like for his son's recruiter, Larry Johnson, to be retained on the next coaching staff. He'll know if that's the case before national signing day in February. As for a completed investigation into widespread charges of child abuse, Spence, who is a probationary officer, knows that could be a long time coming.
“We expect to get hard news about the football coaching staff,” he said. “In regards to the charges, the allegations and things of that nature, sometimes those things take two or three years. That's a lot of negativity. ... We realize that and we'll take that into account.”
The scandal has been a significant setback for Spence's recruitment, but his dad knows it pales in comparison to the scope of the alleged abuse.
“It's been disappointing for thousands, not just my household. Very, very disappointing for thousands across this country," Greg Spence said. "It's very disappointing that people might have been hurt.”
Penn State's slide in the race to land the Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt star has opened the door for Ohio State, which hired Urban Meyer as its coach on Monday. The two-time national championship coach didn't waste anytime reaching out to the Spences.
“That sends a tremendous statement,” Greg Spence said of the prompt conversation with Meyer on Tuesday evening. “Noah was really excited by it. As his father, I was excited to hear from coach Urban Meyer, and honored. He expressed that at the rush end, Noah would be a strong candidate to fill their need.”
Spence described Meyer as energetic and down-to-earth but made sure to point out that the recruiting process has just begun with the Buckeyes' new coaching staff.
“We feel really good about him but it's purely on the conversational level, the feeling out process,” Spence said. “Very happy and excited to talk with Coach Meyer and for Noah to even be considered to be a prospect in his eyes, but it's really in the initial stage.”
LSU has been there much longer, using defensive coordinator John Chavis to recruit Spence personally.
“Coach John Chavis, tremendous man, tremendous history in college football,” Spence said. “We've spoken with him several times. He's come to one of Noah's games. We had a chance to speak with coach Les Miles a couple of times. We like them all.”
Spence said his son also likes how LSU plays defense: hard, fast and aggressive.
Playing for an SEC championship and likely a national title this season doesn't hurt either.
Florida, on the other hand, will not be playing for a title. The Gators finished 6-6 and 3-5 in the SEC in Will Muschamp's first season. However, that doesn't seem to be holding back the Gators.
“Coach Muschamp's energy is tremendous,” Greg Spence said. “They hit a bump in the road this year but they won't stay there long. They'll be right back to be a national contender shortly I'm sure.
“The position they have in mind for Noah is kind of a hybrid defensive end. It's meant to make a lot of plays and put pressure on the passer. Noah is really looking at that hard as well.”
Maryland's record, at 2-10 and 1-7 in the ACC, was even worse. Yet the Spences are still considering the Terrapins thanks to coach Randy Edsall, who just finished the first season of the Terps' rebuilding process.
“It's really does not worry us because it's a transition year,” Greg Spence said.
Spence said they like defensive line coach Greg Gattuso's ability to develop defensive linemen. He also said the Spence family believes Maryland's coaches build character as well as football players.
“It's not just lip service,” Greg Spence said. “We really believe he cares about the student athlete even after they finish up at the University of Maryland.”
Noah Spence hasn't taken any officials and won't until his high school season is complete. If Bishop McDevitt wins its next two games, the championship game will be on Dec. 16.
The Spences plan to fly out the next day. Where? Greg Spence said he still wasn't sure where his son would take his first official visit. They've already been to Maryland and Penn State, which would leave LSU, Florida and Ohio State vying for a visit in just three weeks, as Spence is scheduled to make his announcement at the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 5.
Greg Spence said his son wants what most other prospects want: a good relationship with the coaching staff, a stable coaching staff and a top-notch educational environment.
Of course the Spences also want winning, but only a certain kind.
“A commitment to winning, but trying to do it the right way,” Greg Spence said. “In this age of scandal and programs being set back with difference scandals and NCAA involvement, you want a team, a coach and a program that has really tried to win.
“But win the right way and a way that the program will sustain itself and be consistent.”

