Waterson and Desales both lose and they flip-flop the number 1 and 2 positions in the power poll? I realize both of those programs deserve a lot of respect for past accomplishments but shouldn't the power poll be reflective of this season's performance? That being said, Valley should also get some recognition for their 1-2 record thus far in '11! Thoughts?

LV does deserve some thought and it's early, but...
Licking Valley lost to New Albany 45-20
DeSales lost to New Albany 27-24...on a last second FG
Watterson lost to Walsh and Pickerington North...
In D-III I have to say Jonathan Alder has been a huge surprise in Central Ohio.

I asked the same question in another thread. There are certainly other schools that appear to be as much or more deserving of at least the #10 spot currently held by Poland Seminary. Ravenna jumping to the #8 spot with a 2-1 record after being previously unranked is also questionable.
Does anybody honestly think much thought is put into these polls? The same teams are always ranked despite their records until week 7 or 8 when the voters actually look at the records and opponents. The same thing happens in all high school sports' polls.

I agree it makes no sense having DeSales and Watterson continue to be 1 and 2. Granted, they both lost to good teams, but 2 losses are 2 losses. Especially Watterson, they might have won the State last year, but they are rebuilding this year. The good news is that in week 10 they play Alder.
JohnnyCash, why do you think Alder has been a surprise? They have played a tough schedule for some years now. Looking back over just the last 5 years their points would have almost always placed them in the top 5 of Region 10. Unfortunately, they do not get the press as they are outside the Columbus outerbelt and have not been able to get into a conference.

Footbaskbasefan---Mooney--Ursuline play tough schedules..JA they have played a schedule the last few years that will improve your program but i wouldn't consider it tough like Benedictine-Desales- Watterson. Enjoy your season but if you have not won a State Title in D4 trust me its alot more difficult in D-3. P.S. be careful what you wish fore. Polls are Polls very
subjective very inconsistent. Good Luck to J.A. we look forward to Plain
City week 10..Will Der Dutchman have any specials going game night.??

They are an Amish Restaurant with the same specials they have every day:) Good luck Alder in that game! It will be interesting to see how they fair against Watterson. Alot of us around the Plain City area have always wanted to play these teams to just see how we matched up. Glad we finally will

Well said footbaskbasefan I completly agree with your statement that DeSales and Watterson shouldn't been 1 and 2, they are both 1-2 (mostly a product of schedules) and that type of scheduling has finnaly caught up with both programs. And in my opinion they don't deserve to be in the top 10. And the only thing I know after watching both programs for the past 35+ years is that they are so well coached and the young men buy sooooo much into both programs, that both teams are an extreme handfull for any team in any division by the end of the year. And Watterson could easily be 5-4 or 4-5 going into week 10 and very well might be in a absolute win needed in week 10 to get into the playoffs. So be careful for what you wish for in week 10. and JA could end up with the win but it could be possibly be the biggest slobber knocker of a game for both teams. Good Luck to all teams.
LETS GO EAGLES!!!!!!
I will be cheering on the Eagles as they take on Cinn. Winton Woods this Friday.

I think both DeSales and Watterson belong in the top 10 but perhaps not the top 2. Speaking to DeSales, they constantly schedule up, which will result in additional losses at times. It will also get your team tons of points when you win. DeSales struggled to get into the playoffs last year but their schedule was probably the toughest schedule of any DIII school and maybe any other school in the state.
This is the difficulty in these power polls - how much credit do you give to a team like DeSales and Watterson who are playing much tougher schedules than most anyone else in their division. A loss is NOT a loss in this situation. A loss to New Albany is not the same as a loss to Beechcroft.

Central District D3 runs thru Watterson and DeSales.. D3R12 is tuff also
Week 10 Alder - Watterson.. Alder might keep them out of playoffs, that would be HUGE for all D3 teams.

The statement about week 10 is that the good news is that the polls will be meaningless. It will be settled on the field as Watterson will have played both DeSales and Alder.
A loss is a loss and two is worse. No question about the competition. But it works the same way with wins. Who is to say that another undefeated team could not have done better against those teams, or even won. When there is no common foe it is tough to judge, but in any case, two losses are huge.
This early in the season Watterson is rebuilding, right now they are not a top 10 team. However, by the end of the season with experience, they could be a top 5 team. That is one team I would much rather play them now vs. week 10.

We know at Alder that is when they will be at their best for sure, and will be a VERY tough game regardless. We are finally glad to play a team of this caliber just to see how we match up. It will say alot of how we will do in the playoffs.
Anyway, we have a few tough games to play first:), but hopefully we will both be in good shape at the end of the season and just see how it all shapes up. Good luck to both teams on the way to week 10 and that they both stay healthy!! But let's not rush the season to fast, it goes by to quick as it is:)

Division 3 and Division 4 have shared many teams in recent years... There isn't a huge talent difference either way. It's really unrealistic to expect a small public school in the country to play a schedule comparable with private schools in large cities and small leagues. Alder's schedule is decent, but I don't think anyone is claiming to have a schedule like the DeSales/Watterson/Alter/Mooney gauntlet.

Not saying that its right, but New Albany and Walsh both defeated Watterson and DeSales in the final minute of their games. Otherwise your looking at two 2-1 CCL teams and no one would be complaining then. That being said, your correct in a loss is a loss.

So several of you are of the belief that had Watterson and DeSales scheduled Berne Union, Millersport and Fisher Catholic and gone 3-0 they would indeed be worthy of the No. 1 and 2 spots because they would be 3-0.
But since they elected to schedule some brutal opponents and lost some though games they should be penalized for being 1-2.
I do not believe in ranking a team simply because they are undefeated. That's where the AP Poll gets in trouble and loses its credibility. Just because you are undefeated does not mean you are one of the state's best teams. It just means you've beaten all the opponents you've played. You HAVE to take schedules into consideration for polls.

Would Watterson and DeSales be 3-0 if they played Marysville, Thomas Worthington and Clinton-Massie the first three weeks? Yes...
Would Alder be 3-0 if they had played any combo of Pickerington North, Walsh, New Albany and Gahanna? Unlikely.

Sooooo you're saying they're all three equal, then? 1a. 1b. 1c. kind of thing? Sounds about right...
In all seriousness, we will find out at the end of the season.
