WEEK 10 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Mykale Rogers, Lima Central Catholic

Senior not only won the D-III long jump for the third straight year, he did so in record-breaking fashion. Rogers’ final leap of his high school career went 24-5.5, which set D-III state and state meet records. Rogers is a Toledo Football recruit. Also rana league on the T-Birds state title winning and state meet record-setting 800 relay (1:27.86).

WEEK 10 BOYS TRACK TEAM OF THE WEEK

*Lima Central Catholic

The T-Birds qualified just four athletes to state, but those four earned the school its first track team title. LCC beat Gilmour Academy 52-42 in the D-III team rankings. The T-Birds set state and/or meet records in the long jump and 800 relay. LCC was runner-up last year in the team standings.

WEEK 10 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Jenna Fesemyer, Ravenna Southeast

Junior won state titles in all four wheelchair events – shot put, 100, 400 and 800.

*McDonald

The Blue Devils won the D-III state title by edging runners-up Tinora and St. Thomas Aquinas 45-44.

*Josh Humbert, Hilliard Darby

Senior set a new meet record in the discus at the Lima Senior Spartan Invitational with a winning throw of 170-7.

*North Union

The Wildcats survived the 12-team field at Ridgedale’s David Schorr memorial Invite by edging Sparta Highland 118-116 in the final team standings.

WEEK 1 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Jenna Shipman, Mount Gilead

Sophomore was awarded the Wes Schertzer award as the meet’s top individual performer at Ridgedale’s Dave Schorr Invitational. Shipman finished first in all four events she ran, including the 3,200 relay, which she anchored.

The Indians won nine events en route to winning the team title at Ridgedale’s David Schorr Memorial Invitational.

WEEK 2 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Nick Demaline, Liberty Center

Senior threw the shot put 62-3.5 at a quad meet with Archbold, Evergreen and Swanton.

The Preppers won the 17-team Beachwood Invitational by outscoring second place Shaker Heights 151-89.

WEEK 2 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Shay LaFollette, Bradford

Senior and Northern Kentucky recruit became the first BHS athlete ever to eclipse 1,000-career points in track when she scored 25 at the Anna Invitational. A three time state qualifier and two time Academic All-Ohio selection, LaFollette currently holds school records in the 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, 1,600 meter relay, single season points and career points.

*Martins Ferry

The Purple Raiders ran away from the 13-team field at the fifth annual Riesbeck’s Martins Ferry Relays by scoring 99 points. That was 44 more than runner-up Steubenville.

WEEK 3 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Drew Lament, Waynesfield-Goshen

Sophomore tied the state’s top mark in the high jump (6-7) in his first meet of the season (quad at Coldwater).

Purple Raiders won the 19-team Shadyside relays by outscoring runner-up Reedsville Eastern 84-69.

WEEK 3 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Edith Svonavec, Garrettsville Garfield

Junior has had a monstrous spring. A week after sweeping the shout put and discus at the Champion and NEO Division III Lew Spence invitationals, Svonavec swept the events again at the Aurora Greenmen and Frank Rossi Valkyrie (Ravenna) invites. Her best throws this spring are 47-6 in the shot (Lew Spence) and 139-5 in the discus (Champion). The 47-6 is Ohio’s top shot mark to date.

*Milan Edison

Chargers won their own 11-team Edison Invitational by outscoring runner-up St. Mary CC 114-99.

WEEK 4 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Ren Boehler, Shane Boehler, Austin Ball and Tyler Long, Tiffin Calvert

Quartet continues to have record-setting spring. Two weeks after setting meet records in the 400 and 800 relays at the Lakota Invitational, the foursome did it again in both events at the Delphos St. John’s Invitational. Calvert won the 400 relay in 43.75 and the 800 relay in 1:31.31.

*GlenOak

The Eagles won the 19-team Stark County Meet team title with a 121-73 victory over runner-up Canton McKinley.

*Stephanie Ferrante, Chardon

Senior continued dominating spring by winning the 100 (12.28), 200 (24.74) and 400 (57.19) at Eastlake North’s Ranger Relays.

The Eagles won the 18-team Stark County Meet team title with a 110-90 victory over runner-up North Canton Hoover.

