Anyone else heard the rumor NBC looking to disband? Already?!
 Also heard a NBC league meeting tonight. Confirmation?

No, but it would come as no surprise....Woodmore and Elmwood are too small for the league. Eastwood laying 82 on Woodmore didn't help. Depending on what happens in the MAL, those two could end up there.

I bet it is connected to MAL/NCC rumors for sure

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Elmwood and Woodmore go either after everything that happened 2 years ago. I can't think of any other schools that would be serious and legitimate replacements for them in the NBC. Might have to tough it out as a 6 school league for a while.

Elmwood and Woodmore would be great to what is left of the MAL now that would make 7, one more?

I see that you're new to the forum, so you probably aren't aware of the fact that the spreading of rumors is frowned upon by this site.

Seriously?? Isn't rumors what this site is all about? Give me a break. Anyone hear what came out of the NBC meeting last night? Rumors or half truths accepted....we are big boys and girls and can make our own assumptions

These unfort. aren't rumors.

Agree with stryker.

Some people throw a rumor out there, either presented as fact or with intent to damage a person or school. That's not cool.

But, to present something as, "hey, I just heard this, and am not sure that it is true, do any of you know anything more about this?" properly prefaced as conjecture, is what we're here for. Otherwise, we'd all just be waiting for two-week-old news to finally be "officially released" through news outlets.

Yes. Life would be so much easier if school districts would listen to the consensus of Huddlers. :) If that had been the case, Arcadia and Vanlue would already be on the road to consolidation, the BVC would have a schedule-unfriendly nine, the MAL would have a schedule-unfriendly seven, and Vancadia would conveniently be right on the border between them.

Then OF-Bettsville could consolidate and MAL would be back to even number again. The OF-Bettsville thing is closer than many might think....maybe as little as 3 years away. of course that is a rumor.

Well, so far I don't see any rumors on here. Old Fort's AD has publicly stated that two schools are definitly leaving and another is strongly considering. More than one media outlet has confirmed what a few of us have said on here - that Carey, Mohawk, Wynford, Seneca East, Buckeye Central, Riverdale, Crestline and Colonel Crawford representatives have met, more than once.

It is what it is, but I've yet to see anyone spreading rumors.

so back to the NBC - what do we know are the little schools thinking about a move or not? OR are the big schools going to try to find a solution so they don't lose the little schools?

BigTenBuckeye

Would that mean bringing back the "big school/small school" divisional setup proposal?

Hank_Hill

My thought is this....I don't think its out of the question to see part of the old SLL come back to life - Woodmore, Elmwood, Gibsonburg, Lakota and Northwood - in some way. That's pure speculation on my part. Its just that it wouldn't surprise me.

All five could come to the MAL for a ten team football league?? Then all play each other once in other sports i.e. basketball.

If I were the MAL ADs I would be all over this idea!

Any more on possibility of Elmwood/Woodmore leaving NBC for MAL...it has been quiet for a few days

50% of the eight fall league titles are owned by Woodmore and Elmwood. I think it is absurd to even remotely think they are not competitive in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

BUT you know it starts and ends with FOOTBALL.

People don't recognize anything but football. I remember when it was proposed that football be granted additional practice days in the Spring and people were falling all over themselves saying what a tremendous idea that was....well, almost all. I certainly wasn't and I like football about as well as anyone I know, but it would take even more athletes away from the other sports and no one really seemed to care all that much except a few coaches of those sports that would lose participants. It's so bad it's sort of like...Our school just won 17 out of 18 league Championships to win the All-Sports Trophy, and some dimwit would pipe up with...."Yeah, but we won football!!!!

I can't imagine the conference folding this soon. However, if it is I hope Otsego tries to convince the NWOAL to allow it to be their tenth league school.

strykerblue

Not sure they would fold as they would still have 6 teams if Elmwood and Woodmore go to MAL as some expect

I just went to the conference website. Blakeslee is right, Elmwood and Woodmore did quite well if all fall sports are taken into consideration. Some people look at the overall situation and some only look at football. I remember when Oak Harbor left the SLL based on computer points, or lack there of alone.

There sure are a lot of rumors and speculation out there. How does this sound?

Gibsonburg, Woodmore, Northwood, Ottawa Hills, Elmwood, Lakota, and either North Baltimore or Danbury

Eastwood, Genoa, Lake, Rossford, Otsego, Fostoria, and Maumee

wahoo1995
12-01-2011, 01:59 PM
Isn't Maumee a little big to be in a conference DIV and one DIII schools?

Hank_Hill

The NWOAL is officially looking for another school....you'd have to think Otsego or Tinora is high on that list. The MAL officially has three open spots now...let the dominos fall as they may.

i think elmwood would fit really well in the bvc a lot better in competition than the mal.

woodmore to the taac

i think elmwood would fit really well in the bvc a lot better in competition than the mal.The MAL has only 3 football playing schools left (Fremont St. Joe, Tiffin Calvert, and Lakota) I think it is done unless the NBC folds and they can add about 5 schools. This of course happens after next season, (Carey, Mohawk, Seneca East to the N10 and Hopewell-Louden and North Baltimore to the BVC) There is talk of the MAL becoming a Basketball League (or everything but football) with the remaining 3members and the nonfootball playing MAL members. (Old Fort, New Reigel, Bettsville, and Fostoria St. Wendelin) Hopewell-Louden has expressed interest in this set up also while playing in the BVC, a dual membership similar to Pandora Gilboa and Leipsic (current BVC members) who also compete in the PCL in Basketball and Baseball. As for Elmwood to the BVC, I doubt that very much.

is the Woodmore to the TAAC rumor realistic or just a thought

BigTenBuckeye
06-25-2012, 08:32 PM
I think it's a thought with good possibility. I had read a few years ago when Gibsonburg agreed to join the TAAC that the then-commissioner said expansion later on was still a possibility, but wouldn't name anyone as a candidate. A few years later with a new commissioner, I still haven't heard any word on that. I have to wonder though if the TAAC would consider Lakota, Calvert, and St. Joe's as football-only members or as full members if the MAL folds. Can't say for sure if Woodmore would find that more appealing than the NBC. Would also hate to see the NBC drop to 6.

Woodmore school officials emailed me and said committed to NBC

Why would elmwood not want to go to bvc they play them already better suited for them they might have a chance at winning league championships. I know they compete in the NBC ok but football I just can't see it so they probably won't make playoffs they might have a better shot in bvc.

I know they compete in the NBC ok but football I just can't see it so they probably won't make playoffs they might have a better shot in bvc. The BVC sent out letters of interest to all the schools that they were considering for possible expansion. I don't think Elmwood is one of the schools that they are considering (but I could be wrong and things change) I think that the BVC will add 2 more schools (in addition to Hopewell Louden and North Baltimore) I still don't count out Riverdale to the BVC even though they have committed to the N10. (they have waited years to get a chance to join the BVC) I can see maybe Ada, Columbus Grove, or even Tiffin Calvert before Elmwood, but again the picture seems to change daily.