I am sure he is in contact with a lot of recruits. I know all of Michigan's coaches are out on the trail before the bowl game making in house visits so I would assume he would be as well.
As far as going after recruits committed to other schools, it happens all the time and he would be crazy to not test the waters just to see what was there. These are 17-18 yr old kids and have been known to change their minds. As for Ohio St fans hope or pure arrogance that he will pull some of the Ohio kids back from Michigan just because he is Urban Meyer, I tend to think that will not happen. But everyone else is in play.

No comparison between Urban and Hoke. Like comparing a Mercedes to a Ford Escort. Everyone would take the Urban (Mercedes) because of about 100 reasons. mich had its chance for about 6 months then the window of opportunity closed on them again. It will another long 10 years for them...again.

You're right ... just like an unknown Bo Schembechler in 1969 who had no chance of recruiting against the legendary Woody Hayes who had been at OSU since 1951. Lol!
I really like Urban ... but I think we need to see if there are any Bowl sanctions that will hamper recruiting efforts. OSU can survive not going to a bowl this year ... but if there is a 2-3 year ban, recruits will think twice about coming to OSU.

Brionte Dunn will still be taking an offical to Michigan and had an in home visit from the michigan coaches this week.
Meyer can talk a great game but in this case his record goes against him. In his entire coaching career Meyer has never had ANY player rush for a 1000 yards in a season. If i'm a running back I'm not touching OSU with a 10 foot pole untill he proves to me that he is serious about running the ball and proves it on the field.

I think that you are setting Urban up to fail.
While I'm sure that this is HIS goal...this is unrealistic. JT had a steller Big Ten record with a couple of slips. It happens. Meyer had some games at Florida that his team lost that they should not have.
While a goal is winning every game, a Big Ten championship, beating Michigan and a National Championship every year....please do not expect this as you will be disappointed.

^^^ As much as it pains me to say this but there is no comparing the B10 to the SEC, and I am not foolish enough to think Urban is gonna go undefeated in the league the next 6 yrs. I believe JT lost 24 or 25 B10 games in 10 seasons and I feel very confident in predicting several fewer losses under Urban if we are lucky enough to have him for 10 yrs.

I hope you are right!! But JT had a great 10 years at OSU, not just good great. So if Urban can win more Big Ten titles, go to more BCS games and win more (think JT was 6-3), win more national championships, and beat Michigan almost every year, through in a Heisman winner in ten years. Then we can talk. I think some fans forget what it was like before JT came to OSU!!!

JT benefited from a down era of B10 football and Michigan in general, and don't forget about the perks to being the HC at tOSU that the other conf. schools don't like top notch facilities, big recruiting budget, large fan base, and it doesn't hurt being the largest and easily the most recognized program in the state with more blue-chip football players than any other state in the B10.

Officially*, JT was 59-14 in the Big 10 over his career.
(*officially means 0-1 in 2010. 7 Big ten conference wins vacated or record would have been 66-14)

LOL!! OSU is and will always be the number college team in Ohio!!! So now it’s down years for JT doing so well at OSU? Meyers will have the same advantages that JT did, why because of JT made OSU the premier team in the Big Ten!!! Wow only 14 loses in the Big Ten in 10 years!! ^^^ I'm not gonna take the time to check that stat but why did it seem like 20+ B10 losses. Heck, he lost like 3 times to inferior Purdue teams and a couple to Ill., 3 or 4 to Wisky and a pitiful loss to NW in 04 I think. Regardless of the win/loss comparison between UM and JT I feel certain that most of Buckeye nation will like what they see when watching an UM coached team vs. cringing while watching tOSU the last 5/6 yrs.

Wow! From Dumpster's post it looks like we don't have any decent football players in Ohio. Many years ago my dad, an OSU grad, loved to point out how many Buckeye players were from Ohio. If I'm correct about a third of OSU's roster were from out of state this year and that number will sky rocket.
It will be tough to root for a bunch of mercenaries who can't find Ohio on a map. But, I guess that's what kind of business it has turned into. It would be easier to cheer for Jimmy Crapstheragman from Circleville than it would be to cheer for Jamal Whatthehellishisname from Naples, Florida.

