Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Awards

This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, boys tennis, boys & girls track and boys & girls lacrosse.

Each week (regular and postseason) during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive a personalized award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.

How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Tuesday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on the following Monday, after which the winners will be announced.

WEEK 1 SOFTBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

*Sami Fruchey, Bluffton (VOTE)
Threw a complete game shutout with 12 Ks and had two HRs, eight RBI and three runs in a 15-0 win over McComb.

*Mikayla Newland, Paint Valley (VOTE)
Threw a no-hitter and K’d 21 in a 9-0 win over West Union in the opener of a doubleheader. Followed that with a 14K 16-0 five-inning perfect game in Game 2. Also threw a two-hitter and K’d 20 in a 2-0 win over Piketon.

*Madeline Foster, Maysville (VOTE)
Hit two three-run HRs and K’d nine in a 14-2 five-inning win over Morgan.

*Ashley Fite, Tecumseh (VOTE)
Winning pitcher hit a grand slam and had seven RBI in a 15-2 win over Springfield. Through eight games has 20 hits and 21 RBI.

*Lydia Anderson, Mount Notre Dame (VOTE)
Had two HRs and seven RBI in a 16-8 win over Mercy.

*Makira Martin, Akron East (VOTE)
Hit two HRs and was part of a pitching duo that combined to no-hit Buchtel in a 17-0 win.

*Alyssa Windau, Lima Shawnee (VOTE)
Threw a no-hitter and K’d 15 in a 7-0 win over Bellefontaine.

*Ashton Lindner, Roger Bacon (VOTE)
Winning pitcher (K’d nine) and hit two HRs with four RBI in a 10-0 win over Chaminade Julienne.

HONORABLE MENTION

*Alexis Arnold, Monroe
Went 3-for-3 with a HR, triple and six RBI in a 16-0 win over Oakwood.

*Kristen Raterman, Fort Loramie
Threw a five-inning perfect game with eight Ks in a 20-0 win over Botkins.

*Logan McFann, South Charleston Southeastern
K’d 12 and threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Cincinnati Country Day.

*Micalah Hensley, Houston
Had three hits, including a GS, six RBI and four runs in a 26-0 win over Fairlawn.

*Hannah Fricke, West Salem Northwestern
Freshman K’d 15 in a 3-0 shutout win over Norwayne.

WEEK 1 SOFTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

*Strasburg-Franklin (VOTE)
The Tigers beat Norwayne 1-0 to give head coach Bud Weisgarber career win No. 700. He is the only coach in state history to reach 700 wins in softball and is the only coach Strasburg has ever had (started program in 1985).

*Houston (VOTE)
The Wildcats beat Jackson Center 15-4 to earn head coach Brent New career win No. 300 (all at Houston).

*Wadsworth (VOTE)
The Grizzlies beat Stow 1-0 in the season opener to give head coach Mike Schmeltzer career win No. 250.

*Arlington (VOTE)
The Red Devils beat Cory-Rawson 11-1 to earned head coach Gregg Feller career win No. 200.

*Lakota East (VOTE)
The Thunderhawks opened the season 5-0 and outscored the opposition 49-4.

*Badin (VOTE)
The Rams opened the season 9-1 and recorded their fourth straight shutout with a 10-0 win over Fenwick. Have outscored opponents 79-8.

    Milford Eagles varsity Softball Junior Pitcher Valerie Thompson pitched 4 straight, ECC Conference shutout games the week of April 11-15, 2016! Valerie also has been offered and verbally committed to a complete 100% athletic full ride Scholarship to pitch for Division 1 Tenn. State University.
