Administration @ Hopewell-Loudon says no to Volley for Cancer

Was wondering if any other schools have run into this problem where administration won't allow this fund raiser. I recieved this email today


2010 BASCOM COMMUNITY VOLLEY FOR THE CURE

The Bascom Community is hosting a Volley for the Cure event on October 14, 2010. This will be the first year that Hopewell-Loudon will not be hosting this fundraiser. Due to Hopewell-Loudons administration not allowing our volleyball players to participate in this event, the Bascom community has come together to make it possible for our players, family and friends to raise money and awareness . All of the money that is raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Everyone is gathering at Hopewell-Loudon High School at 6:00 pm to support this important event. Entry to the volleyball match for breast cancer survivors on this day will also be paid for out of the Bascom Communities funds that are raised. Please notify them at the door of the game if you are a survivor. The Hopewell-Loudon volleyball team will be playing against St. Wendelin High School volleyball team.
All presales are requested by Monday noon but you may purchase t-shirts on Wednesday Oct. 13 after 5:30 at Clouse’s Bar and Thursday Oct. 14 prior to the game. Hoodies will only be presale and prepaid. All pre orders may be picked up at those times also.

I heard a rumor that 85% of the money collected by the chairty goes to paying wages and only 15% goes into research. Does anyone know if these stats are correct?

Dover supports another cancer group at the corporate level and does not support volley for the cure.

A lot of the Catholic schools don't do Volley for the Cure because of Susan G. Komen Foundation's ties to Planned Parenthood.

High School softball teams do something similar called "Strike Out Cancer" but in their system each school can select any cancer charity to donate the money to. If Volleyball adopted that system, then schools that have a problem with the Komen Foundation or the amount that goes to the charity could choose another cancer charity and still hold the event.

I have always heard charities of any type has a similar pay out structure.

Why if the BOE of Hopewell changing their collective minds on this particular fundraiser? Does anybody know?

We had a similar situation with our school a few years ago where people were going to protest the game, because nationally SGK supports PP. We found out that the Ohio area SGK Foundation does not donate or fund anything of Planned Parenthood. Game went on without a hitch.

Maybe I read it wrong, but if the BOE doesn't support the game how are they having the game at the school?

i dont support these types of venues... simple reason as stated.... nobody truely knows how much $$ goes to the fund itself... I'd rather donate to hospice or something were i know all 100% of the money donated goes toward operations of hospice. This type of stuff is wonderful, but not as wonderful if only a low amount is actually going toward it.
