The 42nd annual Ohio High School Athletic Association girls basketball state tournament tips off this week at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University. State semifinals will be held Thursday and Friday, while the state title games (all four) are Saturday.

State Tournament Players to Watch
Kami Mceldowney, Versailles
Junior recently tied school single-game 3-point record (six) and set program single-season 3s made mark. Scored 17 points in the D-III regional final as Versailles beat previously unbeaten Summit Country Day 50-33. Named second team All-Ohio. Averages 13.6 points.
Naz Hillmon and Emily Kelley, Gilmour Academy
Hillmon, a junior, was named D-III Ohio co-player of the year and the Northeast Lakes District player of the year. She averages 15.6 points and is coming off 28-point performance in regional final win over Garrettsville Garfield. Kelley, a senior and second team All-Ohio, averages 14.7 points.
Braxtin Miller and Libby Bazelak, Alter
Miller (Oklahoma State) and Bazelak (Duquesne) were named first team D-II All-Ohio, co-Southwest District D-II players of the year and combined for 37 points in a 55-38 D-II regional final win over rival Carroll. The duo is part of a senior class that is 113-5 the last four years. Miller averages 16.1 points, while Bazelak chips in 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.5 steals.
Kierstan Bell, Canton McKinley
Sophomore had 32 points in a 66-45 D-I regional semifinal win over Euclid. Added 22 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 51-49 regional final win over Solon. One of Ohio’s top sophomores, Bell averages 25.9 points and was recently named the Northeast Inland District D-I player of the year.
Kadie Hempfling and Kylie White, Ottawa-Glandorf
Hempfling, a junior, had a triple-double (12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists) and added eight steals in a 59-68 D-II district semifinal win over Clyde. The first team All-Ohioan averages 12.3 points. White, a senior, averages 15.1 points and is a 1,000-point career scorer.
Mariah Copeland and Bre Hampton-Bey, Toledo Notre Dame Academy
Senior guards and pair of 1,000 point scorers each had 10 points in a 48-41 D-I regional final win over Berea-Midpark. Copeland, who is headed to Cincinnati, hit six straight free throws in the final 23 seconds against Berea. Hampton-Bey (Michigan) was recently named the D-I Northwest District player of the year.
Angela Troyer and Kennedy Schlabach, Hiland
Troyer, a senior, was named Ohio D-IV player of the year, first team All-Ohio and Eastern District player of the year. She averages 16.2 points. Schlabach, a junior and 1,000-point scorer, was named second team All-Ohio. She averages 16 points.
Katie Shumate, Newark
Sophomore guard was first team D-I All-Central District. Averages 12.7 points.
Dani Lawson and Jackie Carman, Hathaway Brown
Lawason, a senior headed to Purdue, stands 6-foot-2 and averages 11.5 points. The second team D-II All-Ohioan recently surpassed 1,000 career points. Carman, a junior, was third team All-Ohio. She averages 14.2 points.
Jordan Horston, Africentric
Sophomore is one of country’s top prospects and holds offers from North Carolina, Ohio State and Louisville. Named second team All-Ohio. Averages 12.1 points.
Bridget Landin, Ottoville
Junior was named first team All-Ohio in D-IV. Averages 14 points.
Allison Day, Alexa Pennington and Mikayla Farris, Eastern Brown
Trio of underclassmen all average double-figures and all stand 6-foot or taller. Day, a junior and second team D-III All-Ohioan, leads the way with 15.7 points, while Pennington (sophomore) and Farris (junior) each average 10 points.
Alli Kern and Megan Ball, Waterford
Kern, a senior, was named Southeast District D-IV player of the year and first team All-Ohio. She averages 12.2 points. Ball, a junior, was also first team All-Ohio. Averages 13.5 points.
