Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 6 BOYS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Colt Roth, Liberty Union (VOTE)
Won the 100, 200 and 400 and was a part of the meet record 400 relay team at the All-Fairfield County Bob Hamm Classic.
*Logan Bryer, Genoa (VOTE)
Senior swept the discus (170-4) and shot put (57-1.5) at the Ottawa County Meet.
*Jaylon Brown, St. Clairsville (VOTE)
Senior and Youngstown State football recruit won the 100 (10.81), 200 (22.24) and long jump at the Cal Giffin OVAC Track Meet.
*John Maurins, Mentor (VOTE)
Set PRs in both the shot put and discus en route to winning both with heaves of 67-4.25 and 162-11, respectively, at the Euclid Relays. Maurins shot put mark is the best in the state (by over four inches) to date.
*Max Spiepel, Avon Lake (VOTE)
Swept the shot put (55-2) and discus (163-2) at the Perkins Jim Hauser Pirate Relays.
*Matt Ludwig, Mentor Lake Catholic (VOTE)
Junior set PRs in the pole vault (15-0) and 300 hurdles (39.02) en route to winning both events at the North Coast League championships. Also finished second in the long jump (20-3.75).
*Noah Castle, Wauseon (VOTE)
Junior swept the discus (189-1) and shout put (52-0) at Elmwood’s John Ramsey Invitational. His discus mark is a PR and the second best in the state this spring.
*Dominic Lombardi, Watterson (VOTE)
Senior set a PR in the 110 hurdles (14.44) and also won the 300 hurdles (38.31) at Upper Arlington’s Larkin/Crosten Invitational.
WEEK 6 BOYS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Liberty Union (VOTE)
Lions won the eight-team All-Fairfield County Bob Hamm Classic by wining eight (of 17) events and setting records in two. Liberty Union, which outscored runner-up Berne Union 172-104, set records in the 400 relay (44.32) and high jump (6-3).
The Warriors won their own 13-team Warrior Relays with an 87-78 victory over runner-up St. Charles.
Redskins won their first ever OVAC 2A team title.
Rockets won the 14-team Covington Invitational with a 148-92.5 win over the host Buccs. Anna swept all four and set a new meet record in the 3,200 relay (8:11.95). The Rockets also set a new meet record in the pole vault (Logan Konst cleared 14-7).
The Pirates won the 15-team Ada Invitaional with a 111-86 victory over runner-up Lima Central Catholic. Bluffton won eight events, including three relays.
*Jefferson Area (VOTE)
The Falcons won the Ashtabula County Meet with a 124-107 victory over runner-up Edgewood.
Comets won their own 23-team Rod Russel Invitational by outscoring runner-up Northmont 92.50-81.
*Big Walnut (VOTE)
The Eagles won the Delaware County Elite 8 Championship meet with a 150-138 win over runner-up Olentangy Liberty.
*Mentor Lake Catholic (VOTE)
The Cougars won the North Coast League Blue Division title with a 150.50-147 victory over runner-up Walsh Jesuit.
The Golden Gales continue to win meets. The latest was Upper Arlington’s Larkin/Crosten Classic where they scored a 155-123 win over rival Pickerington Central.
