I have met several coaches over the years (mostly because of this site and one in Kentucky)
The coach that I have met and have the most respect for his the head coach at Paint Valley(Pete Hollon) I met hm a few years back when he asked me to come up and Introduce myself to him. Since then we have stayed in contact with each other. The man is all class and I am honored to have met him and to call him , a friend.

Al Hetrick (Versailles), Charlie Burgbacher (Tipp City), Steve Nolan (Troy), and former Milton-Union coach Wat Farrar.
There are some real quality coaches out there and there are some real dirt-bags but overall I respect most coaches due to their passion in teaching kids.

Rich Weiskercher, former Marysville boss, first class guy, and ran a first class program. May not have won year in and out, but was a represenative of the community in what is good in coaching and how you should act in mentoring kids.

Randy Baughman - Licking Valley and Thom McDaniels - I think he's still an assistant at Solon. Formerly Head Coach of Massilon Jackson, Warren Harding, and Canton McKinley.
I've met them both and they are both class acts.

Pete Hollon is a class act. :D Not only has he been a constant supporter of Paint Valley High School, he is now running his first marathon to help support a Paint Valley high school senior that was diagnosed with cancer in December. What a great example of a hometown hero!

Herren: Had you included Reno Saccoccia in that rogue's gallery, JJ probably would have moved this thread over to the Trivia forum .
Anyway, mine would be Satch Sullinger. When he sat his own son in the playoffs in order to send a life lesson, despite probably costing his team a state title run, he earned my respect for a lifetime. Too many coaches coddle their stars in general and their progenry in particular in the pursuit of success at whatever cost. What Satch did took king sized stones.

I've had the opportunity to share a few hours and a lunch with Coach Norm McElheny. Norm coached Hilliard High School from 1951-1971, compiling a 110-68-9 record, including 5 conference titles. He coached an impressive number of players that went on to become successful professionals, and while his on field record was impressive, it was the impact that he had on the lives of his student-athletes that impressed me the most.
Here is a cool article about Coach Mc from the 1980's on our Davidson fan page:

I was at a basketball game that Satch was scouting several years ago and he just started talking to me. I asked the "tall kid" with him if he played basketball. Of course he did and Satch introduced me to 8th grader Jared after I asked if he was a sophmore or junior. Then Satch said he was going to be better than his brothers. I said that's quite a tall order but Satch had no doubt. Reason #625 why I'm not a basketball coach. Anyhow, it was a fantastic 1st impression of a father and son and I'm glad they took the time to chat with me.

I've met a few coaches in my lifetime, but none have held a candle to the one that roamed the Coldwater sidelines for 15 seasons. Coach John Reed will likely always hold that top spot for me.
Others I've met and respect:
Chip Otten
Todd Schulte
Tim Goodwin
Al Hetrick
Ed Domsitz
If we're talking assistants, too, then I can count anyone who's ever served with the Coldwater program that I know personally or have had as a teacher: Tim Hoyng, Randy Wright, Thad Forsthoefel, and Jerry Kanney.

Ed Terwilliger at Olentangy. Tremendous amount of care for his student-athletes. Ed has also had a tremendous impact on the staffing around the Olentangy School District over the decades.
