Posting this for all Tiger Alumni and supporters.
If you are a graduate of Pickerington High School or Pickerington High School Central, you may want to check out the Gate Project at Tiger Stadium.
The Athletics web site has a brochure about the Brick Program and an elevation drawing of the gate.
http://http://pickeringtontigers.org/index.html
The Project was initiated by a Parent within the Booster Club in an effort to make a small yet lasting improvement to the Stadium. The Gate will be located at the entrance from the Hill Road (Home) side next to Ridgeview Junior High. The brochure outlines the Brick program where you can select a brick for the gate posts or a paver to have personalized as a lasting part of the project. The Brochure has all the details.
The deadline for the 4" x 12" brick has been extended to Aug 12 and the Paver Brick deadline extended to 8/31. The Pavers will be an on going option into the future as the plaza will be extended as more orders are received.
It is a great way to commemorate your high school years and your support for The Tigers.
There will be an article on the project in this weeks Southeast Messenger Newspaper. Link to the home page then click on Southeast. http://www.columbusmessenger.com/92.html
Hopefully the first step in many improvements to come.
Go Tigers!!

Well most of the sales are actually going to Alumni and/or the families of current students. I have also learned that some additional purchasers are past and present teachers, administrators and/or folks who were key in past facility improvements, the home bleachers for example.
Some Alumni have sent in orders from as far as California.
In some way, they are all Alumni of the Tigers!

I haven't been able to find the article on line for the Southeast messenger. I haven't even located a copy of the paper yet. Sometimes it shows up at my house while other times it does not. Will update if it shows up.
I have heard some questions about the purpose of the project.
The purpose is to simply dress up the entrance to Tiger Stadium. We would be facing replacement of the black top in the near future when the idea was sparked. The change in layout of the ticket booth and improving the pavement area is intended to reduce congestion on game night and reduce the number of fans queing up in the parking lot.
Funding for this project, as with many, was simply not available through the district as the focus is on upgrading class rooms and academic facilities which no one in town disagrees with.
The initial brick and paver sale is designed to fund this project only. It is not structured to build mass funding required for anything else at this point. Should the ongoing paver sale continue to bring in orders, the pavers will be used to expand the plaza around the gate with pavers and on down the hill into the stadium. The funds are going into the Athletic Boosters fund as it applies to multiple sports who use the stadium.
The district has purchased land, as reported in news articles, adjacent to PHSC. Future development of the Central Campus includes a stadium from what I have heard. It is hoped that when funding is allocated for this project that it will include field turf at both schools, Central and North, to allow for the benefit of all athletic and PE activities at both schools. I place emphasis on the 'hope' part of that statement. In the end, it would reduce maintenance costs for the fields.
In my opinion, this would greatly benefit the schools in the district and the community as a whole.
Thanks for reading.

Why?

Why?
Because those are the ones who played at Tiger Stadium. I agree that volunteers and parents are huge help within a football program but having a brick should be a sacred thing. Only a select few have done it and should be allowed to have a brick. Being a Mom or Dad who sells hot dogs at concession stand and has $125 to shell out should not qualify you. Is this about the tradition of Pickerington Football or just a fundraiser? Just my opinion.

Those I'm aware of, are doing it on behalf of their child who's in the program or graduated with their name and graduation date. I've yet to hear of a parent who's having one done on their own behalf.

I assume most are ones that played in the stadium, I know mine is with one current alumni and two soon to be alums. The tiger excitement is what makes our stadium what it is whether you are a player, cheerleader, band member, volunteer, or parent.

I agree that most parents are not alums from Pickerington and will not be getting a brick for themselves but for their kids. I added one for my 3 kids. The youngest may not even attend Central by her Sr year but she is at every sporting event cheering with the crowd. I already have a brick in the stadium where I am an alum (Jackson). These bricks were $500 but they helped fund the new stadium. Hope they don't build a new stadium, I like the current location... great atmosphere for Friday nights.

I have no dog in this fight, but I think it would be foolish (in the times we live in) to restrict the pool of contributors. Obviously you wouldn't want to have a section of the stadium sponsored by the Lion's Den or Chico's Bail Bonds, but why in the world would you not accept $$$ from enthusiastic fans and parents. Public funding for schools is only going to get stickier and stickier. As this happens, there is going to be more pressure to focus the money on the classroom and shift more of the burden of funding athletics onto the families. I think Pickerington will get this message partially delivered in their bond issue this fall. Until then, build a "Ring of Honor" if you want something to be exclusively for former players, but let the fans and families buy a freakin' entrance brick.

