Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 10 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Jai’Lyn Mosley, McDonald (VOTE)
Senior swept the D-III state championships in the discus and shot put. Her winning discus throw of 157-5 tied her own school record. Her winning shot put toss of 42-11.75 was less than inch from breaking her older sister Joh’Vonnie’s school record.
*Irene Skinner, Pickerington Central (VOTE)
Ran a leg on three state championship winning relay (400, 800 and 1,600) teams for the Tigers.
*Jocselyn Powell, Canal Winchester (VOTE)
Won the D-I 100 and 300 hurdle state championships.
*Sade Olatoye, Dublin Coffman (VOTE)
Won the D-I discus and shot put state championships.
*Tyler Williams, Pickerington Central (VOTE)
Won the 400 and was a part of two winning relays (800 and 1,600) at the D-I state meet.
*Oksana Lawrence, Dayton Meadowdale (VOTE)
Senior and LSU recruit won three events at the D-II state meet en route to helping the Lions win the state title. She defended her 400 title and anchored the winning 800 and 1,600 relays.
*Allyson Simmons, Fairless (VOTE)
Senior and Ohio State T&F recruit set an all-divisions record in the pole vault by defending her D-II state title with a vault of 13-4.25.
*Jenna Fesemyer, Ravenna Southeast (VOTE)
Junior won state titles in all four wheelchair events – shot put, 100, 400 and 800.
*Athena Welsh, St. Thomas Aquinas (VOTE)
Sophomore set a school record in the 1,600 en route to winning the state title in the event at the D-III state meet. She also was one the first place 3,200 relay and finished second in the 3,200 as Aquinas finished runner-up in the team standings (by a point).
*Hannah Campbell, River Valley (VOTE)
After finishing second in the 3,200 the last two years, senior finally finished first by setting a D-II state meet record in the event with a time of 10:40.66. That mark was also a PR and 23 seconds better than the second place finisher.
*Jackie Seifring, Covington (VOTE)
Senior won long jump and 300 hurdle state titles at the D-III state meet. She also finished third in the 100 hurdles.
*Brittany Atkinson, Liberty Center (VOTE)
Junior and two-time cross country state champion added her first T&F state championship with a 20-second victory and PR in the 3,200 (10:53.48) at the D-III state meet.
*Michaela Butler, Liberty-Benton (VOTE)
Sophomore defended her D-II 200 state title and added a state championship in the 100 at the state meet.
WEEK 10 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Dayton Meadowdale (VOTE)
The Lions won their first state title by scoring 40 points to best Akron SVSM, West Holmes and Orrville (all tied with 25 points) at the D-II state meet.
The Comets defended their D-I state title with a one-point win over Pickerington Central. Solon eked out a 47-46 victory.
The Blue Devils won the D-III state title by edging runners-up Tinora and St. Thomas Aquinas 45-44.
