Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 9 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Meg Westerheide, Fort Loramie (VOTE)
Senior qualified for the state meet for the fourth time when she won the 800 at the D-III Troy Regional meet. Westerhiede also ran on the Redskins fourth place 800 and 1,600 relays. The Loramie senior has now appeared in four state cross country meets, two state basketball tournaments and four state track meets.
*Meredith Fennell, Canal Fulton Northwest (VOTE)
Senior won three events – 100 hurdles, long jump and 400 relay – at the D-II Austintown Regional meet.
*Allyson Simmons, Fairless (VOTE)
Senior and defending state champion set the D-II state record in the pole vault by clearing 13-1.25 en route to winning the event at the D-II Austintown Regional meet. The previous mark of 13-1 (set by Bryan’s Alyssa McBride) had stood since 2002. The vault also set regional, stadium and Stark County records.
*Courtney Clody, Perrysburg (VOTE)
Senior won the 800 and 1,600 and ran a leg on the winning 3,200 relay at the D-I Amherst Regional meet. She also ran a leg on the Yellow Jackets runner-up 1,600 relay.
*Carly Woodruff, Taylor Yerian, Kennedy Smith and Paiten Strother, West Holmes (VOTE)
The fearsome foursome set school records in the 400 (49.89) and 800 (1:44.15) relays en route tot winning both events at the D-II Muskingum Regional meet.
*Sammy Bockoven, CVCA (VOTE)
Junior swept the 800 and 1,600 at the D-II Austintown Regional meet. She also ran on the third place 1,600 relay.
WEEK 9 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*St. Thomas Aquinas (VOTE)
The Knights won the D-III regional title in the meet’s last event as Molly Pusateri edged McDonald’s Joya Humphries at the line in the 1,600 relay to give Aquinas a 78.33-76 over McDonald.
*West Holmes (VOTE)
The Lady Knights dominated the D-II Muskingum Regional meet en route to winning the etitle 98-55 over Indian Valley. The 400 and 800 relay teams set school records.
The Red Riders won the D-II regional title at Lexington with a 63-55 victory over Liberty-Benton. Oak Harbor (32) was a distant third.
*Akron SVSM (VOTE)
The Irish won their fourth straight D-II Austintown Regional meet title with a 53-43 win over runner-up Girard. Beaumont (41) was third.
The Comets won their third straight D-I Austintown Regional title with a 81-60.5 edge over runner-up Warren Harding.
The Lions needed to beat Versailles in the final event to win the D-II Dayton Regional meet and did just that. By virtue of its victory over Versailles, which finished second in the relay too, the Lions edged the Tigers 45-44 for the regional title. Wauseon was third with 43 points. Kenton Ridge and Ottawa-Glandorf each scored 42.
