MaxPreps & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Awards

You voted, you decided…who had Ohio’s best individual performance at the state finals? Who had the best team performance?

MaxPreps and JJHuddle are proud to wrap another successful season of the athlete of the week and team of the week awards in football.

Each week during the season (regular and post), there was be a fan-generated contest to tab weekly winners. Each weekly winner receives awards: bracelet and certificates.

How did it work?

Fans nominated top performances and nominees were selected from those schools that report stats on MaxPreps. Weekly finalists (up to 10) were announced on MaxPreps and JJHuddle every Tuesday and voting was conducted in a special poll.

Week 15 Offensive Football Athlete of the Week

* Tresean Smith, sr., RB, La Salle (Cincinnati) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Louisville recruit carried the ball 17 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 14-7 win over Perry (Massillon) in the D-II state final. Also had two tackles and an interception.

Week 15 Defensive Football Athlete of the Week

* Jaden Manley, sr., DB, Bishop Hartley (Columbus) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Had four tackles, two tackles-for-loss, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a 24-21 win over Steubenville in the D-IV state final. Also caught one pass for a 32-yard touchdown.

Week 15 Football Team of the Week

* Bishop Hartley (Columbus) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Hawks defended their D-IV state title with a second straight three-point win over Steubenville. Hartley’s Matteo Agriesti kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired for the victory. The kick was set up by a 59-yard return on a missed Steubenville field goal by Cody Kirkbride with 1:32 left.

* Kyle Varney, Liberty Union (Baltimore) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The quarterback threw for four touchdown passes (40, 20, 75 and 49 yards) and ran for two more (12 and 42 yards) in a 53-6 win over Liberty Union.

* Logan Elm (Circleville) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Aided by quarterback Logan Holbert, who accounted for four touchdowns and broke the program record for most all-purpose yards in a game (389), the Braves beat Zane Trace 26-24 by scoring three touchdowns in the final 2:56. The last touchdown – a 27-yard touchdown pass from Holbert to Terry Willison – came as time expired.

* Jarett Patton, Washington (Washington Courthouse) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Senior quarterback threw five touchdown passes and 267 yards and ran for 116 yards and a touchdown in a 48-42 win over Circleville.

* Benjamin Logan (Bellefontaine) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Raiders scored a 28-13 win over host West Liberty-Salem, which was their first win in the series since 2005.

* Greg Corn, Madeira (Cincinnati) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Running back carried the ball 11 times for 163 yards and six touchdowns in the first half of a 53-0 win over Batavia.

* Olentangy (Lewis Center) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Braves rallied from a 51-24 third quarter deficit to beat Reynoldsburg 52-51 and remain unbeaten.

* Jimmy Strunk, Goshen (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Junior running back ran for 284 yards and four touchdowns in a 37-16 win over Blanchester.

* Wooster (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Generals beat Mansfield Madison 38-0 to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1986. Wooster has outscored their opponents 170-29 on the season.

Week 5 Football Athlete of the Week

* Brandon Easterling, Fairborn (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Senior receiver/defensive back set school records for receptions (15) and tackles (28) in a game in a 45-44 loss to Tippecanoe. Caught 15 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Had 21 solo tackles, seven assists and a forced fumble.

* Vanlue (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Led by a heroic effort from running back A.J. Reed (59 carries), the Wildcats snapped a 51-game BVC losing streak with a 30-26 win over Arcadia.

*Konnor Roberts, Meadowbrook (Byesville) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Quarterback threw for 254 yards and five touchdowns in the first half of a 54-6 win over River View. Game was called at half due to weather.

*Garaway (Sugarcreek) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Pirates used four plays of 50-yards or greater to beat Ridgewood 27-7 in a key match-up of IVC heavyweights.

*Jaquiez Sampson, Marlington (Alliance) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Ran for 303 yards and four touchdowns, including three in the fourth quarter, of a 48-35 win over Canton South.

The Warriors improved to 6-1 and beat Centerville for the first time in program history 28-14.

* Isaac Mcadams, Elida (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Quarterback threw for 497 yards and six touchdowns and ran for another score in a 49-48 win over Kenton.

* Sheridan (Thornville) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The visiting Generals snapped Tri-Valley’s 47-game MVL winning streak with a 42-24 win. Sheridan outrushed the Scotties 354-186. Senior quarterback Dylan Dupler ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 134 yards and another score.

* Jay Kaufman, Ottawa-Glandorf (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Quarterback ran for 296 yards and three touchdowns and threw for three more scores in a 42-35 overtime win over Elida.

The Chargers forced a three-way tie atop the SBC standings by beating previously unbeaten Port Clinton 28-14.

* Tadas Tatarunas, Mentor (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Junior quarterback complete 20-of-30 passes for 440 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-34 win over Elyria.

* Perry (Massillon) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Panthers rallied from a 24-3 deficit to beat host GlenOak 30-24 and win their first outright Federal League title since 1992.

* Justin Franklin, Johnstown-Monroe (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Running back carried the ball 17 times for 275 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-17 D-IV regional quarterfinal in over Cambridge.

* Garfield (Garrettsville) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The G-Men recorded the program’s first playoff win with a 31-21 win over South Range in the D-IV regional quarterfinals.

Week 12 Football Athlete of the Week

* Kolston Brewster, Perry (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Quarterback completed 27-of-46 passes for 557 yards and six touchdowns as the Pirates outlasted Woodridge 42-41 in overtime in a D-III regional semifinal featuring a pair of unbeatens.

Week 12 Football Team of the Week

* Ayersville (Defiance) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Pilots beat Wynford 30-6 in a D-VI regional semifinal to remain unbeaten. Have outscored their first two playoff opponents 79-6.

* Donny Johnson, Patrick Henry (Hamler) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Senior running back carried the ball 21 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns in a 21-19 win over Ayersville in a D-VI regional final.

* Harvest Prep (Canal Winchester) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Warriors beat Waterford 29-14 in D-VII to claim the program’s first regional title. Senior back Daniel Bangura ran for 272 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries to become the first Ohio player to surpass 4,000 yards rushing. His 56 total touchdowns are a state single-season record too.

* Greg Valent, John F. Kennedy Catholic (Warren) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
Quarterback ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in a 48-7 win over Harvest Prep in the D-VII state semifinals.

* Cuyahoga Heights (Cleveland) (FINAL VOTING RESULTS)
The Redskins advanced to the program’s first state final with a 30-14 win over Newark catholic in the D-VI state semifinals. Cuyahoga Heights is the only remaining unbeaten team in Ohio.
