Fredericktown (13-1, D-V State Semifinalist)

* Players to Watch – RB Matt Smith (5'10, 200, jr.), OL/DL Josh Neff (6'3, 260, sr.), FB/LB Cody McGuire (5'10, 190, sr.), RB/LB Joey Burns (6'0, 180, sr.), WR/DB Nash Cunningham (6'1, 170, sr.), DB/WR Brandon Helmick (5'10, 160, sr.), QB Ryan Logan (6'5, 195, jr.)

* Outlook – The Freddies are looking for their third straight 10-0 regular season and have the talent to pull it off. Although Fredericktown lost 13 seniors from last year’s roster, it returns a ton – especially at the skill positions. Smith ran for 2,238 yards and 27 TDs last year, while Logan threw for 600 yards and eight TDs. Neff is a two-way talent and defensively the Freddies are stacked with the return of McGuire (121 tackles, four sacks), Burns (60 tackles, four sacks), Cunningham (39 tackles, two INTs) and Helmick (38 tackles, three INTs). The first three weeks Fredericktown faces Sparta Highland, Columbus Ready and Ashland Crestview in non-league games.

How does Highlands team look this year? I heard they lost alot of linemen. Do they have any skill players coming back?

They played 2 QB's last year, one was a senior and was a more polished passer (he was older, so it was to be expected) while Logan was only a sophmore. He'll likely play full time this year, but it really won't matter how well he passes with the O-line they have and Smith running behind them. If they stay healthy, it will take a major upset to keep them from going 7-0 in the league yet again. There are a couple of teams that have the offense to keep up with the Freddies, but nobody's been able to stop their run game the past 2 years, and they wear you down by the end of the 3rd/4th quarter.

I heard Highland has a good back returning. Heard anything about that? They usually have at least one good one every year. I think it's the offensive system they run also.

How does the Fredricktown-Ready matchup look? Fredricktown sounds like they return a lot..

In my opinion the Freddies lose a lot, but have a good core group that returns

Should be a good preview game as the Freddies visit Arlin Field to take on the Tygers and the unveiling of the new turf. They obviously want to see how they stack up against a bigger school. Looking forward to seeing it.
