Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 8 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Madi McCrady, Walsh Jesuit (VOTE)
Freshman had a monster game in the Warriors 15-0 North Coast League win over Padua Franciscan. McCrady hit two HRs and had eight RBIs. She also pitched a complete-game and K’d nine. McCrady also hit a HR in the Warriors 5-0 win over Medina in the D-I district finals.
*Tara Trainer, Lebanon (VOTE)
K’d 20 and allowed one-hit in a 3-0 win over Cincinnati Ursuline in a D-I district final.
*Tori Harr, Portsmouth Notre Dame (VOTE)
Threw back-to-back shutouts in the district semifinals (Symmes Valley) and finals (Reedsville Eastern). Her win over Symmes Valley was also a no-hitter.
*Marissa Conrad, Minster (VOTE)
Had four hits and three RBIs in a 6-5 win over Convoy Crestview in a D-IV district final.
*Chelsea McManaway, Wellston (VOTE)
K’d 19 and allowed four-hits in a 3-0 complete-game shutout win over Lucasville Valley in a D-III district final.
*Emily McKillip, Springfield Shawnee (VOTE)
Senior threw her fourth straight shutout and 10th of the year as the Braves beat Valley View 12-0 in five innings in a D-II district final. McKillip K’d 10 and has 222 KS on the year.
*Kirsten Lightel, Tallmadge (VOTE)
K’d 19 in a 1-0 win over CVCA in the D-I sectionals. Also pitched shout wins over Revere (1-0) and Beaumont (6-0) in the district semis and final, respectively.
*Kelly Hysong, Fairless (VOTE)
Junior pitcher threw her third no-hitter of the season in a 3-0 win over Akron Manchester that wrapped up the Principals’ Athletic Conference title. Hysong ends the season with 262 Ks this spring.
*Abbie Sgro, Lexington (VOTE)
Junior pitcher surpassed 300 Ks for the season when she struck out 18 in a 2-0 complete game shutout win over Orrville.
*Miranda Benschoter, Elmwood (VOTE)
Junior led off the sixth inning with a triple that would eventually become the winning run in a 1-0 win over Archbold in a D-III district final. Was also the winning pitcher, firing a complete-game three-hit shutout.
WEEK 8 SOFTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
The Orangmen won their 14th straight Akron City Series title with a 13-0 win over Fiirestone. Junior pitcher Autumn Smith improved to 3-0 in City Series championship games.
*Springfield Northwestern (VOTE)
The Warriors ended Greenville’s string of sectional titles at 10 straight with a 6-2 victory in D-II. Coming into the game, Greenville head coach Jarod Newland’s teams were 30-0 in sectional games. Northwestern went on to win the district title with a 11-2 win over Wilmington.
The Wildcats won their first district title in 10 years and just second overall with a 2-1 win over Hamilton Ross in a D-II final. Ross beat Franklin in last year’s District final.
The Indians won their first district title since 2008 with a 7-2 win over Lakota East in a D-I final.
The Eagles won their third D-I district title in six years with a 17-4 victory over Whitmer.
The Bulldogs met rival Canfield in the D-II district finals for the seventh straight season and won the latest chapter 7-6.
Pirate batters reached base 20 of the 36 times they came to bat in a 9-4 win over Zane Trace in the D-III district finals.
*Lima Bath (VOTE)
The Wildkittens won their second straight D-II district title with an 8-0 shutout over Lima Shawnee. Senior pitcher Kimmy Reynolds allowed just three hits.
The Royals avenged a 4-2 regualr season loss to Archbold by beating the Blue Streaks 1-0 in a D-III district final.
The Titans won the program’s first district title and a single-season record 20th game with a 6-4 nine-inning win over Fairview in a D-III district final.
