This one is interesting. Both teams are coming off down years. I know its "just a scrimmage", but this could be a league game for both teams soon. Both teams are looking to be improved from 2010. Any thoughts?

Even though this isn't really insightful on my part, both teams should be able to hold their own. I won't be able to attend, so if Squirmy (or anyone else, for that matter is) can give a synopsis afterwards, that'd be great.

I think the underlying theme with Fisher is getting the pieces to come together. While I think they are built up and ready to converge and make something great, this will be Coach Hurps' first game (If I'm correct) as HC for the Irish. While I can't say an end result, good or bad, will be the cause of a predicament later down the road, it'll be interesting to see how essentially a whole new system works out for them. A sophomore QB (if I'm correct) with some playing time last year, is he ready to pioneer a new offense at the varsity level? I wouldn't be surprised if a few kids got moved around position wise to better suit the system/get a better utility out of their skills (some relatively small kids height wise on offense). Some questions that will be answered (somewhat) after this game.

One thing is for certain, the kids want to win really bad. The past two years (namely last year) I can't imagine were easy as a football player for the Irish, where the enthusiasm in the hallways about the football team is "At least we play Millersport" as opposed to in the past where there were a lot of pride in the football team in the stands, possessing the aura of "Who can drive us to Danville to see our boys in playoff action?". I can't speak for anyone in particular, or any "community"/"fan base", but I'd be willing to bet that with the departure of Jim Silcott from the administration, the consensus opinion of him letting Tony Hurps, a football coach, take over the AD position and have full control of the football team, instilling that trust in a young but smart man, was that he made an excellent decision.

Let the games begin, good luck, God bless and Go Irish.

Its this kind of passion that gets me pumped up about this region and high school football in general. Thanks GZ for sticking up for your guys. Both teams have a lot to demonstrate this year. btw- Is it just you and me that gives a rat's fat tonsils about about out teams? Any other GCC or FC fans care to jump in?

I heard Fisher won this 21-14. Squirmy, were you there? If so, can you give a synopsis? Thanks.

I was there, and was very close to the action.
This might turn into a manifesto, so please be patient. it's just my opinion, and at times I might seem to ramble a bit.
The final score when the clock ran out was GCC 26-21. The 21-14 was at the end of the third quarter. The beauty of these scrimmages is we both have a lot to build on. Don't worry about the score.
Both teams looked better than last year.
What I need to tell you is physically, your 1's beat our 1's up front, but I am having a hard time judging because we worked in so many freshmen and 2's during the 1st 3 quarters.
The first thing that sticks out in my mind is how much improved both teams are. Your guys are going to cause some problems in the MSL Cardinal this year.. if...if a couple of things happen-
FC committed way to many silly penalites, and it cost critical yards at critical points in the game. If Coach Hurps is working on the Bad Boy Miami or Raider team model, its ok, but you need to make sure the personnel can make up the yardage from penalties with positive big plays.
I love the aggressive play your kids showed tonight, but they have to have a little better self control.
The sophomre qb ran the ball well and made good decisions, but the execution on the passing game is a growth opportunity. Your team will thrive once that piece is put in place.
I was looking forward to the DiGinova v Brewer matchup, and Brewer was held to 1 catch and 2 targets. Yawwn! Other than that, GCC's passing game is in good shape.
FC phyisically beat GCC up front with the 1's, and GCC's 2 dominated the 4th quarter once they were installed as a unit.
I think our older guys took a lesson on heart from your guys, and I appreciate that.
Bottom Line stuff-
Fisher Catholic is vastly improved. Penalites are a problem. QB play will improve. I will guarantee you your boys will a be whole lot better than 1-9.
Coach Hurps has the program on the upswing. I am excited for your chances this year.
GCC has work to do to live up to the high expectations. These freshmen kids are starting to disturb these seniors who thought they would skate through.
Best wishes to Fisher Catholic and congratulations on a great showing tonight!

Thanks for the report Squirmy, and best wishes to GCC as well.

Penalties I can imagine would be a problem, and I think with Coach Hurps being the disciplinarian he is (though he likes to see the intensity and determination of the fatigue wearing Miami Hurricanes in his players, I would imagine), the penalties should cease.

I like to hear that DeGenova (don't know how to spell it) held his own on a good receiver, especially considering he's a real small kid (him and Delisio have got to be some of the smallest receivers in the MSL-Cardinal).

Now, not to sound like an unsupportive and cynical jerk, but I am impressed and somewhat surprised to hear that FC beat a team up front. Thats the Fisher football I'm used to seeing, and it speaks testaments that the kids on the line this year (not that last years squad didn't, but I think simply a matter of coaching) want it bad that they're going the extra mile on top of an even more demanding gauntlet from Coach Hurps this offseason.

How did Fisher's run game look like? btw thanks again Squirm for this report, its really enlightening, and kickoff is in less than a week!

FC has a good stable of runners and physical kids up front.
As far as desire, it was refreshing to hear the kids whooping it up from the moment they got off the bus to the final post game speech.
Quite frankly, I need to see a lot more of that from our guys if they are to live up that lofty top 20 ranking they got yesterday. We'll se.
I know that GCC kids are notorious for starting slow. I can tell you though that those slow starting kids will be replaced. There is a very good group of freshmen that are ready to step in and take some spots.
As far as Fisher Catholic is concerned, there is no way to tell what the record will be at the end of the season. Based purely on comparing last year's game with this year's, FC is going to be a lot more competetive.
