To aid in their "living" expenses, Big Ten is talking about giving each athlete $2-$5,000...

Go for it. A number of students go to college for free. Some go because of their brain, some go because their family is poor as dirt, some go because of their brawn. The ones who go for their brain or poverty are allowed to supplement their "income" however they want, the ones who use their brawn have "rules" on how they do that. And when you get right down to it, which group actually makes money for the institution?

heard rumors of osu possibly telling ncaa to crap in their hat if ncaa says tressel needs worse punishment, big ten needs osu (cash cow), may be way to stand behind osu without "playing favorites"

If you don't think The Ohio State University is behind this you are dumber than a hoe handle. Go Bucks and Go Jimmy...

We're heading down the road that could see the big six tell the NCAA to kiss their butts and break away, form their own association and rules, and let the mid majors fight over the NCAA scraps. Since the NFL uses college football as a farm system, might as well make it official.

Come on Mark Cuban, make it happen.

there will always be some integrity though as the colleges do not want to turn into just football factories

They are football factories...unless you are watching football in Europe!

you forget that 95% of the schools students do not play football and majority do not even play intramurals let alone college sports, come on man do not drink the koolaid, most people do not care about sports including football

I like that tBig Ten is standing behind tOSU – it's cash cow...nothing wrong with being a trendsetter.

Great point! Just repeating the same thing doesn't make it so. In fact, it only shows a lack of ability to articulate one's position.

Will never happen, IMHO. Title IX will come into play. Pay the boys, got to pay the girls. Pay big time sports, (basketball and football), have to pay the little guys.

So this is your argument for integrity in the schools. Guess what...why do you think then that the vast majority of the students don't get the "perks" that the athlete does? Reason is because the schools do care about there sports. It gets them visible to many people thru the TV screen (free advertisment). Think about on National TV when they announce player so and so is going Pro, wins awards, etc. I don't hear much about student so and so getting a 4.0 and going oversees to support program x.

College in general is a football factory for the reason above and many more.

haha hey man step out of your box, your boss gets better perks then you but there are way more employees then bosses, they are the majority, colleges love anything that makes them money but the fund a ton of stuff with the money sports bring in, and they know the more they spend the more they will get back, its business and the college USES athletics to supplement income, but the college's main product is not athletes it's graduates

But thru sports they get more kids than we think. Still college football is a Pro Football factory.
