Let's discuss...who are the key players, offensive and defensive, that can get these Pioneers back in the playoffs. With a bump to D1, obviously, there is a lot on their plate.

Thoughts?

I only have a few thoughts:

* The Schoen kid is a heckuva athlete. I believe he is a senior this year, if I am not mistaken. I didn't catch any Orange games last year, but I saw both of their playoff games in '09 and I was very impressed with him.

* The opener vs. Oly is HUGE. Sister school rivalry. Bad blood, rubber match after the teams split the '09 and '10 games. Most importantly, both are now small DI teams competing in R3. Both Orange and the Braves look to drop a couple of games in conference play, so a victory in the opener is huge as 7-3 will be a tough road to the playoffs unless it includes a lot of quality wins. Whichever team loses in week 1 will likely need a 6-1 conference record to make it to week 11. Just my 2 cents.

That's right WB, he will be a senior this year. Look for much improved play from the O and D-lines this year with most starters returning. Biggest loss will be Blake Joe since he played both sides and was a heckuva an athlete too. Could have a great year. Right now, expectations are very high and the Kings Mill scrimmage will be a good indication of what to expect for the season.

Movins have helped Orange at every position. Mainly QB, O-Line, LB, and DB. Schoen is a great high school player and potential small DI scholarship player. But with the loss of some key talent it will be on Schoen to carry the load on both sides of the ball. With the same weak schedule as last year the Pioneers are guaranteed 6 wins (W. North, Mt. Vernon, F. Heights, Watkins, H. Bradley, Hayes). So the Olentangy, Liberty, NA, and BW games will determine if they can get in the playoffs.

Not sure what move-ins, other than O-line have helped. And I don't think Schoen will need to carry the load on both sides of the ball. Orange has plenty of talented athletes that'll contribute.

Their potential starting QB is a movin.

Their best CB is a movin.

A potential starting LB is a movin.

A potential starting FB is a movin.

I would say those are key positions besides half their O-Line being movins.

Where are all of these kids moving in from?

You are correct about the movins but the QB and CB played last year so they have some experience. Who are new O-line movins? I am only aware of one new move in on the line who came back to Orange. I think the big question is at wide receiver and that will put a lot of pressure on the RB if they don't find someone to step up. Theres plenty of opportunity for several juniors with speed and potential. Who wants it? Guess we will find out next month.

Two brothers- QB & CB moved in last season from Akron last year. Another is a transfer from Watterson and the only line man I'm aware of moved out of the district with one parent but moved back in with the dad. Olentangy is a huge, growing district so I'm surprised there aren't more.

My point is this, one move-in O-lineman started last year, as well as a corner, so all else is conjecture at this point in terms of helping the team. FAstest growing school district in the state means a lot of move ins!!

I understand through a secondary source QB Daniel Bull moved to receiver, so that becomes a great option there.

Peddicord anchors that linebacker corps, along with Hardy at D End. Pretty nice size all the way around.

A move-in last winter that should help is Sr. Cody Martin from Logan Elm. Big and athletic, and truthfully, a great kid.

Obviously, whether Junior Kofi Hill lives up to the hype at QB is a bog question (I think he will). He is big and can move. Can he lead?

I like the Pioneers and I think they go 8-2 and grab a play-off spot in their first year in D1.

With the same weak schedule as last year the Pioneers are guaranteed 6 wins (W. North, Mt. Vernon, F. Heights, Watkins, H. Bradley, Hayes). So the Olentangy, Liberty, NA, and BW games will determine if they can get in the playoffs.

I would not be so sure on the 6 gimme games. It is a league full of new coaches, which makes Bradley (although he was at Hayes last year), Hayes, and Mount Vernon less predictable. I would say FHeights, and Westerville North are the only true locks; I am not very familiar with Watkins. However, with all that being said I see a 6-4 for the Pioneers.

I feel that no game is a gimme since anything can happen. I think the 8-2 preditction is definitely a possiblity and maybe even better. Will be able to make a better prediction after the Kings Mill scrimmage on 8/13. Can't wait!

Is this the same team that Poland played a few years back?
I was curious how the program is doing?

If I am correct you were Div 3 Reg 10 at that time and Poland won something like 28-7 or 24-7. Wow, Div 1 from Div 3 in two years. I am really curious?

Yep TT this is the same team that played Poland. That was their 1st season. They did well their 2nd year and made the 2nd round of the playoff. Had to replace both starting lines last year and had a rough start but ended strong. Really looking forward to returning to the playoffs and having a strong year. Unfortunately they missed Div II by 5 boys so they can't afford many losses. I heard the other Olentangy High School missed it by 1 boy so they will be the smallest two Div 1 schools :(

[QUOTE=knightflyer150;5121349]I understand through a secondary source QB Daniel Bull moved to receiver, so that becomes a great option there.

So you are telling me Bull has played QB for 3 years for this Senior class and is getting no shot at competing for the starting QB job his senior year? Wow ! Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket of an unproven QB in K. Hill and no loyalty to a senior.

When it comes to gimme wins and Orange potentially going 8-2 "or better" there are competing perceptions then. If Orange can go 8-2 the 6 gimme wins I stated before have to be gimme because there is no way if Orange can beat Big Walnut or New Albany that they would lose to Bradley. Now a 6-4 Orange would suggest no wins are gimme.

yourmove: I think people were putting Bradley in the probable win/gimme bucket. I think the 4 games that will make/break Oranges season are: Oly, Liberty, NA, and Big 'Nut. I think they do well if they split those 4 games. As long as they don't slip up against a Bradley or Mt. Vernon, they'd be 8-2 and have a decent shot at Week 11. Not sure they can drop 3 and still get in. Just my 2 cents.

Your Move,

Just what I heard, not from a coach or anything. I've never seen Bull play QB and I've only seen Hill play it once. I have no dog in this fight, just sparking conversation. I have to imagine the best QB will take the field.

Two big kids that will probably do some regulating on Defense are Bill McCague and Doug Ganim. I think Ganim anchors that nose position.

ON D, Tristan Richardson got some time at Corner last year and did well, so you have to think he slides into one of those spots (or even a safety), with the Dayshon Hill at the cover corner.

How'd you guys do against Reynoldsburg?

Reynoldsburg won 14-7. Reynoldsburg scored early off a turnover and Orange scored on last play of the first half. Pretty sloppy game overall with a lot of penalties, dropped passes by both teams, etc. Reynoldsburg has some definite size on defense and a very strong FB. Both teams played it pretty close to the vest. Reynoldsburg really loaded the box on defense and when Orange passed they were fairly effective. I think Reynoldsburg will rely on the their Defense and ball control on offense. I think they will be much stronger than people think this year. I think Orange will contend for OCC-Capital with Big Walnut and New Albany.

Reynoldsburg defense looks that strong? Do they have athletic lineman on offense or defense and are they fast?

nsc126
08-20-2011, 04:50 PM
I think Reynoldsburg looked very solid on defense. They have some good size and speed. They had a DE that looked pretty good. Orange did move the ball on them at times and they were fairly conservative on their play calling. I don't think they wanted to show too much. Reynoldsburg liked to load the box and Blitz. Orange caught them in a Blitz on the last play of the first half and scored on a screen. When Orange spread them out more, they were not as effective.

Can you remember the DE number? My son's friend is Dublin Jerome qb. LOL
