I understand that as a coach I'm not supposed to care about polls and rankings, but I can't keep silent anymore. The AP Poll is the biggest joke out there. For years we've considered this thing a list of the state's elite and it's nothing more than a list of undefeated teams in Ohio. AP voters do not take into consideration strength of schedule ever. And most votes are based off of simple name recognition. It's nuts.

I agree. agood team that plays a tough schedule should be considered over a team that plays a week schedule and will get blown out in the playoffs.

I've never understood people worrying about the AP Poll....and have never heard a coach comment. Why would you care? The AP poll is just that...a poll among Associated Press writers. The issue is that newspapers (the biggest source of AP pollsters) are cutting back...and in some cases shutting down altogether. The papers are turning more and more to the internet to get their news out to their readers. They don't publish entire papers, meaning in most cases that the poll voters may not even see an entire list of scores any more. Also, a lot of the "old school" sports writers who used to take their voting serious are now retired or out of work due to cutbacks. You've got a bunch of young "internet savvy" people running papers now. If you can't upload your story and photos to the paper's internet site, you're not going to be around long. These same young people have no idea what an AP poll is about because none of them were alive when it was a "real poll"

Stick with coaching and let the reporters determine the stupid poll! If you coach your team to a undeafeted season just maybe your team could get in the top 10! Now that would be an accomplishment to be proud of!! lol
