Also went 1-for-1 at the plate with three walks, two runs scored and an RBI. Followed that by coming on in relief in the state final and picking up the win in a 3-2 eight-inning win over Hamilton Badin. Scored two of the Bulldogs three runs, including the game-winner.

*Athena Welsh, St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field (VOTE)

Senior became the second Stark County runner in history to sweep the 1,600 and 3,200 at the state meet when she won both in D-III. It was her third straight 1,600 title and first in the 3,200. *Lucas Kelley, Massillon Perry Track & Field (VOTE)

Senior and Oklahoma recruit won his second D-I state title in the pole vault in three years (was runner-up last year) by clearing 16-8 on his final attempt. The win snapped a five meet postseason losing streak to rival Matt Peare of North Canton Hoover (defending state champ finished fourth). Followed that by entering the state final in the fifth inning and retiring all five batters he faced in a 7-1 win over Waynedale that secured the program’s first state championship.

*Danny Logan, Upper Arlington Lacrosse (VOTE)

Denver recruit and two-time Ohio Midfielder of the Year also named the D-I State Player of the Year by the Ohio HS Lacrosse Association.
