I talked to a WH player a few weeks ago. He was very confident and optimistic that the Knights were going to be much improved and win some games this year.

I asked him, "So you will beat Hiland?" He just laughed. I don't know whether that laugh meant "Wait and see" or whether it meant, "Let's not get carried away." I hope he does extremely well tonight. Great kid.

One thing I've learned about HS kids, their psyches are extremely fragile. Anything can happen.

1st game of the year I would not go that far. I think it was more of West Holmes is not a bad team. The freshman point guard handled the ball well and is a good player.

What are you saying about your team if they lose by 20 to a not so good DIV team? Hiland may not have played to its potential but I was impressed with the team West Holmes put out there. They had some nice size and played pretty good halfcourt defense. They gave up too many fast break points and made some bad passes.

You threw West Holmes under the bus in your OP. And back over them again with this post. I think West Holmes will surprise some people.

I agree with you on this. I too expected more out of Kaufman. He turned it up a notch at the end but could do a lot more. The rotation of players during the game and the new guy will take some ironing out through out the season.

Hiland will have to figure out the zone defense cause they will face it alot this season. I thought Noah an Dylan had about as bad a night shooting as your ever gonna see an we won by 20. As far as the tournament its way to early for that. An I don't think I've seen 1 hawk poster say we're a great team an going to state. I think its everybody else saying it
Cause we know not to take anything for granted.

Dylan is a better player when he doesn't try to put up 20-30 a night. When he shares the ball, rebounds, etc etc, they will be a better team. Mark said as much in the paper. Part of the problem last year was when he tried to do too much. Hiland has enough weapons this year he doesn't need to try to do it all.
That said, a win is a win, and Mark had said for quite awhile he didn't expect our first month to be very pretty. And last night wasn't, but few first games are.
Give a little credit to WH. They are certainly a better team than last year, and will get some wins this year. Arnold is indeed the real deal. He will set a lot of records at WH over the next 4 years.If Hiland is as bad as you're saying, then WH must be pathetic, getting beat by 20. That is not the case: WH is heading in the right direction; in a year or two this series will be very competetive again.

Triangle, I agree. Based on Jguth analogy, WH is a terrible team, but we all know that's not the case. Still very young, but will show much improvement from now 'till the end of the year. A game like this early will help coach L find the things that need work.

i didnt say west holmes was terrible i said there was a huge mismatch with kaufman and there was huge height difference. i thought all of that would make a huge difference for hiland. west holmes just doesnt have the size to keep up

if Hiland makes it to the regionals I would say that's a pretty good year and they were kinda good, especially since the district will proly feature 4 teams in the top 10-15 in D4 (just calling my shot.......Rosecrans, Shayside, Malvern, Hiland) knowing its a long season and any of these teams could go down as well, injuries ect.

The Arnold kid will be special, wasn't at the game listened to some of it, is Joey out for season? I know he blew out acl? during football.... hope he recovers well...hope the Knights have a good year

and you still got beat by 20? Not sure I would consider that kicking someone's butt. He's a special player, I'll give you that. To be honest, he makes that team go. They are not the same team with him not on the floor. He had 15 points, but made some freshman mistakes. He will be even better as the year goes on. But if you are bragging about kicking butt getting beat by 20, you need to refocus on what's important.

I will tell you what is BS. This whole Arnold transfer talk. Major transfers to Hiland are an anomaly. In Hilands 50+ years of existence there have been 2 arguable 3 major transfers/ move ins in both boys and girls basketball.

By major I mean those that left a significant hole to fill at the school they left and provided an immediate positive impact by transferring or moving to Hiland.

Arnold will enjoy a successful career at West Holmes. They have some youthful potential and I look forward to their success in the future. I only root against my brothers/sisters from the west one game a year.

Odds are the next time the Hiland boys field a team on the West's floor the results will be the opposite. Good luck to your boys I hope to catch a few more games this year. Hopefully on the tourney trail.

Kids will only leave out there if they don't think they are getting a fair shake from their coach or if there is some other major problem they have with the program. Since Coach L seems to have things well in hand and the program is in very good hands, there won't be any transfers on the boys' side of things.

There are certainly some people who are full of it - the one's who can't move beyond the past.

Arnold is a pretty good freshman but he's not very strong and is small for his listed 5'9". Nice job on the win last night but realistically, I doubt Triway is comparable to the OCC.
