Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 6 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Kasey Adelsperger, Mohawk (VOTE)
Threw a no-hitter and hit two HRs (with six RBIS) in an 18-0 win over Ridgemont that provided head coach Jenny Weinandy with career win No. 300. Also tossed a one-hit shutout and went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and four RBIs in a 21-0 win over Calvert. Threw a three-hit shutout, hit a HR and drove in five in a 7-0 win over Mansfield Christian.
*Hannah Howery, Albany Alexander (VOTE)
Went 2-for-4 with two HRs and four RBIs in an 11-7 win over Athens. The next day she went 2-for-4 again with a HR (her ninth of the season) and four RBIs in a 10-2 win over Vincent Warren.
*Kelly Hysong, Fairless (VOTE)
Had a huge week that started with a pair of wins over CVCA. In Game 1, Hysong K’d 15 in a two-hit 7-0 shutout. In the rematch the next day she K’d 15 again and allowed one hit in a 1-0 win. Her sac fly in the sixth scored the lone run. Followed that by hitting two HRs and throwing a no-hitter (with 13 Ks) in a 10-0 win over Dover.
*Tori Harr, Portsmouth Notre Dame (VOTE)
Threw a five-inning no-hitter and K’d 11 in a 20-0 win over Sciotoville East. Also went 3-for-4 and didn’t allow a walk.
*Rachel Poling and Dani Austinson, Avon (VOTE)
Combined to throw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Hathaway Brown. Poling threw four innings and Austinson three. They struck out 10.
*Racquel Ward, Ashland (VOTE)
K’d nine and allowed four hits in a 4-2 win over Mansfield Madison that clinched the OHC title. Also hit a HR during the Arrows four-run fourth.
*Addison Horne, Plymouth (VOTE)
Threw a five-inning no-hitter and K’d 10 in a 16-0 win over South Central.
*Taran Alvelo, Bloom-Carroll (VOTE)
Junior and University of Washington recruit threw back-to-back five-inning no-hitters in wins over Amanda-Clearcreek (16-0-) and Hamilton Township (10-0). Agaisnt A-C, Alvelo K’d 13 and went 3-for-3. Against HT, she had two hits and three RBIs. She also hit a three-run HR and allowed one-hit with 12 Ks in a 12-0 five-inning win over Logan Elm.
*Cathy Holstein, Millersport (VOTE)
Threw a five-inning no-hitter, K’d 12 and walked none in a 16-0 win over Harvest Prep. Also went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and was the winning pitcher in a 16-4 win over Fairfield Christian that locked up an outright MSL Cardinal Division title.
*Taylor Rossman, Bucyrus (VOTE)
Struck out 15 and allowed three-hits in a 2-1 win over Upper Sandusky. K’d 14 and allowed four hits in a 4-0 win over Buckeye Central.
*Jessie Madzia, Tuslaw (VOTE)
Pitched a five-inning perfect game in a 15-0 win over Tuscarawas Valley and also had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
*Meredith Chopka, Cuyahoga Heights (VOTE)
Threw a no-hitter and K’d seven in a 12-0 win over West Geauga.
*Payton Kuenzli, Ontario (VOTE)
Threw a perfect game and K’d 14 in a six-inning 10-0 win over Tiffin Columbian.
*Hannah Absalom, Bellaire St. John Central (VOTE)
K’d 16 in a complete game 4-0 shutout win over Bellaire. A day prior came on in relief and K’d 12 of the 13 batters she faced in a 5-4 loss to Toronto.
*Kristin Confroy, Solon (VOTE)
Senior smacked two HRs and had seven RBIs in a 15-8 loss to Perry.
*Rachel Eberling, Minerva (VOTE)
Threw a perfect game and K’d 12 in a five-inning 14-0 win over Marlington.
WEEK 6 SOFTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Arrows wrapped up the OHC title with a 4-2 win over Mansfield Madison.
The Lakers won the outright MSL Cardinal Division title with a 16-4 five-inning win over Fairfield Christian. Winning pitcher Cassie Holstein was 4-for-4 and scored four runs.
*New Riegel (VOTE)
The Blue Jackets provided head coach Jamie Lininger career win No. 200 in his 11th season at the school with an 11-1 victory over Seneca East.
The Rockets won their second straight Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division title and ran their league win streak to 20 with a 2-0 win over Albany Alexander. The win was also the last TVC victory for head coach Rick Perdue who is retiring after 16 seasons and six TVC titles.
*Cincinnati Ursuline (VOTE)
The Lions defended their GGCL title by beating league foes St. Ursula, McAuley and Mount Notre Dame a combined 25-1 last week.
*Columbus Grove (VOTE)
The Bulldogs snapped Continental’s six-year stranglehold on the Putnam County League title by dethroning the champs with a 12-3 win. CG won the PCL championship with a 6-0 record.
*Albany Alexander (VOTE)
The Spartans threw back-to-back no-hitters in sweeping a doubleheader with Nelsonville-York. In Game 1, Kendall Meeks K’d nine in a five-inning 13-0 win. In Game 2, Nicole Hudnall K’d four in an 18-0 win. She also hit a HR, triple and had three RBIs.
*Licking Valley (VOTE)
Secured at least a share of the Licking Valley League title by belting four HRs in a 16-0 win over Utica. Lori Caughenbaugh hit for the cycle, while winning pitcher Shelby McCombs K’d eight and allowed one-hit. McCombs also had three hits including two HRs.