Thanks for your comment. Both my kids graduated from Central and I bought bricks in their names. That said, I and my wife put a lot of sweat into supporting the Tiger football and band programs over the years. I still have my season tickets that I bought when my son was a freshman in 2000. Do not restrict the purchase to alums only. Many people support this program and travel with the team. They should have the opportunity to lend their support and be recognized. If some are adamant about only alums, then get off your duffs and help develop a Hall of Fame or Ring of Honor for those former players to take part in. Until you naysayers put your sweat into supporting the team, do not try to restrict those of us that continue to support the team from purchasing a block.

This is open to all Tiger sports and supporters. Not just for Football.
I don't think there will be a new stadium any time soon. So the gate won't be going anywhere.

Those who transfer from Reynoldsburg, or transferred their kid for whatever reason should remain silent....Let the wall represent the "true" Pickerington football player. Who knows what that even entails anymore...

Wow mossberg, after a comment like that it's no wonder families want to leave your community. Maybe you should head up a project for the Reynoldsburg program that the community will support, like a simple trophy case that players and alumni can enjoy. It's hard to believe you're still carrying a grudge against families who moved out of Reynoldsburg. We welcome all new families, no matter where or why.
Do you honestly think sports is the only reason people leave your community? How many shootings did you have that involved high school age kids last year? How many gang bangers do you think you have now? How many of your football coaches even live in Reynoldsburg?

Wow, dude. You'll let them help you win championships but not buy a brick. Nice attitude.
No Walking Boss, Mossberg is no Tiger. He's just a frustrated Raider supporter who wants to blame all their problems on a few parents who were able to get their kids out of that environment. If you were to take a poll, I guarantee you 99 out of 100 families with school age children would leave if they could sell their homes. And I might add, it has nothing to do with sports!!
You need to drop it Mossberg. Your problems go way deeper than a few families leaving the area.

Personally, I would like to see the current stadium renovated to include new visitor stands. I think PC's stadium has a great atmosphere and is a tough place for the visitors to win. A new stadium on campus would be nice, but I think it would take away the "edge". This coming from a Lancaster fan. BTW, can I buy a brick??

Nice comment. I hope a new stadium doesn't lose the feel of the current Tiger Stadium. I have mixed feelings about a new stadium but I also think that the Tiger program deserves an upgrade with their facilities.
By the way, PC will be selling bricks through August 31.

Is the committee for an 8th lane still taking donations:D
That new stadium isn't coming any time soon. I have a 12 yr old who will probably graduate before the new stadium is a reality.

New Visitor stands and restrooms are sorely needed. Agree with you on the atmosphere. It is awesome. They opened the hill up for the playoff game with North.

In regard to a Brick, why not make it a paver. I am sure we could find a 'special' place for it. too funny.
Yeah, new stadiums are nice, but that close crowd is awesome.

Not sure how much they will put into the stadium given 'future', likely distant 'future', plans for a new stadium.
I am sure something could be designed as a combo of concession stand, restroom and visitor stands.
Along with home side restrooms, concession stand, restrooms, concessions, maybe some seating on the hill of some sort, restrooms. That should cover it.
Oh Restrooms, did I mention those???

Nope, but the Tigers will beat any team in a game of football in a parking lot in broken glass, rocks, or dirt. The wood splintered seats are to keep the fans standing. Welcome to Tiger Stadium!!!!!!!

Every little bit helps and this was all donated money and labor. The folks who participated and supported it are proud of the accomplishment.
All would love to see improvements which you noted plus several more. There is no argument there.
The district has responsibility for larger improvements. Initiatives by either booster organization (North or Central) to make improvements of their individual stadiums has been denied by the district board unless it can be applied to both schools. Most Notably in terms of playing surface. From what I have been told. Sad but true.

I agree this is unfair to both schools. The best way to solve the problem is to change the face of the board. Finding people with open minds to re-populate the school board is what will be needed to move beyond the "Your school can't be different from our school" mentality.
Some of you younger folks should run for board membership. :)
