I seen in the OHSAA rules that they say they are judging to LEvel 8/9 standards. But what is you have a Level 4 gymnasts, can they compete, Will they just get low scores if their performances are not up to standards?
Also does your scholl have JV squads?

Really do not have JV but the home dual type meets a lot of girls get to compete. Many girls at different levels compete HS gymnastics. Level 4 may not score real high but the team aspect of HS gymnastics is great. I still think they would have fun.

Not to be mean, but to the gymnasts who put in the hours and work at this for years, it's a joke when someone does a floor routine with cartwheels, front walkovers and round offs as their tumbling passes.

Our gymnast started at age 4 and is now 13. She just completed her second year at level 8, and she made it to Regionals both years. She strained a back muscle 2 weeks ago and did not compete Floor because it was to painful. She will be a freshman next school year and would like to do a lot of activities that are offered. She works out 16-20 hours a week at the club and will have to decide what she wants to do next year. She also sings and dances. The high school pole vault coach would like her to consider summer pole vaulting. In Northwest Ohio, High School Gymnastics has just a very, very, very few level 8/9 and maybe no level 10 gymnasts. Most are level 4,5,6. She would like to compete for her future school but she has not decided yet. There are so many new things for HER to decide. AND it is up to her not us. That is how we have always been with our childrens sports.

I guess it depends on the area of Ohio but there are many current and former Level 8/9 gymnasts and even several 10s competing for their High School. Watching the High School state meet was like watching a club meet, the majority of the gymnasts were well advanced beyond Level 4, 5, 6.

Almost every girl on the State HS podium was a level 10, with a level 9 here and there.

HS gymnastics saved my daughter's career and she will now be competing at West Virginia this fall.

Congratulations. It is nice that this worked out for her but I would suggest that this is not the traditional route to high level college gymnastics. I would guess that many years of club gymnastics provided the solid foundation

Very true, but the selfish and egotistical nature of club almost ruined it for her. It is unfortunate that most club gyms do not cooperate with the HS's to provide a better overall experience for the girls.
THank the Lord for HS gymnastics and her HS coach Julie Kayser and her club coach Misty Matthews who coordinated a schedule for her to do both.

You're right. The inherent nature of Club allows a lot of girls who have put in many years to drop through the cracks and quit after putting in countless hours in the gym. Most Clubs have a lot of girls in level 4 and as you go up the ladder the numbers dwindle to a very few at level 9 or 10. Even fewer can compete at the regional and National level and those that don't get frustrated and quit. Gyms should have programs that work with the schools to keep these girls in the sport. It's a shame because most of them have put so much time into it that they don't have a fallback sport or many options

Tom, you see my point exactly. Time, effort, sacrafice and even money for the girls, the parents and the siblings.
