Can a player be pulled out when she rotates out of the front row for one play, then sub back in to the front left?
If not, is there a way to keep a player in the front more than the normal rotation?

I was told a story about a team doing this. I thought that if it were possible, why doesn't anybody I've seen do it? I can see where this would be extremely beneficial, especially in small school programs.

if that were the case, then there would be no reason to rotate at all...

definately not legal, that would be like a libero for the front row.

well thats not totally true, there is a way the libero can play front row- but they would become a regular player and change the jersey..thats if you for some odd reason would begin a game with 7 girls then lose one to injury.. the libero then changes to regular player and can play all the way around..

What could a coach's reasoning be for starting their best front row player in the back middle?

Lots of possibilities. The other team has a shut-down blocker that starts in middle front and you want to get your hitter away from her. You run a 5-1 and you want this hitter next to your setter (maybe she's a middle and run slides). Maybe she's also a really good back row player?