WEEK 5 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Brad Montgomery, Lehman Catholic

Senior remained unbeaten in both the shot put and discus this spring by winning a meet with Bethel, Kenton Ridge, Miami East and Springfield Northwestern and the New Bremen Cardinal Invitational.

WEEK 5 BOYS TRACK TEAM OF THE WEEK

*Ashland Crestview

Cougars won the 13-team Mapleton Invitational with a 103-87 edge over runner-up New London. Crestview finished fist or second in all four relays and swept the hurdle events.

WEEK 5 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Carris Reese, Lakota

Won the 100 hurdles (16.33), 300 hurdles (48.81) and pole vault (9-0) at the Fostroia Dick Shultz Invitational.

*Toledo Notre Dame

The Eagles won the 21-team Roosevelt Memorial Relays hosted at Welcome Stadium. ND scored 152 points to outdistance runner-up Beaumont, which had 135.

WEEK 6 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Noah Castle, Wauseon

Junior swept the discus (189-1) and shout put (52-0) at Elmwood’s John Ramsey Invitational. His discus mark is a PR and the second best in the state this spring.

*Big Walnut

The Eagles won the Delaware County Elite 8 Championship meet with a 150-138 win over runner-up Olentangy Liberty.

WEEK 6 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Carmen D’€™Ippolito, Grove City

Junior and team captain finished the regular season undefeated in the 100 meters and set a school record in the event with a time of 12.03. Was also part of the school record 400 relay as a freshman. Closing in on school’s 200 meter record as well (26.09).

WEEK 6 GIRLS TRACK TEAM OF THE WEEK

*Fairfield Union

Host Falcons won nine of 17 events en route to wining the 8-team All-Fairfield County Bob Hamm Classic. FU scored 177 points to runner-up Liberty Union’s 109.5. Senior Carly Rose was a big contributor, wining the 800 in a meet record time of 2:24.81. She also won the 1,600, was on the winning 1,600 relay and finished second in the high jump.

WEEK 7 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Stephen Sparks, Lancaster

Senior won the 800, 1,600 and anchored the winning 3.200 relay at the OCC Ohio Division meet. He also placed second (by less than a second) in the 3,200.

*Otsego

Knights may have finished runner-up at the Northern Buckeye Conference meet, but that didn’t stop them from breaking five meet records and having the NBC’s athlete of the year (Cole Gorski).

WEEK 7 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Taylor Thompkins, Canton South

Ran PRs and set new Northern Buckeye Conference records in the 100 (12.18) and 200 (25.59) and also anchored the winning 400 relay at the NBC meet.

*Toledo Christian

The Eagles won their seventh straight Toledo Area Athletic Conference title with a 163-148 win over runner-up Gibsonburg.

WEEK 8 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Michael Kochenderfer, Ashland Crestview

Sophomore broke the school’s pole vault record, which had stood for 38 years, with a vault of 14-0 at the D-III Bucyrus meet.

*Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy

The Royals got revenge for last year’s narrow defeat at the state meet, by beating defending D-II state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 150-122.5 to win the district title at Bedford.

WEEK 8 GIRLS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Breana Hovest, Pandora-Gilboa

Junior set a meet record in the 3,200 (12:02.41) and also won the 1,600 and 3,200 relay at the D-III Liberty-Benton District meet.

*Whitmer

Panthers won the D-I district meet at St. Francis with a narrow 102.90-101.20 win over runner-up Perrysburg. Kaitlyn Barber led the way by winning the pole vault and tying a school record with a leap of 11-6. She also was second in the 400, third in the 200 and on the second place 1,600 relay.

WEEK 9 BOYS TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

*Jared Ballenger, Fremont Ross

Senior swept the shot put and discus at the D-I Amherst Regional meet.

WEEK 9 BOYS TRACK TEAM OF THE WEEK

*Eastwood

The Eagles won their second straight D-II Lexington regional team championship with a 61-44 win over runner-up River Valley. Eastwood set three school records (400 and 1,600 relays and 300 hurdles) in the process.

*Meredith Fennell, Canal Fulton Northwest

Senior won three events – 100 hurdles, long jump and 400 relay – at the D-II Austintown Regional meet.

The Lady Knights dominated the D-II Muskingum Regional meet en route to winning the etitle 98-55 over Indian Valley. The 400 and 800 relay teams set school records.