If your criteria is to have many local boys on the team, go root for Otterbein or Capital. They will fit your mold much better. If the guy from Ohio is the BEST athlete in the country....get him. If the BEST athlete resides in a different state.....get him.

imnotnutz,OHIO does have alot of great football players,MY QUESTION WAS ABOUT THIS SELECT GROUP THAT ALREADY HAVE VERBAL OFFERS FROM COACH FICKELL AND COACH TRESSEL ARE THE OFFERS STILL GOOD......And my belief is "If you are a true Buckeyes Fan,you will root for them regardless where the boys are from".....GO BUCKS !

Yeah but Jamal Whatthehellishisname is what will make TOSU win and win BIG. honestly i don't care if the buckeyes field a team of immigrants as long as they win i'm okay with it.

They have teams like you guys are describing. They are called PRO teams... According to Creeksider, Ohio only has small school talent whereas if you look at the other big ten schools they are littered with Ohio talent at positions The Buckeyes are below average. Take the quarterback position, Pryor wasn't the best quarterback in Ohio, he couldn't carry Collaros', or however you spell it, lunch bucket. Collars goes to the Bearcats and LEADS that team. Pryor and several other out of staters run Ohio State into a .500 season.
You may as well take the word Ohio out of the name and call it The State University. Better yet, let's ban all Ohio players from the team and we can watch all those mercenaries ruin the Ohio name. Does Kenyon Rambo ring a bell? He's a perfect example of a jack wagon he did his best to trash program. Oh yeah, put Cooper in that group too.
Go root for Labron James....

OSU needs to tap into the resources over in Alaska. After all, it is the largest state in the US. Texas and California are huge states and look at all of their great recruits. Just imagine what Alaska must have to offer.

Noah Spence commits to Ohio State

For the last several months, Noah Spence's plan was to make an announcement at the Under Armour All-American Game. And up until three weeks ago, Ohio State wasn't going to be one of the hats on the table.
On Sunday, during an official visit to Ohio State, though, Spence, a five-star defensive end ranked No. 4 overall nationally, committed to the Buckeyes -- the program's third ESPNU 150 commit in just a week.
"It just felt right -- the family atmosphere, the great coaches," ...

Think Kalis is rethinking his commitment. Four years against two Five star and two four star defensive linemen. No silver pants during his career.

Another big recruit committ in Spencer. OSU is cleaning house on defense. Id like to see some more offensive movement, in oline area. But pretty excited the Bucks could get a 5 star recruit who wasnt even considering OSU until a couple weeks ago.

This is what Urban Meyer is talking about when he said he is going to recruit like the SEC. The problem the big ten or Ohio State has against the SEC when they played Florida and LSU was the speed on the d-line. He is tryign to make a SEC defensive line at OSU.

I am trying to figure out what they are going to do with 3 DE's. Im surprised they are all committing and not worried about palying time. But maybe the staff has plans to move them around or just have a solid rotation at the position. I doubt any of them will see time next year with Simon and Miller hopefully coming back.

Pittman has played on the inside a bit at Mck and was actually more effective. He will have to put on alot of weight but he has the frame to do it.

Generally in the SEC, they have between 5 and 8 top defensive linemen in a rotation system. Keeps them fast and from wearing down...in a system like that, you wouldn't see OSU blow a 4th quarter to Nebraska, for instance.

I was just making sure I understood that a recruit would rather go split time at a SEC school than start at a Big Ten school. I know if I was in that position I would rather be the Chef and not a sous-chef.

The pay is higher.
Only you would rather ride the bench and take a chance on haveing your scholarship pulled if they found someone else then play for championships.

why did "meatchiken" recruit 4 offensive tackles, so they didn't play some where else. Some of them will shift positions or sit. D line men can rotate but O line usually is set to one group
